"Wow I didn´t know that from now on I am not able to talk about the Star Marine any more in here??? "

How come? something is really weird with this forum and its attitude towards SC.. Star Marine is a Subpart to SC, like Arena Commander for example.

Those are virtual ingame modules to the game Star Citizen.

Squadron 42 is the name of the single player campaign.

Maybe this needs some clarification and mentioning among the community?

That's MicroTech one of the Planets in Stanton System, hopefully it comes with 3.0 or in the sequential updates. A very nice contrast to the darkness of space or the ArcCorp visuals.

~MicroTech produces electronics, including handheld sensors and computer software upgrades for starships. Their headquarters is the planet Stanton I also know as MicroTech, located in the Stanton system.[1]

Well. It took me a while, but I caught up on everything.

Honestly, I'd love to see SC made but I foresee a lot of gamers being substantially out of pocket in the end, because of this "dream" Croberts keeps having. I'm going to invoke Hanlon's Razor because after watching a load of videos with Croberts trying to explain... anything... there is no way in hell he is capable of orchestrating what looks like a particularly beautiful fraud. He is becoming increasingly rich from the whole affair blissfully ignorant to just how terrible he is at project management and game design... and games in general. I think he actually believes in himself, even though I am confident you could pick any teenager still wearing a school uniform, stick them at the head of his company and the game would be further to completion, with a lot less drama.

It's sad because, the art team involved in the game are clearly good at what they do. Beautiful ships, gorgeous concepts.... but form follows function. You design your game, you iterate on your design, you test those designs in your engine, you test if they're fun and then you stress it and analyse what needs changing to the engine and design to make the product work - to make it marketable. When you're finally happy you have workable solutions for your engine and have considered the feasibility - you build assets for it. Croberts is working in reverse and being applauded for it. That's the only thing I can see from this whole mess that is "groundbreaking" or new in the industry (working in reverse) and if Croberts actually releases the finished product he claims to be making I will be astonished.

I'm looking forward to seeing them seriously lower production time for the next wave of features they introduce, because if they don't... I'll probably check back in 4 years and see whether an RC is even on the horizon.

lets discuss about sq42. Mainly when its going to get released.
Because thats a great unknown for a game that hasnt released any gameplay trailers.
latest news was that its not going to make it into 2016 because ai and infiltration missions arent finished.
Now lets compare SQ42 with cod:IW
both games are promising to be a story driven non-linear single player campaign with arcade dogfighting.
the thing is that cod is entering beta 14.10.2016 while its release date is 4.11.2016
fjUTTzT.png

Now sq42 isnt even in alpha stage of testing. Even if it skips alpha phase in January the beta should last till february. if it is game with similar scope of cod:iw
And if sq42 is larger than cod:iw the alpha and beta stage will prolong even further making sq42 come in q3 of 2017

This is purely speculation of mine. Maybe the magic germans will solve everything ahead of time and sq42 would come out in april 1st who knows.
Theres also a chance that chris is lying or they hit a new problem that prolongs the development of sq42. Maybe they will release it in late 2018.

Edit: realised that i looked at dates wrong darn american dates system why did they choose to invert the numbers :(

with alpha stage on it we are looking something like autumn next year.

Yeah Squadron42 as been showcased albeit timidly, the best example is the Morrow Tour ofc and the on set footage of the actors, but that's not the "gold version" and has no gameplay so it's a very well hidden mystery, I don't know anyone expecting SQ42 this year with all things considered, but we should have proper clarification in October at the StarCitizencon.

Microtech intrigues me more because of the snow/ice aspect, although Biodomes are cool alright, specially if you can put them on ships :D

@ Zyll : I think there's a official COD: IW Thread so you might want to post that over there » https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/245794-Call-of-Duty-INFINITE-WARFARE

You get pirate spawn at will with pretty simplistic AI, what the solo PU shows you is the game area atm at about 60FPS and is pretty stable, I can play 2.5 solo at 60 FPS, in the standard PU I get about 20-40 FPS, sometimes a lot less and much more instability.

Does your amount of cash persist between game sessions in offline mode?

Re: S42, it wasn't long ago (2 months or so?) in a dev update that a couple of them were talking about AI, and how they hadn't even decided how exactly it was going to work.

Edit: hunting for the link.

Actually, MicroTech® produces knives, coins, and combs with no compromises on quality and innovation.

Let's also hope they've developed a sense of humour and/or proportion and don't pursue that registered trademark too vigorously. [big grin]

Lol - wasn't the name Star Marine also owned elsewhere?

Do they just copy this stuff regardless or do they just not bother to check?
Yeah, I read that somewhere too, but if I remember correctly, Star Marine was poised to be an actual problem. IANAL, but from what I understand, registered trademarks are pretty domain- and product specific. So, as with this case, a knife company would have to go pretty pretzel:y to figure out how to go after the name of an asset in a space game. With Star Marine, though, I got the impression that it too dealt with… well… star marines, so there's enough commonality and overlap that it could be a problem.

I'm guessing that they, like CIG, tried to evoke the notion of a Space Marine without using that specific name, since as everyone knows, trying to call anything by that name will get you carpet bombed by Games Workshop.

Cool, sounds quite positive in regards to SQ42.

COD really looks     . Totally cartoonish. Battlefield is the one and only.

Maybe that´s true...I think 2 that new Battlefield I seems to look better but both of this games looks waay better comparing it to the Star Marine game play and especially is interesting new COD because it´s going to be in space now so....

by the way who ever wants to try new Battlefield I now can downloaded for free demo vers on the Origin page https://www.origin.com/en-ie/store/free-games/demos-betas

Yes, but it turned out that the Star Marine name was also registered by some other entity, and unlike the aforementioned MicroTech, that trademark covered use in movies and games and the like.

e: A quick search found this: https://trademarks.justia.com/854/51/star-marine-85451490.html

I stand corrected! Didn't know about legal nonsense with CIG.

Although, if I remember how these things work, trade marks need to be defended by the holder. If that guy hasn't sued CIG then he's liable to lose it.
