Well fortunately it IS amazing to me and many other's! That's why it continuous to receive so much support in the first place I guess.

I have no problems with delays, Star Marine, or any of the issues mentioned above because I understand that's part of the trade. Meanwhile watching the game accused of being "a scam" , "ponzi-squeme" , "farce" is showing disrespect not just to current backers but fellow staff members that actually take the trouble of answering questions here and elevate the thread for the people that are truly interested in the game.

It's just my opinion and my opinion alone, and I think I'm free to say that Ben Parry is the only one posting info pertinent to me because I follow the project very closely and only people inside CIG can explain more and better than what I know already.

Yes, you are quite right:

scam + ponzi scheme + farce = Star Citizen

Yeah, that one went straight out the window even before they hit $20m

I'm sure it is Viajero, but I still refuse to accept the new TOS so don't go anywhere near the CIG website anymore. I'm sure that clause would never hold up in court, but honestly, considering what an echo chamber it's become, I don't miss it a bit.

The website is not affected by the ToS. As long as you don't login to your account - and agree to the latest ToS version - you're OK.

*Mod hat off

You can still click safely on my link above, as long as you dont log in I think. :p

If you have the patience to follow the thread you ll find the story it tells interesting, trust me.

Pretty depressing thread Viajero, not because of what you were trying to do (good on you for the attempt) but because so many seemed to completely miss the point. I know the pledge was one of the main factors for my decision to back, along with how well Wingman and Designopotomus at least tried to actually answer questions on WMH. Unlike the AtV/RtV "infomercials".

Thanks Derek, had already deleted SC from my HD, forgot I could delete specific login/passwords in my browser as well.

Those two were a big reason I followed development closely in 2013 and the hangar module released on time was why I spent more money. I think those guys knew what they were doing and when they left it was the first time I raised an eyebrow. I mean they've done a pretty good job building an updated Decent game. Unfortunately I hated decent back in the day and still do. It's not my cup of tea, but they released something within months of their kickstarter and their game is on steam where it can be reviewed. So they have to deal with criticisms, valid or not, and don't get to reside in their own safe space echo chamber. I should subscribe to their members area as I do still watch Wingman's Hangar a couple times a month and actually hear them discuss what is going on and show what they are working on. One of their first showed they had an office tour. At everyone's computer was a gamepad and an Extreme 3D Joystick. If they were making a game that will work with the cheapest joystick on the market it will work with more expensive stuff.

Last week Wingman was stuck in traffic. Know what their community manager did while they were waiting: fired up the game and invited community members to come join him. Before long there was a designopotomus playing as well. Followed by another member of the dev team.

They got it. The people working there today don't.

Yep, couldn't agree more. I backed Eric when he did his kickstarter. Same as you, never really cared for Decent but had a lot of respect for him and Rob so wanted to support them. And boy, the development of their game from a community info point of view highlights all the places that CIG is lacking. Sure, it's a completely different scope, but that's not the point. The fact that they clearly let people know when an issue arises, not after two or three months of silence but when they run into it, as they did recently, identifies to me exactly what CIG lost when they left, and what CIG has been missing for at least 2.5 years.

lol oops.

Hi Sandi !!

I thought it was clear that I was referring to Ben Parry, ex-Frontier Developer and fellow game dev and friend of many Frontier dev's that also read this thread. I dunno where this obsession for the VP or Marketing of Star Citizen comes from but as many already pointed out, Star Citizen as had a very good Marketing strategy and what they keep doing is nothing short of amazing. So congratulations to Sandi for being another CIG staff excelling at their job, making games is not just about Developers, Designers, Concept Artists, Engineers etc. The other unsung heroes deserve their praise also. So thanks all for making the Dream possible.

Hey, welcome to the Elite Dangerous forums! Happy forth of July join date. I guess you're here purely for this one thread on star citizen and nothing else.
Yes, it IS indeed amazing how Croberts and dogs continue to reap in cash from their marks despite all the obvious signs that SC has now become a con job. Amazing! They really have a giant collective pair, don't they? Now they've collected over 116 million (or so they say) they close off any chance they can of having to actually be accountable for that money. Lots to be amazed about here, from the gall of such openly disrespectful and shady behaviour towards the original backers all the way to the extraordinary gullibility of those who continue to fund this terrible running joke. Are you a grey market trader, out of curiosity? Or just a Reddit warrior come to do your tour of duty here on the "frontier"?

Thanks for the warm welcome, I'm here because of Ben Parry mostly, If you think Star Citizen is a con job, which is a kinda offensive and severe accusation, its up to you, to each it's own I'm not here to convince anyone.
I mostly browse the official forums, follow game dev twitters and scavenge for info, also google and discord mostly, reddit format is a confusing mess to me, but that might me being a noob. I've pledge about 200€ so far since I bought my starters package late 2013 and I have no intention to sell it on the greymarket or by any other mean.

Well fortunately it IS amazing to me and many other's! That's why it continuous to receive so much support in the first place I guess.

My discomfort with it all is why do people still feel the need to financially support SC with pledges/donation when it was fully funded at $65,000,000
There seems to be two main threads of "The more we donate the better the game will be" and "if we don't support the concept sales there wont be new ships concepted" but if it is true that the game was fully funded for all stretch goals at $65 Million and there are no more stretch goals, neither assertion is correct.

If Pledging is solely about raising the money to develop the game, that goal was achieved long ago.
Why the need to have a stretch goal for the Caterpillar to be in game, then after that stretch goal is reached a concept sale for the caterpillar later after all goals have been reached.

It is never enumerated what all this additional donation sums are needed for.

After all they are pledge drives, asking for donations.
You don't ask for donations if you don't have a need.

one of my little quick and dirty points, I don't keep record of what was said, however I do have an excellent memory. I'm sure if needed DS can dig it up somewhere.
However CIG Developer said, at some point that their PG tech is far ahead of anything we know today, it will leave the competitors in the dust clouds...and now we are talking about clouds,
CIG I expect to see something that beat this by several lengths.

Enjoy and I'm waiting to be amazed.

There is no doubt that is very pretty. I'd love to see something of that quality come out of CIG but given the scope of the game I doubt it will be possible. Also it should be noted for clarification that the video is a combination of a flight sim with separate cloud and weather add-in packs created by third party developers. The flight sim is either Microsoft Flight Simulator or a derivative developed by Lockhead Martin. MS Flight Sim has been around since 1982 in one form or another so they've had a long time to get it looking that good.

nope*, they said, and I quote from memory "our tech is better than anything you have seen anywhere today" (quoted from memory).

No excuses, please deliver or stop with these ridiculous claims!

* it was developed in 2 years

Star Citizen.... realistic.... Does not compute....

LMAO, are you kidding me? SC realistic!? C'mon its not even close in anything to be realistic
biggrin.png

Oi! What I meant was they want it to be realistic in how many warm bodies it takes to run a large ship! Like a carrier will probably takes anywhere from 50-100 people to just make it barely function. The sass in this place is astounding. I love it here :D.

Since CIG has $50m to spare now that the game has been fully funded since whenever, I'm sure the developers would be happy to license to them. If it can be added on to a venerable flight sim, I'm sure some magic Germans could bolt it onto CryEngine.
