Does this mean I can buy my ships in the bubble, leave them there, go to Jaques, and get all my ships sent there?
Yes instant win.

Yep, but I suspect it'll cost a pretty penny

I'm happy enough with instant transport, but surprised they went for that. I would like to see transport ships moving about the shipping lanes and stations though.
I'm going to offer some counterpoint to the "everyone running around in long-jump transports" thing.
If such is the case, the galaxy is going to be filled with low-hanging fruit.
I think that exactly this will not be necessary. Sooner or later (probably sooner), there will be couple of decently equipped shipyards around Jaques and it will be better to buy ships there. But for engineer upgraded ships, it is a question. But I think that price will be really prohibitive.
IMHO the whole "ship transport thing" is targeted (once again) to the PvP/Open crowd and it is nothing interesting for a Solo trader/explorer like me.![]()
A galaxy filled with low-hanging fruit is more believeble than a galaxy filled with Cutter, Anacondas and Corvettes
I'm not a fan of ship teleportation (to be fair, I hate it), but I believe it might be the lesser evil, considering all other alternatives. A long wait will be highly unpopular, and start yet another insufferable shock wave of whining and moaning. A short wait will be mostly useless to implement, considering development effort / gameplay effect.
So the best, or better said, the "least worse" is probably teleportation but with costs that minimize exploitation. Considering what we get in return, makes teleportation a(nother) very cheesy mechanic, but one I'm willing to live with. My bigger concern is that this opens the door for incoming requests to teleport ships where the player is in to a chosen destination, aka "fast travel".
At least they could make a teleportation unit outside the stations so we could see some awesome stuff, like in Mass Effect relays. Then give it some lore explaining why we can't be on board.
Then it could be almost instant and the lore would be intact and the immersion would be untouched. Now it's just a big mess.

FWIW Sandro said they realised it was handwavium, but thought the gameplay advantages outweighed the lack of realism. He said if you wanted to take part in a community event, or dip into some PvP or pve then you wouldnt want to wait to get involved.
Transport - Yeah, Instant No.
They're missing an opportunity too add more NPC life into the game. There should be 2 classes of transport.
1 - Hire a pilot. Your ship flies to your location at a speed set by your ship's capabilities (it needs a scoop)
2 - Hire a transport. A massive ship transport carries your ship. This is the premium option as the carriers have a large jump range.
You should then see these guys in space and dropping ships off around stations.
Time shouldn't be long since it only takes 9 hours to fly to Sag A. We can simulate flight time without it being a massive time sink.
*Also, player missions to do 1 please. Then let us take a passenger trip to another destination or just make a career of flying other people's ships around.
I mean if ship transfer is instant, why Can't I just sit in the cargo hold of one of my ships and get it "teleported" across the bubble...
Can't overlook that logic challenging question "immersion" wise
EXACTLY!
I can hardly believe that Braben would allow this to happen. They are basically taking their 100,000 LY science driven galaxy and reducing it to a single click-to-buy magic teleportation. They are making a joke out of Jaques and Distant Worlds and the effort it takes to cross the bubble in a FDL.
When really all we wanted was a way to occasionally move our fleet for a fee. No one expected or wanted the wormhole fairy. A few select wormholes maybe, but not a fairy.
