I can see great potential for an Action-Adventure-RPG game in the Dune universe! But i don't see many game dev studio that are up to the task. CDPR would be my No1 choice. But as a FPS, please no. Dune is about the epic, the lore, the progression of characters, the spice!
What? No “Sardaukar — Soldier of the Empire” game from the folks who gave us Colonial Marines? What could possibly go wrong? :D

FPS all the way, mirages, drum sand, cryknives, needler's, lasguns, body shields (interaction between lasguns and bodyshields), ornithopters, worms attracted by walking in a regular way !. It would be great. All kinds of professions and factions. And dare I say it survival aspects (extract water from the dead, or nearly dead).

3rd person ruins games for me (action figure/doll simulators).

Oh and just so that Mr Roberts doesn't get away with his rather blatant "refactoring" of the development timeline of Star Citizen and Squadron 42 during that shambles on Sunday, here's some helpful reminders, from Chris Roberts himself, about when development started on this whole mess.

CIG was announcing and celebrating their "1st Anniversary"

CIG Manchester was announced
"Chris & Erin Roberts and the Cloud Imperium / Foundry 42 team get started on the single-player experience, Squadron 42."

Citizen Con did exist back then, "revealing some of the work we’ve been focusing on in the last year."

The "Hangar Module" w/ Avenger was released. And a fish tank, of course.

That all came from October 2013

Hoisted by his own ego.

Can be first person, but i think it should focus on story and characters, maybe few puzzles, some quests etc, not just combat.

It could be done as a mod for Crysis - have you seen StarCry? (http://www.moddb.com/mods/starcry)

Not related, but something Space 1999 based for you, also done in CryEngine2 - not sure if the developer got anywhere further with it... - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rFucqWioySg

Absolutely 1st and 3rd person switch works in loads of games (curse you dead space) I always willingly give up being able to see around corners/over cover to stick with 1st person.

You could search a abandoned sietch's for clues to the location of ancient insane AI leftovers from the Butlerian jihad, there's loads of potential for all kinds of great stuff.

I mean even if they don´t have any of their own creativity and if CR really insist to implement giant worm in SC they could just look around in our nature and copy for example this real monster........

I love this part

The team stated that while a lot of the technology behind Squadron 42 is done there are still a few areas that are lacking such as AI logic and mission integration. It says that its current goal is to bring the game's first chapter to release quality, and then show it off to the public. Squadron 42 has 28 chapters.

So basically there is NO game even at alpha level.

Don't be the publisher

..even if they said they would treat us like a publisher.

Seriously though. I'm impressed with the SC community by and large, for at least raising a few issues this week. It's felt much more healthy rather than simply cheering at the videos and clapping and endlessly saying how much better everything will be and making fun of other games in the meantime. We've actually seen some legitimate concerns raised, it's almost as if these people are indeed human and there are limits to what they will take on face value. For me as a cynical but hopeful backer, there may still be hope for the project and its community.

Also, one of the things that has come out of Citizencon is the roadmap, no matter how unlikely. We actually have a set of intended releases and goals set around the core gameplay mechanics. We even had the uttered (Regretful) indication of timeline "er we hope to..er get this out by the end of next year...don't hold me to that". Oh we will Chris, we will ;-) but at least we know when *they* think they will have a build containing all of the core 4.0 functionality and we'll get a pretty clear indication of how far behind they really are over the next year.

You should improve your reading skills, they dont say that there is no game.
When some fundamentals like frikking AI logic is missing and incomplete in SINGLE PLAYER GAME, then there's NO GAME. You can have incredible loads of art assets. If they don't work together, there is NO GAME.
