The Star Citizen Thread v5

This is why I couldn't stand working in sales, too much of a conscience. You find the right mark then abuse them with sales tactics. I just felt bad every time I convinced someone to upgrade their suite, or buy a holiday or promotion or whatever. It is so easy to do - like you say, you feed them just enough information to let them arrive at a conclusion or idea themselves and then cement it in by using affirmative language, smiling and agreeing with them.

After a while you even recognise the types that are not "fooled" or easily led into a purchase and can avoid them to make yourself efficient.

Yeah, those folks I'd just right away point them to the TV I'd buy. Affordable, good quality and they won't be disappointed. Lower margin, sure, but they learn to like you for the honesty and come back to buy other stuff. They actually end up making me more money over the long term...helping to pad my monthly take.

But yeah, I had to leave it behind after doing that for four years. Too many times had I set up a family on store credit, knowing full well they were using food stamps at the grocery next door. Though, when I sold a very expensive TV to a legally blind man ("See how big the buttons are on this TV's remote?!") I really had to reassess the person I was becoming...Now I use those skills to better understand the business people I work with and to fetter out the fluff from the actual work needed to get the project done. (From TV sales, to nuclear physics to software business analysis and project management, kinda crazy how it all came together into a good career)

Well when you have previously sold those dreams into a fun and enjoyable playable state before gaining world-wide gaming legend status you amass a huge and loyal fan-base and that's why Star Citizen is the biggest crowdfunding project ever. No other developer could pull this off. Not Carmak, not Romero, not Braben, not Garriot, not Suzuki, not Kojima or whatever old-school legendary gaming dev could pull this off. No one possess the combined social and technical skill in the same package: A Game designer with the Visionaire capacities to sell the dream, the programming skills/knowledge to understand how he can push tech, the Marketing and Social skills to explain his vision to both techies and mainstream gamers, and most importantily the b4ll's to go all out gungho and make the BDSSE.

That's why I think this is going to make history and become one of the milestones not just in gaming but in the entertainment industry altogether. Because it's a no compromises game aiming for the cream of the cream. No limits Just Excellence.

It's going to be glorious.

This reads like the back of a pamphlet.

Yes. Only one man has the chops for this job.

I'm confused are there two IceGryphons commenting on this thread.

I can assure you, that i don't have a split personality and the opinion about SC i expressed in this thread should be pretty straightforward.

Oh and CryEngine is fine. Magical Germans have been refactoring the code so it breaks less.

It's up to you to refer to those who used to work at CryTek and on CryEngine in particullar, which logically have a high understanding in the engine, as magical.

Are you sure you haven't signed up to the Scientologists by mistake?

Every successfully accomplished persona gains haters, it's the norm. With Chris Roberts it's no different. Only failures wish failure upon others
Like Gary Oldman said, "it's gona be a cracker". And there's nothing anyone can do about it. In this forum or anywhere. All the stars are aligned to produce one of the biggest and more revolutionary games ever. That's why it keeps gathering more and more support. It's becoming more and more evident as development goes, that, this is the real deal indeed. There is no stopping this behemoth of Capital Ship Video-Game.

Even mainstream media acknowledge that already:

You should work standup. Or possibly create a religion. Or both :)

I cannot afford any more idrises to fill up with laughter at the moment, I'll have to go back to my lulzlancer - and I can barely afford the rebuy on that ;)

You forgot Chris on that list. He lacks the technical, programming, and above all the project management skills to pull it off. Kojima would probably be able to do it if he just put his mind to it — he has all of the things you listed, as well as the directing, (absurdist) writing, and general storytelling chops to spin an interesting yarn, along with a pretty huge fanbase.

Keep that thinking going. One day you'll convince us Orlando! If he doesn't do it then I hope that thinking gives you warm feelings in the future. :)

I really don't think anyone here is qualified enough to say who is capable of pulling off this project. So far, nobody is capable, because the project is unreleased.

Ok, you have convinced me. You really don't believe the things you say do you. Your just having fun with this forum. I have to say it was kind of a good joke. But perhaps its also a sad thing, peoples opinions of the more fanatical of CIG's fans are so low that this type of response is expected, and not even thought of as being off.

This reads like the back of a pamphlet.

As someone who works in the advertising/media/PR industry I agree. It's not a natural use of language, it's PR or ad speak - buzzwords, how it's structured, and I think that English isn't Orlando's 1st language so maybe some of the constructions isn't quite as smooth as it could be but it's still good going if I was looking for some copy (I have plenty of friends who speak English as a 2nd/3rd language and enjoy discussions about grammar, phrasing, traditional sayings, etc so please don't take this as a negative! :) ).

I really wonder whether Orlando is in the advertising or PR trade. Note: Not necessarily as anything to do with CIG professionally, some habits can be hard to drop when off the clock!

No biggie, Citizencon is only a month away, lulzbuckets galore! [big grin]

no kidding, perhaps we can have CR try to play his own game again. Or heck just operate a PC, perhaps navigate through web sites, that should be fun to watch. We could even have him do something more complicated like install a program.
