The Star Citizen Thread v5

The AI with the functioning lives bit is so far fetched for being implemented. They want to do Fallout in space with that. This is going to require quite the network infrastructure, this is more than just syncing clients. Look at the video FDev put out for their current networking and how it stores the data so all clients get the same data plus store their players. Now add in AI that has to do the same thing across all clients at the same (within a ms or so) and it is going to be incredibly difficult. As of yet, they still struggle with just front end client's syncing up and they are going to deliver a "living" 100 star system "'Verse?"

So, unsurprisingly, the customer support letter is actually real - and their CS has shown themselves again to be absolutely abysmal.

How do you even function as a company when your CS is that bad?

The funny thing about the whole think, they seem to have sorted it out and he will get his wish good for him..or was it?
Because he came to see the cultish behavior of a community and experienced it first hand on HIMSELF as being excommunicationed by the community for his heresy act on asking for a refund, beside being his right and stated on terms of agreement.
It will definatly leave a very bad taste in his mouth.

Hey that's just not fair!

They've got taking customers money down to a fine art, they're brilliant at it. Giving it back is just a tiny part of their operation.

So it could do with a little refactoring.. I'm sure they will fix in a couple of weeks. Not an issue folks. Move along.

"butt-hurt"
"special snowflake"
"doubter"
"leaver"
"goon"

The director of marketing is leading by example, the workforce are following (I doubt they go so far as to tape each other to the walls, but you never know).

I'm opening bets on this one.
Which do you think will have better made (story-graphically-technically-everything wise) single player campaign.

CIG's SQ42 or this:

Yeah, it sounds like Strike Commander all over again, which was supposed to feature AI enemies that are able to learn your tactics and become better with each dogfight.

I like what the Project Lead for Stellaris said, when asked will the AI be able to learn and adapt to player stratergy
Some thing along the lines of if they could write AI like that they wouldn't be wasting it on a game

Ditto about Strike Commander's AI - but more to the point...

This is why the "doubters"       about the amount of progress being made - for this kind of thing to be even a remote possibility this whole alpha should be running butterysmooth with hundreds of players/characters and a fleet of ships. Sure OK the new netcode might change everything, but by now a miracle is required and we lack faith in miracles

My argument is this Star Citizens development can be observed and it is real. You get patches, updates, jump point magazines, videos, QnA as well as Dev feedback. So all these things are less believable btw you can see these with your own eyes than what Derek Smart is claiming?

Being skeptical is not a bad thing but there is a huge difference between the reality of a games development however controversial you might perceive it which is real and random claims or rumours that have been since 2012 that have no basis.

I believe the point about development "progress" is rather well illustrated in this chart published somewhere else. I have edited the swearing in it out, and I probably do not agree with all insights the author put in it but, if you forgive for a moment its sensationalism, the overall message about SC "progress" and how it differs from your idea of progress is clear.

The difference of opinions is not about progress "yay" or "nay" but about its rate:

you can see a tiny bit of it there, but they say its 100% off the rails.

Yeah, i've just watched that, and some other videos in the COD threat. They certainly don't seem to have 6DOF, and i was a lot point&boost. I still expect SQ42 to "feel" more spacey, at least with some drag and inertia. But then again, Infinite Ward are probably much more experienced at making a game that's fun with a controller (COD is a couch game for me, sitting at the desk its much harder to disable the brain... ;)).

I am, however, really curious how the SQ42 trailer will compare with this COD trailer. This is, after all, CIG's specialty.

Today, SC is best played with a mouse, there are no real inertia or feeling of weight of the ships like in ED.
CoD will be a good story campaign and that is how I see it. SQ42 will have to compete with that, as they aim for the same new customer segments.

If FDEV ever did a SP story campaign (and I hope they will at some point) they would be in the same situation.
