The Star Citizen Thread v5

*Snip*Anyway, all this is because the citizencon "planets v2" demo was all about showcasing the graphics and scale of it, people already knew that before citizencon. *Snip*

Could you please provide a source or sources for this? Cause as far as I know no one had a clue what was going to happen at Citizencon. The going theory was it was going to be all about the "soon" to be released SQ42 or them releasing 2.6 to the avacado's.

Not them zooming over a quarter of a planet and having really bad graphical glitches all over the place. It was embarrassing to watch.

You just don't understand Citizencon development. There was more high fidelity, immersive, quality gameplay in those trailers than in many already-released AAA titles.

Just listening the the Planet Coaster stream that's on at the moment. Dev on the stream said said that there's no mocap in it*, all the animation was done by 6 people and if you played it all back-to-back it would take over 2.5 hours to play it all.

*that confirms btw that the mocap jobs listed on the Frontier website some time ago were most certainly ED related.

Or planet safari for animals...

I am in my low 30s, thanks. But anyway, i'll explain you what is all this about.

I don't put a lot of weight on graphics, but i admit graphics are important in a game which aims to push the limits of PC gaming.
Anyway, all this is because the citizencon "planets v2" demo was all about showcasing the graphics and scale of it, people already knew that before citizencon. But people here started criticising that the demo had scripted events, which was totally unrelated to what the demo was all about, and anyway they should already know the AI stuff is not done yet.
Then when they were explained that the planets v2 demo was all about the graphics and scale and nothing about gameplay, they suddenly went like "bah, those graphics are crap" "Nothing impressive here" "dated graphics" etc...
You see a pattern here?

After a discussion in which they tried to compare the graphics of SC with those of ED to make SC look graphically worse and failed hard on their attempt, then they suddenly all turned to criticise the sandworm and "how unoriginal it is" "plagiarism" etc...
You see the pattern again?

No matter what, always criticise SC, everything about SC must be bad. If CIG do something good, they must always make it look bad. If they do something wrong, they must make it look like a crime. If they don't do anything wrong, then they must make up something bad. This, ad infinitum.

With all my respect to this guys, but after almost 1500 pages of the same stuff repeated over and over and over, it's starting to get a bit tiresome.

Now you might question yourself if you should have asked other people about their age instead, right?

Apologies for the condescending age reference. I have seen a high priority of graphical fidelity in gamers who are under 22. You were really hammering on graphics well ahead of established or even concepted gameplay...makes little sense to me.

You could always leave if you don't like here. It's been explained why it may feel repetitive in here and much of that has to do with things you yourself say.

Until CR starts to show real meaningful progress in the game he has pre sold many of us I think it's fair for us to not praise everything he says to the 9th degree.

I want the game to succeed but I feel the possibility of that is floundering under the msssive workload still ahead.

i can't bring up concerns over at RSI or Reddit without having crap flung at me so I don't go there. Sometimes drop a compliment or two when I feel one is warranted. New ATV and tv content has improved in production quality for example.

Anyway I do apologize for the implied age tone of my comment.

Not everything about SC is bad..you are wrong in labelling this community with that. It's not an absolute.:eek:nce they turn it around convincingly people will respond to it. I will for sure; but show me and let me play it first. I cant stand the FM, controls, I'm not won over by the graphics ...the new hornet design looks way better, I'm not convinced they will get cap shops people bought working for the PU..a team least another 18-24 months for SC as advertisers...12-14 for Sq 42.

I was a huge fan of CR back in 2012, but over the years repeated mistakes, misrepresenting the product, terrible expectation management, CS blunders, escapist article rants, holiday live stream where he plays his own game, etc has made me question why I gave him a cent.

He can redeem himself in my eyes but he's nowhere near that yet.

This close from pulling a refund as well. This close.

I did find the FPS looked better, but I genuinely was not impressed by that demo. Not because of fakery or whatever you interpret the same old repetitive comments. I just wasn't impressed. Probably because SQ42 was a no show and I was hoping to see something with that...Gamescom gave me their planetary tech..:I didnt need to see a slightly modified version of that. I was really looking forward to 42 stuff.

This. Basically, if you keep promising stuff for years and never deliver any of it, the cycle does kinda get repetitive. And if people want to come here and insist its all super fidelicious, the best game ever, sure to succeed at everything and all that stuff you'll get the same responses. I know I'll change my tone if CIG manages to deliver anything that is close to the release quality of, say, X:Rebirth. [rolleyes]

it's all about the gameplay, I'm convinced they can create pretty 3D objects, I'm not convinced with their gameplay. Especially their ship FM/controls. After all THIS time I'm still not liking what I'm seeing in terms of how the game plays, feels or interacts.

Just my opinion, but I've never not enjoyed a space sim (except battlefield 3000 when it first launched (no offense DS). The fact that SC is missing the mark for me is a huge mystery...but outside of buying ships and what if imaginary scenarios I don't have much to hold onto right now.

i have pride where it counts (work ethic, family values, moral integrity) I'm fine admitting I'm wrong and will if SC legitimately impresses me. Going to have to do a lot more than it has done at this point to get me there however.

Nice posts, Asylum. I agree with many of your sentiments. I'm a fan of CIG, as people in this thread know, but I too am finding my patience is thinning as of late. They really needed to show significant progress on SQ42 and they did not. They've made a lot of mistakes for sure. The Gamescom demo was really awesome, but this last one..... ehhhh..... Pretty for sure, but 'off' in a lot of respects. Derivative sandworm, basic AI, unrepresentative gameplay to the final product I'm sure, glitches, etc.

I've been sold on CR's 'dream' since 2012, and happily so. If he can pull it off I'll be a happy camper. However, as you say we need to see 'meaningful progress'.

But Jenner - they made the Polaris! That is "meaningful progress" surely? It's progress means so much to them that they built a whole showcase video about it - even though specifications are not finalised, it's not in the game, nobody really knows it's purpose, it's $750, and you'll need a small army of people to use one, but it's part of the "dream!" ;)

Yes, the concept artists have great leaps in progress, for sure.

People still falling out of the turrets, I see...

Yeah.

It's aggravating, too, because I see the great potential. I just played a bit of SC, doing some ICC and Comm Array missions, and they're really fun. However, I had loads of bugs to deal with and bad performance. It's been that way for years. Sabre was really fun to fly, though, and the dynamic music is something I wish ED had.

Well yeah..I like to fly in the asteroid field but the FM are just bad especially if you need to do some dogfighting.....anyway you can improve your performance a lot if you do folowing:
Go in your folder:Cloud imperium games/Star Citizen/public
then create user.cfg file and copy/paste these files in it:

r_motionblur = 0
g_radialblur = 0
sys_MaxFps = 60
r_FullscreenWindow = 1

e_ShadowsMaxTexRes = 256
r_ChromaticAbberation = 0
r_sharpening = 0
r_HDRBrightLevel = 0
r_HDRBloomRatio = 0
r_SSReflections = 0
r_SSAO = 0
r_ssdo = 0
r_Gamma = 1.2
r_TexMinAnisotropy = 8
r_TexMaxAnisotropy = 8
r_ColorGrading = 0
r_SSReflections = 0
r_FogShadows = 0
r_HDRGrainAmount = 0
cl_fov = 70
r_DepthOfField = 0
hud_bobHud = 0
e_ParticlesShadows = 0

Save and run the game...performance gain is significant+ you will loose the blur effects that I find very annoying anyway....GL...

If that's true, it is surely CIG moving to Brno, not the employees? What studio can just tell their employees they have to move to another nation? I mean, even if they gave the option to them, I doubt many would just take it, unless their personal bonds are more to the project and work than family etc..
