The Star Citizen Thread v5

Star Citizen is still coming up the ranks in terms of notoriety, whille the money they got sure got them some headlines its their continuous push in both scope and fidelity that steals the show. This next few days should showcase clearly how big that scope and fidelity is. Bring on atmospheric planetary landings and Star Marine!

"Notoriety" is not a positive word in English English. It very much implies nagative publicity - and anyone who says that "all publicity is good publicity" is a liar.

Was that coming from something a CIG person once said or whatever?
Just fans AFAIK.

"You just don't understand games development" is oft used as a foil to any and all criticism of CiG's development practices, even criticism by actual veteran developers.

Five years in, no game, but maybe there will be a ship sale for an Aegis Crouton or a Skyspleener or a Continental Crobberliner! Oh wow, a variant Vindaloo military superiority fighter with thrush side pipes that won't be in the game for years!

These moronic "ship sales" are one of the tackiest things ever brought to gaming...

It gets them another round of the worth of $100 preorders at least per revealed ship
That's a huge goldmine. Even the biggest, meanest publisher companies usually only get one swipe at their fanbase before release, and never for more than $100 or $120.

You really think anybody here, except you and alikes, at this point gives a whack about new ships ?

Yeah if it's just more bloody ill fitting, poorly modeled, rubbish to fly ships to throw money at then that would be sad.

Despite getting refunded I truly hope they do have something decently playable in terms of the PU by this time next year maybe. I bought into this for the PU mostly.

Here's another aside:

The whole Goons thing I remember them from Eve I would have thought this would be something they would be all over positively another game for them to dominate in and all that. I'm a bit confused why they seem to be very much against it. Does it just come down to them thinking it's a scam etc?

Their view is:
1. If it comes out and it's good, they'll dominate it
2. It it doesn't come out or it does and it's bad, they laugh at it.
Either way, goons win.
That's the thing, they're not against the game really, they're just laughing at the dumpster fire it's becoming, making it look like it's heading for option 2 there

The "Goons" over at SomethingAwful feature a good number of users who were backers of Star Citizen originally. But having seen the "development" of the game progress in the fashion it has, their naturally cutting humour started to take over and positivity about the project started to turn into open contempt and mockery of everything Chris Roberts and the upper management.

Also they repeatedly make the point that in the extremely unlikely event that this game not only comes out and, on top of that, is actually reasonably playable (though not a good game by any stretch), then they'll have just as much fun griefing the heck out of the whales playing SC as they have been doing making them feel grief as they mock their often bone-headed support of all things CIG.

Notoriety is right

...which is itself a very bad sign

I can't shake this image now of backers greeting each other with a salute whilst earnestly proclaiming Scope & Fidelity!

Just an aside here

The whole "you don't understand <insert whatever here>" on going joke here.

Was that coming from something a CIG person once said or whatever?
It was a frequent defence against criticism. For a while there we were all "armchair developers" thanks to jolly Ben Lesnic, the "excellent" predecessor to Disco (a hat) Lando. Such a legacy of community management.

It's just like that bit in Gladiator :D

Except with a far worse script. And spaceships that spacemen don't fit into. And tentacle monsters.

A new version of the Launcher has been deployed(PTU), it should be right now the 2.4.7

It fix some issues(mostly connection issues it seems) but I don't have found(yet) any official patch notes.

This, is basically it. :) The other thing to note is during our lols at CIG's vaious mistakes, what would their efforts and company be like right now if we we not pointing out the sometimes glaring and sometimes (very well) hidden issues along the way? Interesting thoughts spring to mind, but it's the lols that they provide that really attract an gathering of goons. :D

Signed, An Goon :)

STOP pushing the scope and make the game(s)!!!!!

At my company I had a sign in my office that read: "There comes a time in every project where you have to shoot the engineer and get on with production."

If you keep adding features and trying to gold plate everything you'll never release a product. As a production manager and executive in my life it was my job to tell people no and figure out where that balance lie. Star Citizen suffers from a clear lack of concrete plan. DB seems to be able to say: "Yeah there are things we'd like to do, but can't/won't for right now." Not to say they'll hit every mark every time, but they seem to be progressing at a steady pace. Not to say some of their things need to be tweaked like making Powerplay count toward navel rank progression or pilot federations rank progress if you fly for an independent/alliance power.

It was just some minor fixes due to some bugs with the Multi-Faction-Authenticator.

As for goons dominating in Star Citizen? Well I very much doubt it but I will love to see them try that's for sure. :)
Word (well a spreadsheet so Excel) is that they altogether pledged around 1/4 of a million to Star Citizen since the kickstarter and that number might be even bigger by now so they sure did their part in bringing the project to fruition so we owe them that.

Gamescom showcase of new "things" is Friday so rest of the days seem more catered to people not familiar to the game, so nothing excited for the ones following the game since they seem to be only playing the old version. Even the same old bugs and glitch's get tiring right?

Just show us some of this please:

I've posted before about the concurrent preconceived idea that the Flight Model is M+KB biased but the flavour of the last builds tends heavily for HOTAS and more recently Double Joystick, KB+M just doesn't give the same level of precision to be able to achieve this kind of manoeuvring:
