The Star Citizen Thread v5

Back in 2013 i was convinced that SC won't be released before early 2016, and fans called me a hater. I was confident it will be released 2016/17, but now it's much more 2019 if at all.
A game with 2011 graphics will be awesome in 2019. 9/10!

Hmm, I wonder where some of the most prominent and vocal backers of Chris Roberts and CIG and Star Citizen are right now?

I mean, CitCon happened and Chris Roberts just outright OWNED the gaming industry with the revolutionary reveals of Squadron 42 and Star Citizen he showed yesterday, and how all of this was going to be out before the end of the year, and is playable already and after that... I was SURE they would be on here to tell us how wrong we were in ever doubting Roberts' "Vision" and that we should all be sorry for ever speaking ill of this videogaming Titan.

Remarkable the stunning silence there has been since last night....
Reputation management costs money. The second the payments stop, the bots stop posting.

I believe FD is much closer to actually landable atmospheric planet than CIG ever will be.
Kerbal Space Program has handcrafted landable planets with atmosphere since 2011 in a playable game. This is nothing groundbreaking, which hasn't been done before.

They already up the requirement by stating Season 3 will requir 64 bit and directx 11 graphic card will be minimum requirement.
Not for the Xbone version.

Editor stuff nothing special just typical editor. Someone pointed out planet tycoon version of this that makes more sense, and is more intuitive to use.
-when they played star citizen in editor runtime resources didnt move over 100 megs staying steadily in 11 gigs, no matter if they were in empty space or on planetary surface.
I bet that was all faked too. The fade to black in the end gave it away.

Do you guys think posting a topic in their general forums "Frank Herbert is turning in his grave" would grant the OP a ban ? Or would it just be deleted?

Right now I think the OP would get away with it... I think the mods are all in hiding.

Actually there is quite a backlash on the RSI forums. I've had a look in General Chat (I'm having a lazy day) and there are lots of comments, that would normally get probation or get threads sent to the concern ignore place, still hanging around.

Even some of the most fervent white knights are somewhat peeved.
I really hope they are. Tech demo was ok, trying to appease to fan base with cliche sci-fi references, doing *nothing* original with lore (which isn't bad by itself don't get me wrong)...I would be angry too.

I dont think FD will release atmospheric planets if they're not up to standard because let's face it David Braben isn't an idiot, can't speak for a certain other guy though. Does trouble me that they've put in city and road lighting on the Earth likes in Elite Dangerous, that will be a technical challenge to put it mildly.

KSP planets are very primitive (as their goal has never been as very approximate bodies for ships to orbit around), they usually get PG boost via mods. Yes, there's atmosphere, but it has no weather system to talk about.

I'm glad there are citizens finally saying things like "It's a bit late in the game not to show X" etc. It's a sign that normal people do in fact not just assume development only started 6 months ago or whatever, in contrast to the gords and orlandos of this world.

Also, lol at Chris finally just flat-out contradicting his earlier self by saying development started in 2013. If you begin with lies, might as well make a full job of it and go the whole hog right?

All the fancy stuff they're showing ... but when can I change the gender of my character, or (shocked gasp) customize my character, blasphemy, I know.

And next year - he'll be saying that development didn't properly start until 2014, and so on. And it'll be true (to a degree), because Feature X will be announced that takes precedence and development will move to focus on it.

The whole point of this so far is to remain in development. I cannot see any other purpose to what they are saying or doing. The only reason to remain in development is to continue to get cash from urm, enthusiastic, backers. The only reason they will give cash is if the scope continually changes to have new gameplay element Y, every single year. Reaching production is counter-productive. CIG have to remain in a perpetual stage of concepting and refactoring.

But, where is CMDR Oralndo ?
I'd like to see his opinion.

All the Pro SC shoutabouts are missing in action (not including Rolan in this he's a decent stick). They are obviously busy shoring up the rest of the Internet to come on here and put up with the banter here. I can't say I'd blame them there are far bigger fires to fight on the CIG forums and reddit that here i guess :)

This is a shame though really as much as I detest this company and its business model and practices I'd love to see the game made and released. It'll never happen properly with the muppet show running it. :(

Come December, they'll have finished SQ42 and released Star Marine and have a brand new concept ship to show off :) It's going to be the best space thing ever!

Buy a Polaris!

They already have their audience, for the most part. The perpetual development something they are kind of trapped in (due to their own mismanagement of the project). It's not like new sales (as in, from people who are not currently backers on even the most minimal level) are ever going to outweigh the cost of development up to this point (or last year, or the year before, for that matter). SC/SQ42 isn't a project that is sweeping the gaming world and has people waiting in anticipation. They have their backers, and what the backers do not understand is that even with these presentations, throwing money at the project is not going to make it better. It hasn't yet. For years. Financially restricting them and forcing them to deliver something they could call a "game" or the MVP - even if they could build on it incrementally - would be wise. At this point, the hardcore faithful (we've already seen yesterday's letdown getting spun as "hope of greater things to come in the near future") deserve everything they've gotten in this dance, though RSI/CIG are going to have to deal with some real world consequences after the fallout.

What do giant sandworms eat?

The energy requirements for something that size would be astronomical. and could it support it's own weight given that the gravity appears earth like?

I don't reckon we'll be seeing anything like that in elite unless they've thought it through a bit more scientifically. (low G high oxygen worlds?, or sea dwellers?)

Well, those Dune sand worms are so high on Spice that they don't know or care if they're supposed to crumble under their own weight. [haha]
