I suppose the other way to look at it was that FDev were much better at specifying what would definitely NOT be in the v1.0 release :) I can imagine it was all chaos and post-its on whiteboards

so whats in the planets v2 that wasnt in gamescom demo?
Where is the progress?

I think it's pretty obvious:

They failed to communicate it prior 1.0 release anyway and that caused a bit overblown expectations - granted, they didn't have community manager back then, so it was all understandable. Them pushing out updates and regularly informing us helped to contain early disappointment.

Improved ground textures and various prop assets?
Thats a thing they cant deliver with 3.0?

You call that progress?

The progress is the ability for the game artists to create that kind of detailed content at a planetary scale in a quick way.
It is indeed a big progress.

Haha :)

Don't forget the NMS look with the other planet hanging in the sky - it's important. Plus sand planets, and now with worms because folk wanted that.

The textures were lovey though.

ps. nope we didn't see that, we just saw a little map-sized patch.

Oh my sweet summer child

Well, at least they were able to provide a release date and a follow-up roadmap, and have been able to pretty much stick to that. You know, release stuff in approximately the correct decade and such hippie stuff. And the few occassions they had a few months delay, they didnt introduce that by first asking $750 for non-existent ships with non-existent gameplay in a non-existent universe.

Maybe Pecisk phrased it poorly. I think what he means is not that they had everything planned out, but rather that they actually had a plan and did their job. :)

Probably they had a some issues at the very last moment before the show (that's why the delay)
but something was ''free to be showed''.and so they did it, without saying it.
Chris said nothing on it, but i am pretty sure it's so.

Doubtful. They (the leads of the project/marketing/pr group) just verified that wouldn't be able to make too much smoke and mirrors demos/shows to feed all shows to come and encouraging more pledges with that... and decided to let the "best" for the next big sales event.

They obviously will have more time to make it even better, putting even more smokes and mirrors inside. Meanwhile, they let press and public jumping in their throats, just as expected (we have David Swofford there, he know the drill), but then like a Phoenix, just like Roberts love to make (his development sounding like a Hollywood plot, with twists and surprises, and the hero saving the day in the last minute), when everyone was losing hope, thought that "they were now dead", that the whales would go against them, they bring the awesome smoke and mirrors Squadron 42 trailer/video/tech demo, to "prove progress" and "shut up the naysayers", right on time for a big sales event that have much more offers than just one Polaris.

The big end-of-year twist that will renew the faith of the whales for some months, until they have more smoke and mirrors to show. Everyone (or at least most of the whales desperately in need of some food to keep the denial and never admitting that are been conned) will forget that were deceived along the entire year about a release of Squadron 42 or many other features this year and were told, just in the last minute. It has been happening since 2013. I am impressed that you guys did not notice and continue with this naive idea that Roberts is, basically, a . He is not.

to "prove progress" and "shut up the naysayers"

Oh, they already shut up the naysayers with the editor presentation. You know, what we saw in the editor, people claimed "it can't be done". Well, it's been done now.
Of course, there are still going to be people who close their eyes, put their fingers on their ears and sing "lalalala i can't hear anything", but those are an insignificant minority.

It doesn't matter if it's in the game. If it's in the dream, it's as good as being in the game!

We just don't understand dream development - buy a Polaris!

I am sorry, but you are mistaken. They only will prove that "can be done" in the moment that what they demonstrate works on people's machine. And here's the thing. It's not just that that must work. It's everything. It's that, plus all other features that were promised, in a MMO scenario for "millions" to play. That is what was claimed that can't be done. Don't be silly. The only one "closing their eyes" to the reality here is you.

Who are these people saying "It can't be done" ?

I don't see any of those posts here, I see "It's a (Citizen) con", "A mismanaged project", "Doomed to fail", "Underwhelming" etc etc, I don't see "This can't be done". I swear that those are the marketing words of Croberts ilk. "Developers say this can't be done (click here to read more!)"

You know this wont be a dumbed down Xbox game, right? People want maximum eye candy. They wont dumb down the game so it runs on a poor i3 with 4 gigs of RAM and a 2 gigs GPU.
So no, i'm not mistaken.

I'm pretty sure more than one has bought a Polaris after constantly reading that on this thread. Thanks for helping CIG, every little bit of help is much appreciated. [up]

Of course! If every SC fan bought a Polaris - the game would be out yesterday! Buy a Polaris!

Do i have CIG toolset?
UTnDSna.png

created under 5 mins. Solution is scalable for biomes painting since its mostly material applied to a height map. only need to place some scenery using scenery brush in ue4 editor and i too could do citizencon demo.

You are basically saying that they created a cry engine editor in this citizencon.
Thats the progress they have made.
