I felt also that the Road to Citcon thing didn't achieve what they set out to do with it. The over riding things I felt on seeing that was 2 things:

1. Stressed over worked answer confused developers at the coal face.

2. Pouty Genuine Roberts pouting and grimacing when things weren't working like he wanted.

Certainly didn't make me think about the initial Citcon thing in a different light.

I am not making this up. This is what those guys now think:

I wonder if that is what he is trying to do now at the Elite Dangerous forums. Trying to worm him way into their management, become some sort of adviser and use that as a stepping stone.... I think he is trying to find a way into becoming someone important at Frontier and the fact that the management at Frontier isn't removing him means they may be falling for his tricks.

Apple innovated putting things together and make them work as whole experience. That is no small feat and thus they should be commended for that. They however didn't "innovate" lot of things they claimed to do. Funny is how Apple taunted to be smartphone first innovator, while for example ignoring lot of PC standards which were actually driven by Apple (like USB or Firewire).

I see it as an ILM kind of deal. Nothing they did was actually any new — they just did it “production savvy”, i.e. something that was actually useful on a large scale for something more than a highly specialised one-off thing. Jobs did very similar things: take an idea, make it work as an actual product. That didn't stop ILM from being the effects company for close to 40 years now, or Apple from speeding up development of a lot of the scifi tech gadgets we now take for granted.

Now, as to where the innovation is — the idea or the making the idea work on a large scale — that's something that will go back and forth over a decade or fifty. :D

Well I just checked FD's jobs page and there doesn't appear to be any vacancy for an Internet Warlord.

So I'm gonna go out on a limb and say reddit got this one wrong!
Also, I don't quite see someone who's most famous for not being able to work for anyone other than himself as a good fit for FDev. :D

I can totally see it happen:

DB: Derek?
DS: Yeah?
DB: I've seen you post on our forums, would you like to take over development of our game?
DS: Sure, I've got nothing to do anyway.

This is a Baldrick-level of cunning!

Warlord isn't a traditionally advertised vacancy. You are expected to show initiative by arriving for the interview at a time that takes the interview panel totally by surprise, or you can have your horde slowly surround the panel making no attempt at stealth because of overwhelming numbers. You then catapult a few prisoners over the battlements and issue a variety of blood curdling threats and impossible demands. You then need to lead your men over the walls and slaughter all opposition irrespective of the panels reaction to your demands. The panels livestock can be eaten or stampeded as the position is now an equal opportunities one for vegetarians.

Those are the core competencies, familiarity with Microsoft excel a clean drivers license and an excellent telephone manner are also desirable.

I think ED is right on track, maybe there is a position open at CIG? I heard they need a new Internet Warlord as the old one is busy doing mocap!

Yep - need a lot of polishing because all the butt kicking takes the shine off them.

Which guys? He's got 2 upvotes.

You're talking , mate.

Give it time, the upvotes will come, and while you're at it have a quick look at that posters normal comments to gain some perspective. :)

On topic, is SC out yet? I want to do battle against the sand people who scare easily, but return and in greater numbers in a dessert while riding an Arakis sand worm.

Deranged. Just deranged.

Wow - I never noticed that this is an ENTIRE Reddit sub devoted to follow and discuss every word DS says! (I must surf the interweb more and pay attention...)

It must be nice to have such a devoted following :)
