You know what would go a loooong way Frontier?

Planets with atmosphere. Perhaps not with dense vegetation and/or dense population yet, but some basic plant life, oceans, volcanic activity, that sorta thing. Would go a long way towards keeping the progress train moving.

I agree. Basic, and I mean basic, ecosystems would be brilliant right now.

i will now predict the Gamescon announcement

we are PLANNING
planetary vegetation
interactive Npc`s
more ships
more content
more stations

but for now heres a cupholder for your ship

available in the FD store for a measly £5.99

yeah, I'm totally hyped. Saying that, Gamescom is make or break for Elite as far as me playing it goes. Either they announce something amazing (and soon) or I'm off. I'm the most patient person in the world (universe), but the mick has most definitely been taken

I feel ya, same here... Flop after flop I am tired of this negative enviroment, namecalling because I like open and PVP, broken code base, connection design flaws, underdeveloped gameplay and half baked addons that only break the core.

There was few good ideas along the way, but FD showed time and time again they can't deliver, and won't bother fixing what's already broken.

Clearly your idea of patience and mine are vastly different, what do you consider 'amazing' in regards to an announcement?

Exactly.
FD might show us something about passenger missions, or the new passenger ships, but they are not going to show us something they are working on for next year's releases. FD has never done that.

Basically we know what they are working on for the next few updates.
So it is likely they will show us something concerning 2.2.
It won't be very spectacular, because for the most part we already know what it is going to be.

I hope they will add at least one new SRV type. I would like a glimpse of that. That would be something many of us would love.
Or... if they could show us something concerning volcanism.... I would love that.

I hope they announce something dull, but that is actually well implemented.

(Rather than something amazing - which turns out to be yet another cardboard thick grind-fest.)

I would also like them to announce the withdrawal of PowerPants, which has never worked, was ill conceived, and is a waste of effort for all concerned. Pay off the disappointed players if necessary..

I'd like a little cup to weep into.

I hope they do show some of season 3, like they did last year. But I will be happy with some news of 2.2, 2.3 and 2.4 to be honest.

Yes, i'm hyped because it has to be colossal to forgive all this radio silence and secrecy.
Just a 2.2 beta wouldn't cut it.

Considering this is in Europe, and I'm on the other side of the world, I couldn't care less.
Show me the results in-game, then I'll get excited. Otherwise, it has no effect on me.
And since I don't spend my time reading about these sorts of things, watching videos about these sorts of things, or attending these sorts of things... well, I think you can guess the rest.

And it's not that I don't enjoy a good convention, but since there is no way I'll be attending this, well... you know.

No I am not hyped. I will come back to look later at the announce if I think of it but I don't expect anything. In fact, for every new feature they will announce, I will consider them as many problems and source of frustration added. Another new stuff unfinished and badly incorporated into the core game. And even if it was a flawless release of new "features", we will still be playing with an unfinished core game experience...

I am on the forum after spending half an hour mining to get access to an engineer. Soooo boring I just stop. And anyway, what can I do with my ultra mega powerfull ship after ? Nothing new. There is nothing with purpose in Elite to do. I know the game now, and there is no mechanics whatsoever to incite me to shoot at something. Damn even the exploration is somehow a scam: you can find the same stuff in the bubble and outside (except some black holes, etc...).
Someone gave the name of a streamer before. The Games Shed. I am looking at it right now and he's playing NMS on PS4 (well just finished his stream)
It's my opinion and only mine but NMS as much more mechanics about everything than Elite. I am sorry but for me, Elite has just stage the scene (a.k.a graphics and worlds), that's all. The comparison with NMS I just saw is terrible for Elite.
Seriously, 60min of NMS were enough to see how empty is Elite. It's nothing new but having it handed to me like that is somewhat brutal for Elite.

Hmm, Europe is a big place. Don't assume that because this game thingy is in Europe, it is just round the corner for us all, and all x hundred million of us Europeans will be popping in to have a look when we go for a pint of milk in the morning :)

Being neutral is the most neutral thing you can do. I prefer to be negative, because I am just a negative person, and it's more fun than being positive. Positive people are boring anyway. Just compare old Trent Reznor to someone like Obama. It's obvious.

Hmmm. I am one of those type o'people exclusively wearing black clothes and i love hard industrial music like Frontline Assembly, Hocico, Suicide Commando, Front 242 and so, besides some nice gothic rock and been doing so since the early 80th... FYI, Trent Reznor waved the broom in the Studio of the great industrial band Skinny Puppy, before he noticed that electronic music could be his thing :p

Guess what... I voted Yes

lol this reminds me of that old stereotype...

"Where are you from?"
"I am from near Manchester"
"I know a guy from Manchester called Dave......... Do you know him?"

Something that makes me go "why, I MUST fire up Elite and have a go at that!!". Planetary landings did that (novelty wore off quick though). Multicrew or spacelegs might do that too. Passenger missions wont', cos you know they are just going to be Boom People delivery missions. Meh.

At this point in Elite's lifespan, with No Man's Sky coming out and Star Citizen getting better by the day, Elite had better pluck that "something amazing" out of the bag and show it, or people are simply going to lose interest. Going "now you can load a people module into your Orca and do people carrying missions" isnt' going to make *anyone* go "wow, I must buy Elite immediately!!!". Seriously.

I work alongside (not within) a company like FD. There is some really clever stuff going on within that company, but there is no team, and there is hardly hardly any insight. I hear conversations among the engineers, and would love to step in with a back of envelope calculation to show that they are wasting their time on that project - I could save them so much money - but they like their simulations.

I'd like to call this a lack of commonsense - but that is a typical and predictable criticism of cleverness. However, cleverness needs guiding.

Too much astrophysics, too much cleverness in Elite - it is a pet massive project - it lacks fun and imagination. It is a technical triumph, but that is simply not enough. Anyway, it has all been said before.

If there were one piece of constructive advice I could give, it would be to hand some power over to creatives in FD - not to techies.
