I am not surprised by the delay of SQ42 to be honest and I think it is a shrewd move. Now they can release after COD:IW and know what the competition has done.

They already know what they haven't done, Seamless landings on atmospheric planets :p

Lovely knife design but (and I'm no pro on knives) that grip isn't exactly ergonomic.

With the kind of thick gloves those marine will be wearing I don't know if it makes much difference:

Not really. They'll have the assets and script finished by the end of 2017. Then they'll have more mocap to do in 2018. Then CR will notice some green pixels in the script, which will be refactored, and then everyone will have to come back in to re-re-re-mocap in 2020. Meanwhile ship sales and clothing specials every few weeks - they will introduce Pets and Hats 2.0, local physics grids will be fully enabled - at which point it will be realised that the render engine chokes on the physics grids, and Netcode* 42.0 isn't compatible with Pets and Hats 2.0 - so yet more refactoring crunch time joy for the poor developers.

* yes I know it's a junk term - but it feels appropriate here.
dont forget the interactions between farming and drink mixing. After all you definitely want that genuine natural fruit smoothie.
that takes effort and is source of true fidelity. Maybe the Hawaii trip was to research trip on various drink mixes one can make in the verse.

jokes aside this is pretty expected sad news. It also means that there will be more games that will compete for sq42 market share. For example mass effect andromeda is on track for Q1 2017 release.

Hmmmm, keeping track of all that floating stuff in multiplayer could be tricky! I wonder what they'll do...

You can do debris and such entirely clientside. Of course that means only you will see it, but if they are purely a visual effect that doesn't matter all that much. Plenty of games do this for stuff like gibs and other physics objects that are too numerous to sync over the net, and are purely there for visual effect.

Excessive polygons: Check
Completely Generic: Check
Roman Muscle Armour: Check
Skiboots: Check
Pointless Protusions to crush your sternum or snap your neck: Check
Killed in five seconds : Definitely :D

So far I've seen little evidence that the 'atmosphere' in SC has any significant effect beyond enabling distance fog.

Exactly most likely that's what already happens, we have seen people doing runs delivering cargo (benny machines runs) and only the actual player sees them. They can push the objects across the map tough, they don't reset. At least that I've noticed.

And that's just the medium armour...

@ Orlando: I said "so far". CIG may well intend to do some sort of primitive aerodynamic modelling at some point in the future, but as of now (unless you have evidence to the contrary), SC is in the same position as COD:IW, making your comparison invalid.

Well the whole 'verse has got a breathable atmosphere, Major Tom proved that (over and over and over...) ;)

Didn't one of the CIG faces proudly proclaim "Atmosphere pressure and composition, temperature and bloodstream oxygen levels monitored continuously for each player to ensure immersive realistic fidelity!"

Has any game ever done poppable blackheads and spots?

That could be fun.

Procedurally generated blackheads.

Don't pretend it's some sort of tactical marketing decision, this is just CIG failing to deliver the game when they claimed they would. Again. Because they haven't even nailed down "basic systems" after 5 years of development.

Unfortunately for them, players will also see what the competition has done, and the last thing Roberts needs is to put his single player game up against Mass Effect. And if next year's CoD happens to do space battles too then as far as mainstream gamers will be concerned, space games will have already been played out by the time S42 releases. So he'd better hope CoD jumps on the WW1 bandwagon after IW.

You just described Star Citizen absolutely perfectly. It's all just props to create a mood - the mood to spend money on debris ;)

Asp - you spend more time in this post than you do anywhere else on the forums. You do not know for how long I have been searching for your witty trolling. I come to this post and you're around 24/7, it's like a belated birthday gift.
