Deep Recon X - Gateway

So I have a few questions about Deep Recon X...I'm still in my little crappy Cobra trying to earn CR to get an Asp Explorer. I really don't do PvP and sort of hesitant to go into the Open server so I've stayed on my own. NPC already killed me when I was in my Adder, not a pleasant experience. Because I really don't do PvP I joined the Mobius group on XBox One.

I'd like to do some exploring and Deep Recon seems like a cool group to do it with. Do you guys have your own separate server group as well or play on Open? Would being part of Mobius be a conflict of interest with Deep Recon?

Again sorry for all the questions, I've had this game for a week and have played it for like 5-6 days now. XBox Gamertag is: ThomasWJames

Thanks for all the help. Take care.

You can play in whatever mode you like dude. :)

I keep hearing about this permit kicked sector, and it makes me both nervous and curious at the same time.

God's why do I have to be at work?

It's not that bad. I was there when Horizons dropped and didn't even know if there was a way out. There's a pretty simple route in and out, I went back and spent a couple of weeks there

Afternoon all, I'm liking what you've done with the new place iconoclypse.

I've not been able to log in for the last few months as real life got in the way. I met a lovely lady and expected it to be over and done with after a few weeks but she's still interested in seeing me. I'm sure she'll see the light soon though and I can climb aboard my trusty python and head out into the black.

Missing you fine folk muchly.

Hi there, don't worry about any conflict of interest at all, DRX is a welcoming bunch of people , we take anyone!

As our good friend Alicorn says, it doesn't matter which mode you prefer , it's really down to what you like and feel comfortable with.

Don't knock the cobra too early as it does make a fine exploration vessel for those on a budget . As does the hauler! If you'd like some pointers as to some budget explorers just ask.

If you have any questions on the game or about exploration just ask.

cheers

I'm only peeking in to check stuff out, kinda had forgotten about y'all till Iconoclypse here added me on the xbone.

I do have a couple questions, how do I find y'all on the mobile version of discord, and does it really affect much if I'm routinely working or just unable to be around during certain times?

Although I'm currently in various ships, I still let to go back to the Cobra mk 3. I'm in mine now, out at Maia.

Okay so I signed up today to DRX. Decided that it's exploration that I want to really do and not so much trading (what I'm doing now in my Cobra Mk III). I have a few questions, I don't know if this is the right forum to ask but here they go...this might get long so again bear with me as I'm a total newbie in this game.

1. Does DRX have an actual separate website/forums for themselves or are these the ones you use?

2. I'm aiming for Asp Explorer that will cost around 52,000,000 CR here is the build: My Asp Explorer Build <--that's what I was thinking for explorer build, please feel free to comment on it and give me suggestions for when I get there (I still only have 1,400,000 CR...still awhile to go.
When building I'm just tempted to pick everything "A" rated but I don't know what's actually important in DEEP DEEP Exploration. I figure life support is useless that far out so just D. Lots of Heat Sinks just in case of sun heat damage. No weapons (nothing to fire upon really). I want a planetary vehicle to land and explore, etc. I have the Thrusters, Power, and Distributor at D rating is this right? How important are they in deep space?

3. Does one need any cargo when going deep into the black? If none is required I was thinking of putting a Fuel Tank in there.

4. How can you tell if no one has been to a system yet in the Galaxy map? You know, being the first.

5. How important is the Sensor in deep space? D rated? A rated?

6. If someone has already visited the system do you still get credits for getting there and exploring it anyway?

7. If you die out there what happens to all the exploration data you collected? Does it disappear or do you keep it? Does the game start you again in a random station?

8. Is the regular shield or the Bi-Weave shield better for exploration out into deep space?

Well if you've gotten this far I want to thank you, if you answer my questions I want to thank you even further. Wow I'm actually so excited for creating this build and I'm not even close to reaching that goal lol. I'm also planning another build for flying around populated space and grinding missions and trading: Multipurpose Build <--turns out this one with more "A" stuff is actually a cheaper build! That 6A Fuel Scoop is expensive!!!

I'll answer what I can.l to help ya out.

I believe you do get credits/pay for scanning a system already discovered, but you won't get a first discovery bonus.

If you die, all that data goes buh bye.

D rate everything except your fsd and a couple other modules ( I forget which)

And I'm not sure about cargo, but having a couple slots open couldn't hurt?

Thanks for answering some of my questions, hopefully someone else can answer the rest. Wow exploring is pretty dangerous in itself. Have to fly carefully. Losing so much data would suck so much for so much time commitment, especially people who venture out super far. That's really cool though in a way. Makes me really get an Asp and go out there for the challenge.

We do: http://inara.cz/wing/935

You'll need 3m to explore with all the top discovery and surface scanners (Hauler with a 30LY jump). You'll need 14m for a top-spec DBX with good thrusters, shields (both for planetary landings) and an SRV. It only has 1LY lower jump than a 42m Asp. I love the DBX.

3. Does one need any cargo when going deep into the black? If none is required I was thinking of putting a Fuel Tank in there.

I don't bother.

4. How can you tell if no one has been to a system yet in the Galaxy map? You know, being the first.

If there's no yellow CMDR name on the system map, she's all yours

5. How important is the Sensor in deep space? D rated? A rated?

Not very. D rate it.

6. If someone has already visited the system do you still get credits for getting there and exploring it anyway?

Yes,you still get paid. You get a 50% bonus on top if it's undiscovered.

7. If you die out there what happens to all the exploration data you collected? Does it disappear or do you keep it? Does the game start you again in a random station?

The data is lost and you return to the last base you docked at. Don't die.

8. Is the regular shield or the Bi-Weave shield better for exploration out into deep space?

I use a 3A in the DBX. Probably a 5D or 4A in the Asp.

Thanks, Bongo!!! I was working my way through, but that was perfect!!!
Everyone else I'd like to take this opportunity to point out that along with being one of the nicest, friendliest, most knowledgeable CMDRs on this ENTIRE forum (He's ELITE, on the fricking forum, and count those pips!), he's a renowned and respected deep spacer, and yet, has not only thrown in his lot with us DReXers, but has refused requests to join the Command Team more than once. In an OFFICIAL capacity anyway... Because I can't imagine this group existing without his expertise and gentle erudition.

Plus you saved me answering... ;)

Welcome to DRX, CMDR. I know by now you've already seen we're an irreverent bunch, but never less than helpful.
We have a group get-together mission this weekend, btw so this is your chance to try Open and say Hello, while plenty of us are surrounding you to take the fire (I jest, Open is scary for newcomers, but nowhere near as bad as you might think).
In fact I think it bears saying to EVERYONE, while DRX will ALWAYS respect your gameplay choices, you've more to gain from Open than lose. This weekend's mission, 'Homecoming', is open to all DreXers, just to say you were there at that time, BUT if you're in Open you're see a whole lot more - especially if you take the trouble to add members from the Official Roster to you Live friends list, whether they're in your time zone or not! Some of us, myself included, keep odd hours, so you never know when you might see that green icon on you Galaxy Map. Try to keep an Open mind.
Yes, I believe that was the first time I restated DRX's mode choice neutrality but at the same time ACTIVELY ENCOURAGED Open play.
Don't be afraid, Don't be VERY afraid, to mangle an old (shoot, now I feel OLD) movie tagline...

Seeing as bongo has you covered on your questions, I can give you a crash course in survival in open if you'd like.
It'd be best to include most of DRX if we can during this weekend. Most of its gonna be basic stuff, but some of it will be things that aren't always intuitive or obvious, like mass lock, reboot/repair, and interdiction evasion. On that last point is like to also explain how to lose a persistent follower if it becomes necessary as well, (not that I've found it to be a common occurrence myself, but better safe than sorry.)

Really glad your along for the ride Thomas. Not a lot I can add onto these superb comments really. What I would say is that Open is certainly worth trying. And I was just like you, a little bit nervous about trying it. But seriously, it's not as bad as you may imagine. I'd say it's pretty rare to encounter idiots who attack for no reason. You will find that most commander's will usually just say hi, chat, comment on your cool ship etc.

As for ship choice, as Bongo said, the DBX is a good alternative to the Asp X. Several ships make good explorer's though. I've even seen some commander's using Type 6 and Haulers.

For a good increase in credits, why not try doing some data runs between Sothis and Ceos. The Cobra can do this easily. Strip all weapons, add cargo racks and rely on its speed and you will easily rack up the credits. And when your ready, you can pick up a couple of long range haulage runs which could net you several million.

I'm going to be around on an off over the weekend so hope to see you around Gateway. Feel free to add all us DRXsers as friends too. [yesnod]
