Maybe it could be a stretch goal or something. 124 million...put CR through elocution lessons so he doesn't make the game sound as if it's off the back of a beer mat.

CR showing how he does not know how PG works or how its used, also bashing ED.

Chris Roberts claims that he has the Best Damned Procedural Generation Ever!!!... just reminds me what a mind-boggingly amazing achievement David Braben's model of the Milky Way is. I mean you can look up at the stars from a moon in our solar system and see the constellations as they are in real life, and every star on all those constellations is a system you can visit in your spaceship.

But then David Braben has spent a lot of time perfecting his galaxy-building techniques...

Subscription MMO. Look at the revenues for Eve, get the game and business model right and its a gravy train.

Interestingly EVE Online is about to go semi-Free2Play: https://community.eveonline.com/new...tates-and-the-future-of-access-to-eve-online/

Edit. Not my work

Utterly clueless, isn't he. I think he should do a little more research into how proper Procedural Generation is actually done. Here's a starter for him:

I'm beginning to think that Mr Roberts hasn't done any actual coding in decades...

Usual caviate for SC that I'll judge it by what they release, but their prposed use of proc gen is interesting.

The limited number of star systems does mean that they can spend the effort to hand tune either for broad areas or blend in hand crafted areas like in the demos. It doesn't mean placing trees by hand.

Edit: a few posts appeared as I was writing. Just because ED's player base probably has a pretty good grasp of how procedural generation works, doesn't mean the SC fan base does. That is who CR is generally talking to.

I was just looking at that Chris Roberts interview where he says sq42 ready at the of year then it just needs a polish. Wasn't star marine getting polished just before it disappeared?

They're way too big for that. Even the sidewinder is about 2.5x larger than my entire appartment, over 200m2.

Can your apartment tear through the very foundation of reality to launch itself at an impossible speed to a star fifteen light years away? The Sidewinder is comparable in length and width to a F-15 which has no liveable space beyond the cockpit, though of course the former has a lot more volume. The Sidewinder has to carry its own fusion reactor, all of its reaction mass and fuel, plus the space for two weapons rivalling the GAU-8 Avenger in size and few other things.

Back in the Strike Commander days, CR was muttering about Neural Networks and it was clear back then he had no idea about NN or GA. He promised a learning and adapting AI, and if you play the game you know that none of that is there. And that was not a game where he was eased out by a big evil publisher. He had full control to the last day.

Much as it can create amusement, we would probably be better off concentrating on the game (or lack of it) rather than taking the micky out of a guy for being an unconvincing public speaker, to those who don't share his "vision".

Anyone know when citizencon is? Mid-October? Wonder if FDev are playing naughty and trying to get 2.2 out just ahead of it...

when was the last time chris roberts said no to an feature?
http://www.scqa.info/?keywords="No"

I think its shorter list than what star citizen will be according to chris roberts
Biggest issue with chris roberts is the fact that he cant say NO to a tempting feature. Even if he doesnt have enough cash to do that said feature.

Its quite easy to yes to everything.
Maybe i should run kickstarter campaign for world largest space simulator, with release date of two weeks(subject to change), it will feature persistence, physics grid, procedural generated planets with atmospheres, everything else chris roberts has said and more.
Ship pricing starts from 1 dolllar chair to 1 million dollar capital ship that will dwarf suns in its size. Dont worry about p2w it will not be p2w, everything is earnable ingame that 1 million dollar ship you could own it by playing the game for 2 weeks (subject to chance due to balancing pass of economy). I can achieve all of this with 6 million. (do note with 6 million budget we will have to seek outside investments for rest of 120 million we need ).. It will be great i once made space simulator that everyone then copied. (the space simulator got scrapped and was over-budget. Another team moved in to finish the mess only to find out that they cant use the assets i had made forcing them to start again. But hey i was involved in the final product as creative consultant, so all the ideas they had in that game were mine)..

Polishing to CR is screw the whole piece of paper up and throw it into the bin and start again.

Slightly before that, he also shows off his knowledge of how servers work and what they let you do:
Chris Roberts said:
Q: Modding. What are the future plans for modders, have you envisioned any tool to support the community?

CR:
Ehhh no no we're definitely gonna do TOOLS to allow people to like do CONTENT CREATION AND STUFF, so... again that's sort of uh... the FIRST LEVEL is like our... we're still building our TOOLS to like... like... build out like... the... like... PLANETS... and the STAR SYSTEMS... USING NEW TECHNOLOGY WE'RE USING... so eehhhh.... once... uh, we get... those WORKING then we sort of work on USABILITY AND STUFF and then... we'll be able to... PUSH the tools out for everyone... so it's NOT gonna be... you know... unfortunately in the next few months or in the next YEAR but uh... but after that it is... you know it is part of our PLANS, it's like... we gotta get our internal tools at a level... uh... good enough for our guys to use and then... make them sort of more USER FRIENDLY and then the SYSTEM that we could like have people create STUFF and then we could CURATE it and put it in the main game or allow people to run sort of their own sort of limited version of the game.

But... I will say that... the LIMITED... the PRIVATE SERVER ones are, you know... they will not be able to do what the... like our FULL CLOUD THING will do cos... that's got MULTIPLE MULTIPLE SERVERS running at... and we're gonna have them MESHED TOGETHER so there can be lots of people in the same instance so... that part's gone more... it's become BIGGER since when... when... they first started it. So. But you know you should be able to have... you know... like a... like the way FREELANCER did, you can run a server, you can have A HUNDRED PEOPLE ON IT OR SOMETHING and you can go around... uh... you know... uh... eh.... AN AREA YOU DESIGN OR WHATEVER.
Good job, Chris. I'm sure your full cloud thing of meshed servers will enable you to do both something and whatever. Such conviction and clarity.

It would be revenge for Star Citizen showing off their procedural planet renderer the same week Elite Dangerous Horizons was releases.

Stuttering/um-ah-err, classic indicators of someone making things up/lying.

Politicians are coached specifically to avoid doing things like that...
When CR told the original 2014 release date in 2012, he knew already, it wasn't happening. He lied about the state of the game (lie: "one year of game development already finished", truth: nothing there beside a fancy render trailer scrapped after the KS).

The same goes for announcing the 2016 release date in 2015. CIG/RSI couldn't have announced 2017 or 2018 last year without causing disappointment and more backers asking for refunds. So backers got deceived and strung along. The major issue is the "gaming press" not questioning any of this.

In reality this is not a delay from 2016 to 2017, it's one from 2019 to 2020. But only if Microsoft removes CR and finishes Freelancer without him.

How much of that comparison is Empty space on the F15?
The F15 is longer than the Sidewinder by 4 meters year, but the F15 is 13 meters wide but 2/3rd of that is Wing to the 21 meters none of which is wing
Besides there is the Hump behind the Cockpit that can be the Crew Cabin

latest

If the Aurora LN or Mustang Beta can fit a living space in a similar sized space, the Sidewinder can, in the lore with the zero G crew spaces a multi purpose with different floors or ceilings used as a "different" room

I don't really want to put myself in the position of defending CR in this thread, but he didn't really say anything wrong about procedural gen in that interview. If people are jumping on the word random, it was more than fair in the context that he used it.

He describe pretty well how their crafted planet system will work and how it differs from the NMS/ED approach.

He was pretty generous to Hello as well. His comments were essentially great techncial achievement but not to my taste.
