There won't be any Storage in this update

Thanks God they removed that commodity requirement. Felt strange they needed 1 ton of some stuff to engineer 400 kg weapon.

Ed acknowledged our complaints on carrying the damn engineers' materials around - blocking the cargo space and being "big haul" magnet.

They came up with an elegant solution: from this patch on, all you'll need for upgrades will be data & micromaterials. No more Magnetic Emitter Coils and other stuff (which you can buy on the markers anyway). So you can sell / eject all this nonsense if it block your playing and wait a week or two for the patch.

This is excellent news for those of us in smaller ships - in the Vulture, for example, the commodities requirement essentially made it impossible to upgrade some modules like HRPs because you need a big enough cargo hold instead.

I am open-minded about the removal of commodities. They were a time-sink to progress and maybe, maybe, taken too far to become a hindrance to experiencing Engineering content.

I am however concerned that entirely removing that timesink relegates Engineering to being yet another 'shallow-pool' lacking depth mechanic -- that everyone will breeze through -- and soon be sporting top-end stuff. It strikes me these changes might make Elite: Dangerous like some other MMO's -- where the player base consumes new content quicker than it can be created -- burning out players and burning out Frontier Developers.

There is a time for blazing your own trail. There is a time for meandering along and smelling the roses.

Just so you know that sheet just showed the material changes to the blueprints. You'll still need commodities for rank 2 and above, they just weren't included in that sheet because that hasn't changed.

To be clear:

We haven't removed commodities!

Please don't sell all your hard earned commodities...

Have you guys thought about disabling them until you get storage in?

Are you kidding right? So basically everything will stay <Ahem> like now...... This is absolutely incredible.....
Think many people will definitively quit after knowing that...

So when we will be able to store commodities and modules? I have reached my limits with materials, modules and commodities. I am flying an Anaconda right now. I bought it just for this reason.

Ohhh, salt provider :)

Seriously, so much hurt about commodities. I think they are fine addition, just need balancing and not so many missions spawning them as rewards.

Oi! :)

Commodites aren't the problem.

The problem has always been this:

1) Having to cart Engineer-required commodities around with you whilst you're looking for other required materials.

2) Not implementing some kind of commodity storage so you don't have to cart these commodities all over the galaxy

Point (2) is rather kind of important.

Seriously.... First this is going to change the appreciation of the game.... 2nd, you release a spread     that is not complete.... I have no words.... Do you guys realzie that this game is not a MMORPG but a simulator, people want to fly ship and fight trade wathever and not grinding stupid commodities around the galaxy.... Also with no possibilities to store the materials gathered or the modules.
I dont get it.... Plz let Braben to talk....

You missed number 3.

While carrying engineer commodities you become a magnet for every NPC pirate in the game who magically knows you are carrying 4 tons of whatever.

We can only speculate that NPCs are also desperate to get their ships upgraded and have resorted to attacking innocent players in order to get those commodities. My guess is, they don't know we have engineer materials, but they are so desparate to get them, they attack players and pray to the RNG that we will be carrying what they need.

Presumably we can expect some sort of Storage with the next update in that case???

So I gather you guys are working on commodity storage then?

As it stands we have no choice but to sell or dump things that take us hours if not days/weeks to collect to engage engineer game play. So Blaze Your Own Trail is nothing more than a dream now.

There are so many players stuck in their large ships due to this design floor. I miss the days when I could swap ships and play the way I want.

And no, I refuse to throw anything away since these commodities take too long to collect.
