What a horrendous presentation.
On the CIG forum people are un-ironically calling it 'the greatest moment in gaming'. [haha]
What a horrendous presentation.
Lets face it, if the voice over had been David Braben and we were being shown ED Spacelegs we would all be creaming our collective undies right now.
They look gorgeous, hadn't seen any that looked like that yet.
So they created maps for this presentation, SC is map base, maps made in World creatorI would do that in a weekend too, the maps not the worm thingy.

Everything looks better with some smoke/fog/mist.![]()
I see first person happening anytime soon as a marketing dream, but a gameplay blunder...Lets face it, if the voice over had been David Braben and we were being shown ED Spacelegs we would all be creaming our collective undies right now.

That's unbelievable
I bet the lore for that guy riding that sandworm is a "freyman" or something similarly idiotic, like everything else CIG has come up with so far
Somehow CIG steals great IP and makes it suck
And with 'marketing dream' you mean 'what lots of people want', and with 'gameplay blunder' you mean you'd rather see something else? No need for window dressing, having opinions is allowed here!![]()
It's a spoof!
S42 is supposed to be the easy one, the one which isn't hamstrung by bad network tech, that doesn't need all the professions or hundred star systems, and which cultists like to claim is a completely separate game and not dependent on everything that's broken in SC.
Fans and sceptics at least seemed to agree that Squadron 42 would be a big part of this show. The fact that not only is the game not coming any time soon (which wasn't exactly a surprise), but also that they couldn't even cobble together five minutes of cutscenes to show the fans is a bit mind-blowing at this stage. S42 is supposed to be the easy one, the one which isn't hamstrung by bad network tech, that doesn't need all the professions or hundred star systems, and which cultists like to claim is a completely separate game and not dependent on everything that's broken in SC. And the one on which they've reportedly spent tens of millions of dollars on mocap. And still, nothing. And this wasn't a CIG stand at a trade show, it was a show entirely devoted to their own games.
I'm just amazed that they actually managed to fall short of my own, slightly sarcastically low expectations.
But there's 20 hours of mocap (blimey) and an 1100 page script (double blimey) in the can!
I can't wait*.
* That was sarcasm.
I'm sure that first they did the MoCap (because CR likes MoCap, he goes full George Lucas then), then they wrote a script, and now they realised they need the tech to make a game with this material.
