The Star Citizen Thread v5

Since the Frigate comes up a lot

Is the naming of the Idris supposed to be a nod to the Mass Effect Normandy?

Since it is named after the "battle of Idris IV" from the First Tevarin war, and the Normandy after the D day landings

Doesn't seem to be much in the lore about the Idris system, that I can find.

Its not like either ED or SC are somehow Forced to Deliver everything they Promise.

True, but in the case of SC, if they don't deliver what they did promise, there is going to be a serious storm going on. Remember everything they promised that would be in, all those stretch goals, all those things they promised that would be in on release.

They have set some very challenging goals, and considering the wait the backers have had, if it releases with less than what was promised.... ouch.

Its a shame they didn't go with just getting a basic 1.0 out of the door to start with, and then started adding other things as time went on. But CR just wants perfection and he can't say no to anything. It might just spell doom for the project. Hopefully, i'm wrong.

Anyway, happy 1000 pages everyone! Here's a cake!

1.
Persistence. And Persistent Universe aint the Same thing lol.

Would you expand on this? I thought they were the same thing.

Just seen this reply...

Difference is that the Persistent Universe means an Virtual World. Where your actions Matter and where you Progress.
Currently only Partial Stuff is Persistent.
While the Plan is for everything to be Persistent :)

... but does that not mean that the PU and full persistence are the same thing? (This may just be me not understanding the reply).

This thread used to be polarized the other way. You were not allowed to say anything critical about the game. In fact at one point you could only same something critical if you posted something positive as well.

I've been following this thread since its inception because I'm interested in the game. I didn't realise I wasn't allowed to post any negative remarks.

The first post I made to this thread was a comment on Chris Robert's threatening letter to Derek Smart. I found it hard to believe the head of a multi-million dollar business could write something so unprofessional, and be so proud of it that he displays it on his own website.

Chris Roberts has lost all credibility in my eyes. I do still post here now and again, to poke fun at his latest muck-up, and ridicule his fans who believe he can brighten the world with sunshine by dropping his trousers and bending over.

It's been great fun watching these rabid fans issue their reassurances as the delivery date tends towards infinity. I've had my enjoyment from Star Citizen. If the talented people working on this game manage eventually to produce something half decent despite Chris Roberts, then I'll consider that a bonus.

And yet we are constantly dragged into comparing the two.

Speaking of which, ED got a new ship coming that I want and I am massively short on credits. Off to smuggle some stuff :)

Just haul shi...I mean biowaste.... from CEOS/Sothis

Was chatting with member of the SC org who lives down under and has to deal with crappy internet. Played a bit in 2.3.x and recently downloaded 2.5. His exact words were: "Not impressed with the progress".

Idris was a giant in Welsh folklore.

1. Uhh...But they've said they've given us, "Persistence" they even have a FAQ on it :) - https://robertsspaceindustries.com/faq/persistence

2. Do you have anything backing up that statement that we can lock our ships? I'm looking for facts. Please post them. I only have the ship I pre-ordered for. I do not have access to other ships unless I steal them. If someone steals my ship and destroys it I have to pay aUEC in order to spawn it or wait for the timer to run out. The cost goes down the per the timer.

3. Why did they release the hangar module then? Why do we have the pre-alpha? If it was true they wouldn't have hangar flair being released monthly(or is it weekly?) for subscribers. - https://robertsspaceindustries.com/comm-link/transmission/15283-April-Subscriber-Flair A list can be found here - http://starcitizen.wikia.com/wiki/Subscriber_flair

4. Sir, you are putting words in my mouth. When did I say it was "dropped"? I said it hasn't been implemented yet going on 3 years. The rest of your sentence is garbled, please reformat or explain.

5. I'm sorry, I don't understand. The two are built on the same engine and have the same ships/weapons/items. Please explain what you are trying to get at. I see a lack of progress, and not an infinite amount of capital to keep it going.

6. Again, you are putting words in my mouth, I can't force anyone to do anything. I can just point out they still have yet to deliver. Please link the article(s) or actual stats on your 30% claim. We are discussing SC not another game, stay on topic.

I.ll answer when I am home. Since this will take a bit.

Well.
It depends. Alot of the Backers only want the Game itself.
So some stuff not being there on release is fine.

As for CR not saying no. Well he has challenging Goals. But with 120 million he also got the budget for them.
So it might look worse than it is ;)

Would you expand on that? I thought it was the same thing.

Hmm. Somewhat tricky.
But lets take ED as example.

In ED we got the Promise of Planetary Landings. And we actually have Planetary Landings.
But we can only land on stuff without atmosphere. So while Planetary Landings are in fact implemented.
They have not yet actually delivered the promised feature :)

Its the same for SC here. Some parts are already persistent. But the feature *Persistent Universe* has not yet been delivered :)

Except for the reason given for all these delays was so that Star Citizen could have everything that has been promised ready to go day 1. Only to have that line of reasoning quashed earlier this year with the MVP remarks. A MVP type product was the given expectation for delivery in 2014 and would have been acceptable to many of us backers had it been delivered in that state nearly two years ago. But it wasn't. We now hear something about space farming coming in 3.0? Really space farming, but nothing about an elaborate player influenced economy with trade and manufacturing system built into as pitched in videos now 3 years ago? No information when the star farer in my hangar will actually be useful to scoop, refine, and deliver fuel to other ships or markets (fueling boom still isn't modeled for the ship yet). Not even detailed write ups or work in progress segments on their weekly video shows? At least FDEV showed up to Gamescom with some pretty detailed videos showing and explaining how the new passenger missions & ship launched fighters are going to work and showed how it is planed to work step by step. Did they caveat it with the "hey it's not final and still WIP internal builds" but it's clear that the devs and designers know how it will work and can tell us how they intend for it to work.

Again any information we have on how the economy et. al will work in Star Citizen was from interviews and materials released now 3 years ago by people who left CIG two years ago. How much of what they said back then still holds true with their current thinking and internal expectations? We the backers don't know because that kind of information is not communicated to the backers anymore. Back in the early days we had a much better idea on what their thoughts and ideas for gameplay were, but again the people with those ideas have largely moved on from the project. So where does that leave things today?

Thanks to that announcement of 2.2 I started playing ED again, wanted that ship. And so I finally finished getting Elite in trading.

Congratulations, I think I'm going to hit Elite on the forum before I hit Elite in game.

Begs the question, what type of prestige systems does Star Citizen plan to implement?

Well.
Being honest. Even if they said MVP i doubt they will scratch already available features.
Meaning their MVP will likely come with a big Ton of additions right away.
So it wont be what you would have gotten in 2014.

As for lack of info.
Well Economy aint such an interesting topic for most.
So the more likely scenario right now is. That as an necessity its being developed but not really making it into the news.

Apparently this is the letter that is sent to people who want a refund.

Read the last paragraph.
This means that the money they received has already been spent.

I love the idea of SC. I do hope that this comes out someday, and that it's good. But you know what?

This company is not trustworthy.

Oh yes, a company building studios, hiring people to make a game costs money! Who would have tough... How silly of them, not trustworthy at all. [squeeeee]

"That have already been applied to develop" ..... to develop what? You can't end the sentence like that. And no full stop!!!!! Are you sure that is legit?
