I never made that claim, I implied that this is a REPRESENTATION of the technology that CR "mentioned" in the PC Gamers video interview; a technology that some here think cannot be done because of physics or server architecture.

And no doubt 'representation' is one of those convenient words that can mean whatever you choose it to. The video described specific technology - a network LOD system based on dynamically-resized volumes of gaming space, facilitating large numbers of players in a single shard. Technology which neither conforms to your earlier so-called 'explanation' which redefined 'instance' half way through, thereby not actually explaining anything, nor to CR's 2012 description of "temporary multiplayer 'battle' instance" (https://robertsspaceindustries.com/...s-On-Multiplayer-Single-Player-And-Instancing) which (if it were to work) would dynamically instance players not only according to proximity, but also to 'friend' groupings and NPC skill level. The latter is of course not the same as that described in the Dual Universe video, and whether it can be made workable (and indeed, whether CR still plans to try) is yet to be shown. Because regarding what can or cannot be done, the real issue isn't whether it is possible to do at all (which is almost certainly true, if you ignore time/bandwidth constraints), but whether it can be done in a manner that makes for enjoyable gameplay. And frankly, I see no reason to be optimistic about CIG being able to do it if they are still reworking the fundamental networking architecture at a stage when they are telling people that the game is "very nearly over the line to completion". It seems to be yet another instance of CIG prioritising the wrong things at the wrong time.

Their Gamescom livestreams have been a true embarrassment. It's just making sure to show to everyone who pay attention to it, how bad is the game and how not popular it truly is.

Between this terrible showing and Mr Braben's discussion of science informing gameplay, my pity for CIG has (re)developed into anger. A walking thumb with $120 million could only dream of what Braben has accomplished in the same timespan with considerably less than half as much (if even that). Indeed, that seems to be all he has been doing, dreaming. So much for respect for the fans.

The launch ED cost 20 million over 2 years to make, FD have been spending about 10 million a year on it every since. This is from the financial statements released by FD.

In terms of space not actually being "space" in game, really its not that big of a deal. No game will actually model that or implement something like that, after all there is no "air" in space (unless that is the point of thee game), but even flight games don't have air. So most games would implement it in a similar way as CIG has done. Difference is what other companies would check everyone in the airlock not just the person that pushed use. And other companies implement walls/floors, and not the vague idea of walls that CIG have done. Also other companies don't try to claim they are modeling everything, while CIG does this all the time, and then falls on their face when it is proven time and time again that they cheat and its nothing like they claimed. Kind of like how we would be controlling a pilot that would be controlling a ship, vs reality is that the player just becomes the ship.

This is the guy who Sandi says sits and programs code all night :)

Its still not modeling air molecules, just its effect on the airplane. Vs CIG's claim to model the air molecules going into the lungs or some such thing they claimed.

It's modelling air, or atmosphere, which CIG claims to be modelling space, or the lack of atmosphere, which they clearly aren't. It's all trigger based.

No, no one models molecules - that is impossible. But they should be modelling the lack of Oxygen, declaring certain aspects Oxygenated at a percentage level and others that aren't. There's a whole host of ways to properly model it, not the way they are doing it.

You simply don't understa... Oh, why bother. The joke is as stale as the development of SC.

2012

We’re already one year in - another two years puts us at 3 total which is ideal. Any more and things would begin to get stale.

Its funny that one of the first things CR told the public about SC, would end up being the only thing true.

But again, why bother? It would have no impact on the player. Its just more of the ridiculous nature of CIG. Modeling the oxygenation of the air? I mean really? That can be easily faked and no one would be able to tell the difference. You don't need to model it in a space sim.

I thought they already monitored O2 levels in the blood for the utmost reality and immersive fidelity?

I can't wait for players to start giggling and losing hand-eye coordination and logical thinking as their O2 levels drop:

[video=youtube;kUfF2MTnqAw]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kUfF2MTnqAw[/video]

Really, we all know it will be just a simple:

Code:
if (o2level <= 0.0) {
    commandoDead = True;
}

Huh what...oh this is still here...

Sorry, couldn't notice mighty CIG/RSI amid the roaring tide of hype from.....nearly every other dev at Gamescom

For real, I'm more hyped about the Natural Disasters expansion for City Skylines than I am about Star Citizen anymore. Pity.
