The Star Citizen Thread v5

Orlando, I'd now spend like an hour to search for the material in question, but you know what I realized?

It doesn't matter. Because even if I did, it'd be called either fake, or "out of date" or something to the same effect. Fact is, Chris Roberts repeatedly said that they would "spend R&D on procedural generation" but that inclusion was not going to be certain, and that handcrafting would be the primary means of creating locations in the game. And the fans were mocking ED for planning to offer 400 billion stars in a PG galaxy, saying things like "20 handcrafted systems are always better than 400 billion PG ones".

But ultimately, what counts is the game. And if you call 2.4 a game then your standards are pretty low. It is very much an alpha and a demo of things to come eventually.

I'm sure someone has a list of all the missing parts. It's very long. And no I will not post it here now.

Get a court order or subpoena.

I don't think its as simple as that. I'm pretty sure you probably have to have some sort of law suite/case against them in court of law for it to get at that stage. They are a private company, bar some sort of lawsuit or if people privy to the financials, such as the CFO/accountants/owners release it, nobody knows.

Well, I kind of agree with you, I am not sure what CIG's plans were for creating 100+ star systems. I doubt they were going to hand craft them all, if anything I think people probably misquoted CR. I am pretty sure even his Freelancer used PG to create the star systems. There is nothing wrong with PG, it all comes down to how many unique assets you are able to create for the PG. The less assets you have, the less diversified the PG/feel will be. I think some people might not understand how time intensive and cost intensive hand crafting 100+ systems will be. I think even back in 2013/2014 the Foundry 42 studio was creating PG tech for the rooms on the Shubing station.

Also, as to regards if current SC is a game, of course it's a game, its a game that is in its Alpha. If anything the comparison can be made with the first release of Elite's Alpha where you were limited to 1 system. But in that regard, the Elite Alpha was much more polished.

Maybe you should try doing some research about Duke Nukem before comparing it with CIG/Star Citizen because that actually helps reinforce the case that they are on the right track! ;)

On track to be late and terrible, now we agree. The only thing they still need are a few changes of engine.

I think your guess is good as any. From my perspective, I think SQ 42 might be out Q2/Q3 2017 and the PU Q4 2017/Q1 2018. I think just going by state of the PU they need a solid year or so of work to get it where it needs to be, getting in the underlying tech is what takes a while. Also I think its a toss up on how many people will be in a single location as well. I am hopeful for 40-50 people :).

But Chris said up to 100 - did something go wrong?

Yeah because somebody who backed both games from Alpha and tries to have a civil discussion is a CR hound. Man, since I left this thread 1-2 years ago it's become an echo chamber of negativity, at least back then there were actual two sides on the argument.

Another person noticing this....must be a conspiracy!

2.5 Actually, and yes plenty of people are having fun with it, lot of Elite players included. It's a nice change of pace and offers game experiences that no other space game offers atm. Yes it's buggy yes it's unfinished but there's stuff to do and have fun that counts as a game for me whatever people may say.

Just keep on wishing then [big grin]

It is hard to understand because you have entirely failed to explain what the PG technology CIG are using has to do with seamless landings.

Because since they now have the tech to do seamless landings on planets they are going to need to make and populate said planets.
Before they were not thinking of having the ability to do seamless landings with CryEngine so it was going to be just like Freelancer. Having some kind of loading screen masked when entering/leaving planets.

How is that hard to understand? New tech opened up new possibilities in game design and they are now trying to make the most of it, it's not about a prejudice with PG, it's about using the right tool for the each purpose.

If I remember right from the Citizen Con demonstration, end of 2016, but it's CIG dates are not something they are good at, they got about 3 months or so.

Okay - so it's something else they've said that's happening that hasn't happened yet.

Is there any reason to think that this particular thing will happen when predicted - and work properly - given all the other things that haven't?

Is there something special or unusual about this thing to make it different to all the others?

Well I tried 2.4, my nephew has it. That wasn't very fun. He did try 2.5 once and then deleted the game again so I didn't get to play it. Not that the changelog made me want to.

Maybe because last year they said that 2.0 was coming at the end of the year, which it did. ;)

Yeah nephews are awesome, maybe he let's you have another go when 3.0 comes!

Well, I don't know, it's software, you never know what can happen and delays happen. Even with major AAA studios.

I'm sure that's true but I'm not sure it's relevant given that CIG/RSI isn't a major AAA studio.

I never claimed CIG was AAA studio, I claimed even AAA studios have delays, the only time you see those delays publicly is when a game gets pushed back from its initial release date, but what happens behind closed doors date wise/milestones we never know, because they are not in the public eye such as for CIG or Frontier.

Which takes us back to where we were - it's all talk - just like the last 5 years.
