The Star Citizen Thread v5

I like seeing posts like yours. The fact that there is people who think the presentation was fake, is a clear sign that it was so awesome and mind-blowing that everyone was amazed by the tech shown there to the point that some people think it can't be real.

I think it's more like when you see someone with an obvious hairpiece.

You think "that's an obvious hairpiece".

I am not sure why CiG is getting so much flak around here, but then again I am not a backer and only slightly involved in following the project. That planetary tech demo looked awesome to me.

I wish it was that easy to impress me. Life would be much more full of joy (between bouts of disappointments which I learn nothing from).

Maybe you are not aware of this, but i'll tell you something you may not know: The citizencon demo was a demo intended to showcase the planetary tech v2. It wasn't intended to showcase the AI, it wasn't intended to showcase scripting... it was intended to showcase the planetary tech v2 only. And that's it.
We are talking about the planetary tech v2 demo, and you're saying that it's pretty bad because other than the planetary tech v2, everything else was bland.
An analogy of this would be that CIG is showing you a painting and you're saying it's crap because the frame is ugly. Dude, it's not about the frame, it's about the painting.

IIRC, we were told "Wait for CitizenCon, all you naysayers will be silenced!" or something similar.
Maybe you are not aware of this, but I for one would have been overjoyed if that were the case, but it's not. CitizenCon - FAIL!

Hmmm tiny target area of planet not obscured by cloud. Bad pop in of trees and terrain features. Lack of articulation of landing gear of ship. Poor animation into and out of driver seat. Vehicle wheels don't touch the planet. Npc walking on air above crashed ship... and this was shown because the sq42 demo wasn't good enough...

Why's that exactly?

Pick the one which fits your post best: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_fallacies#Formal_fallacies

Youre comparing a game demo which is proven to have been running real time in engine (we even know the specs of the PC running it), with a book from a guy which has a highly dubious reputation. You reduce them to the same based on the fact that in both cases someone thinks the book/the demo is fake. And you use the most likely fake book to imply that the demo is equally fake. You reduce it to "the book is fake, so the demo must be fake" This is a clear fallacy, and you already knew that when you posted it.
Why do you need to resort to using fallacies to be able to sustain an argument?

That's the thing Hi-Ban. It didn't showcase planet tech. It didn't show anything that would be impressive or even interesting to anyone who played games in the last decade. There was absolutely nothing interesting in there in terms of scenery generation. It was good enough textures with good enough lighting. Everything looked as you would expect from cryengine. Any high budget game made on that engine more or less looks like that.

My mind has been totally blown by the originality of it all as well.
Dune Sandworms!
Star Wars Tusken Raiders!
Floating not at all connected to the ground SRV's!
Weird looping at the end when the sandworm "spits" at the camera!    ?
Strange out of place snowy mountain scenes popped up throughout the demo! eh?
The incredibly low orbit space station strategically placed for that so not on rails fly by!
I could go on with more awesome, so much awesome, too much awesome this mere mortal cannot describe!

I believe!!!! The RAPTURE!!!!!
10/10 Mr Roberts!!!!

In his defense, I admit that, as far as I remember, he didn't say the Citizen Con of what year... and here you learned how the misleading tactics of RSI and his fans usually works ;).

But then why show such a limited part of the planet tech? Instead, they went to tried and true marketing moves by shooting up some baddies. YAH, HERO PROPHECY FTW

They zoomed past like 3 biomes, not slowing for detail...except for some trees which had pop-in and an unfortunately low number of unique models. I would have rather they take the buggy and try to bust through some rough terrain, interacting with multiple weather systems. Most of what got the camera focus was a hand-crafted area made just for the demo.

Or they could have done like 3 or 4 shorter videos showing the variety and fidelity they have achieved with multiple parts of the technology...if the tech is there, show it. Instead we got more of CR trying to play movie director.

It's Opening Day of post CitCON Mental Gymnastics. Will the SC defenders take home the gold? It's looking promising!

Well you know E3 wasnt important they rather concentrated on the more important GamesCon and the best stuff they wanted to show at CitizenCon...thats where all the important stuff will be shown!
We all heard that from atleast a dozen of Citizen talking away their fear and doubt in good faith because E3 was canceld by CIG/RSI.

CitizenCon was even so good that they started the polaris sales before the show. So that people could make a better educated purchase with new money pumping into the development rather just melting stuff and used old money to get one.
But they were confident enough to show the Polaris-Ad at CitizenCon. You know that one that explains to you that in future there will be more military grade ships available..so buy more war bonds. Just ignore the small     storm that happened when the exclusive military grade ships has been hinted to be sold and buyable with real money and not a achievment.

Oh and dont forget Spectrum the new Spacebook "for the community" how can we forget it was a 20min presentation the only good thing about it is that it will include FINALLY a patcher for the game that doesnt force you to download EVERYTHING again and again...after 2 years since Arena Commander and they finally thinking about cutting traffic costs and being user friendly, but when its done unknown.

The SQ42 presentation was marvelous those slides were amazing so detailed so much fidelity and the immersion was real, the mocap so real and when they sho....nothing.
The Starmarine showcase the same, something trully outstanding will await us this yea....wait...
Then that amazing roadmap for 3.0 and beyond finally trying to implement some form of basic gameplay. Even showcased some of its future fea.... wait they didnt..i thought it was about to go out this year? Didnt they had a entire liveshow at Gamescom why couldnt they show more at CitizenCon?! I mean its in the game isnt it...so how hard is it to start a steam with some dudes playing...i hear on twitch its common to do such a thing.

Then the planetary tech...nice planet no doubt but everything around it was so misguided and had nothing to do with star citizen in the slightest, it didnt look like star citizen it didnt had the feel of star citizen...if looked like crysis level with SC assets in. The gun on the rover not being used and the vehicle floating above ground should tell you how much worth the presentation was behind the eye candy...dont get me started on the sandworm, tuskan raiders, or that pointless sandstorm.

I don't understand why showing a big sandworm creature in a proof of concept video is a dig at another game that showed a big sandworm creature in a proof of concept video.

This is simply setting themselves up for the same fall. It would be impressive if they delivered the sandworm in the product.

If it's a jab at NMS it's somewhat hypocritical isn't it?

The list of things that have been showcased that haven't appeared in any playable version of the game is getting quite long now. Helmet flips and launching from the hangar into space, planetary landing at the community hub with crowds of NPCs, that Ender's game thing nobody wanted, star marine , that nyx landing zone thing etc. wouldn't it be better to demonstrate ability to deliver on things you showcase rather than making fun of other developers that don't deliver on the things they showcase?

I'd like to see FD make a subtle jab at SC by implemented helmet flip before they do rofl

Derek, is your blog post about SC Alpha 3.0 demo postponded?

I was never writing a blog about it. I just finished a short post about it, which I will be posting later today. It's similar to my GamesCom2016 write-up, but a bit longer.

I have two completely unrelated blogs in the works. One about key people in the dev team, and the other that delves into the funding chart, backer numbers etc. That second blog is now undergoing some revisions/additions to take into account the massive info dump that landed in my lap last week, and which I posted about on Twitter.

Ok, sorry then I misunderstood then. Just curious how story unfolds. Thanks for info.

I mean even if they don´t have any of their own creativity and if CR really insist to implement giant worm in SC they could just look around in our nature and copy for example this real monster........

Cool....and yet really horrifying.......

Everything is a copy from somewhere, I posted this a few pages back.

WoW was already inspired by these creatures. See spoiler.

I'm really not bothered by them copying anything, I am bothered by them pretending they're the first to slice bread though.
