UAs, Barnacles and other mysteries Thread 8 - The Canonn

Random thoughts from the last night. Less than minute before sleeping.
- Merope (the star) as a portal to be activated.
- Toxic Cargo Corrosion to FSD while jumping away to cause jump error.

ignoring all that, I put the bold mark between 4 very specific words: in the source code.

it is easy, either you elaborate what source code means for you, you chose your words appropriately to avoid misleading and you stop talking about file peeking -and what is more important- using it to argument something.

Read his original statement again, this time pay attention to the word I have highlighted in bold.

http://wiki.alioth.net/index.php/Legends_of_Elite#Worm_holes

Supposedly, there is a wormhole at the centre of the galaxy in Frontier
This rumour has been affirmed by David Braben, but no evidence has been found in the source code

I however cant find the link where he actually said this but i have seen it

This game is not Frontier so no need to be concerned about someone looking at it's source code.

Probably nothing, but I just did a quick edit and rotated everything around the circle by about 50 degrees. Interestingly enough, that line points right to the arc that was compared to the Pleiades.

So I'm home sick full of mucus and bacteria, so I've taken a moment to write the idiot's guide to UA/UP/Meta-Alloys etc.

I get it. Everyone should read the front page first. But has anyone who says that actually *read* the front page recently? Not dissing Rizal's work maintaining it, but that thing is massive, so I can understand why people skip it.

Things to note about this guide:
- The FAQ is especially written in my usual cynical tongue. If you take nothing out of it, take this: You need a thick skin. If you can't handle the FAQ of my idiots guide, you definitely won't handle the main thread. Nobody is out to get you, but speaking from experience, there's only so many times I can tell the full story of how the morse was discovered before I throw kittens off balconies.
- This contains almost no speculation, no matter how much potential it has. The one exception is a comment about the Barnacle symbol looking like Barnard's Loop. Everything else is proven fact.
- I don't reference anything. Again, this is the idiot's guide, I've tried to keep it to only solid fact in order to cut this down to a minimum of things you can safely assume to be true.
- The FAQ focuses mostly on bringing suggestions here. It might be a bit cutting, but is only my opinion. If you vehemently disagree with what I've said, fill your boots and post away here. Again, thick skin. But reading 8 threads worth of this stuff has shown all the comments to be true at some point, but I'm not here to tell anyone what to do, just gently suggest.
- I don't categorically list things that have been disproven/proven to only be speculation. That's what the front thread is for.

Just my 40c while I cough up a lung to try and lessen noise.

Yes. I am exploring with one.

Where/how far are you taking it? I know some permit-locked regions have been tried already, but I'd be interested in knowing if anyone's tried the Hyponia region. Not that I have a theory which suggests it as a reasonable guess, I'm just curious. Apologies if you've already mentioned this. I was doing quite well at reading every page, but slacked off a day or two and had to skip about a hundred pages to catch back up.

Hi guys, I've updated the announcement page on our site with an embed of the final video uploaded by Ed. If you missed it you can watch it there http://canonn.science/2016/08/04/canonn-educates-ed-again-4th-aug-2016/

Or you can just press play below, of course!

https://youtu.be/zCpAKlk0IKo

Many congratulations to all involved!

Nice show, folks. o7
And thank you for abusing Ed to do more science - great call :D
I hope you made some great recordings there, NetSlayer. Very glad to hear you could attend and record. You weren't nervous bud, you sounded like your usual self. :)

Ed learning to Honk : https://youtu.be/zCpAKlk0IKo?t=38m30s
Teaser re. GamesCon 2016 and secrets which won't be showed : https://youtu.be/zCpAKlk0IKo?t=39m40s

UP honk SPF-LP 1 1 : https://youtu.be/zCpAKlk0IKo?t=48m55s

I'm glad that Ed opted out from giving any suggestion to "what to do next", it would have probably been given way too much attention.
So thanks - good call. https://youtu.be/zCpAKlk0IKo?t=58m36s

Dr. Arcannon pays a visit : https://youtu.be/zCpAKlk0IKo?t=1h1m48s
Lady Outspan & Delmonte. I think Ed missed the fact that the Canonn name is derived from Dr. Arcanonn.
Hehe, you can hear him comment the strange way Canonn is spelled a bit later in the stream. ^^

Honking a single UP at Earth (twice) : https://youtu.be/zCpAKlk0IKo?t=1h16m41s
NetSlayer, in external you were moved. You said yourself you didnt see a move. I've seen this in game previously, some actions are not synced across the client. Bug or lack of feature.

UP dying: https://youtu.be/zCpAKlk0IKo?t=1h19m50s

"Dual UP" honking : https://youtu.be/zCpAKlk0IKo?t=1h29m40s
Active killing of a UP : https://youtu.be/zCpAKlk0IKo?t=1h31m45s

Oh btw - Ed is FIRED. Improper position to record audio & visuals while covering his head while honking for science.
On the other hand, RE-HIRE that man because he can magically spawn Sol permits and SIX UPs :D

Ok, so I think Ed dropped a hint in the (well, more than one) live stream that people may have missed (forgive me if it's been discussed). This relates to something I saw 4 days ago whilst I was roving around on the surface of Merope 5c, but I have absolutely no evidence from my end as I was honestly just driving about in VR. Ok, so here goes:

Approximately 4 days ago, as mentioned, I was driving around in my SRV on the surface of Merope 5c and I was looking at the stars in my HTC Vive to see if I could see any patterns or something, so I looked at my HUD and my hull percentage was at 36%. This was rather odd as I hadn't taken any damage at all whilst driving. So, naturally, my body decided to expel the brown stuff and I immediately recalled my ship. Whilst I was waiting for it, I noticed that on my Radar there was a sparkling effect around the image of my SRV. I've never seen it before so I moved quite rapidly, forwards...well, the sparkling stopped. Odd stuff. So I moved back to where I was and it reappeared (but the damage to my hull never changed).

Anyway, on to why I post this now. In the live stream video at 1:06:55 there is a shot of the probe with Earth directly behind it and there is a sparkling effect exactly like what I saw on my radar. Ed says "Look at that sparkling, it kind of makes it look like sparkling lights on the Earth's surface, like it's interrupting things or something". I'm wondering if it's related in some way.

Hopefully someone reads this and can test it in some way. I'm nowhere near Merope anymore as I decided to do some long range trading to get a bit of cash :p Whatever the result, thanks for reading!

Best of luck Commanders,
Kultir

It's that kind of speculation I hope I would not see after his stream.
Not that it there isn't anything to it, but a frantic debate on who said what and what they really meant by it is sort of the stuff I would like to avoid seeing in here.

"Solid ... facts".

As you said yourself, perhaps you can device a test and build on that instead.

BRILLIAINT: I think you comment has unlocked in my mind something that has had me stuck on Merope 5C for 1/2 a day (which is 3 days our time) This might unlock part of the puzzle for me. ta muchly.

Out of interest, how/why does Ed have six UPs and UAs that are illegal but not stolen? I want to assume "dev handwavium" for the show...

I wonder if this could be related to some of the crash site messages, where survivors have mentioned "lights" that have some kind of intelligence to their movements?

I love your guide. Probably because I'm an idiot.

It should go on the front page.:D

But that's just the regular UP / UA sparkling effect, right? I can't see anything on his HUD that's sparkling.

The one thing the guide lacks is at what elevation the green on the radar/lidar shows up.

Of Educating Ed
... I dearly wish this was the norm of gaming. I love how he was conscious of not ruining things for people 'experience' of the game. Really respectable, that.

Shooting a UP...
I'm sure it has been done before, but... well... this time it was a representative electorate. Who is working on the 'we're sorry' message again?
