I found a youtube vid where you watch a CGI Titanic sink in real time:

Which should be off-topic, but somehow, it's not...

Wow. I'm not sure what's more scary - that they asked the guy to watch the video (I'm seeing images of people being strapped to chairs with toothpicks keeping their eyes open) or that they thought that terrible video would make a difference.

If anything that video convinced me of the opposite. I fail to see how it's a good thing that they're wasting time and money on making demos/video reels that in the end (in case of SQ42) no-one even got to see. At least that's the message I got from watching that video; ever since seeing it, I've been doubting whether to request a refund or not.

Likewise.

The video just seemed like a case of crocodile tears, "You guys are all being so mean about what we said we would show, but didn't. Look how hard we worked on all the things we didn't show and how manic things got when we tried to lash something together."

How that is meant to be informative, reassuring or praiseworthy beats me.

For some strange reason CIG runs on this platform that "we exactly don't know how to make game, but we are making good looking shinies, and we are trying really hard, so trust us". And what's most interesting is that at this point I feel if there would be no CR, but just those talented guys (there are quite a list of successful entities run by self employed guys), there would be at least actual game - not perfect, but good looking, improving all the time. But there's CR, who comparing to everyone else in project clearly doesn't know what he *exactly* wants - while being a guy who calls shots. At times it is just obvious that for him this is huge ego stroke and nothing else.

I don't get projects engaging in such relationship with it's stakeholders...it is certainly not very healthy and manipulative.

They should just ditch chris roberts. Or better yet, get a prototype done on the side and then split off with their own Kickstarter.

If someone told me in 2012 that after 4 years and $130M we'll have a high-fidelity, high-poly, mocapped guy mopping the floor, but not basic controller parity or enjoyable flight model, I'd call them crazy!

My suspicion is that Chris knows exactly what he wants, when he wants it.

Now, maybe he can clearly describe what he wants or maybe he can't, but either way I doubt his proposal goes through change control, design review and then design approval boards, with the associated high and low design documents being revised, re-reviewed with new/revised plans and costing produced, that would need further approval prior to starting work - just like you would have to do in a big company with proper (ITIL) financial governance. I may be wrong here of course, and they may have the 'best damn change control processes and procedures ever'. Maybe.

Oddly, I don't even think the above is 'the' problem. The bigger problem reportedly seems to be that 'what Chris wants' changes. So even if his undoubtedly talented teams give him what he asked for (aka used to want), it's now not 'what Chris wants'. And they're back to square one with the associated impact on motivation. One can't help but feel sorry for the devs tbh.

I used to work for a boss called (coincidentally) Chris, who worked in this exact way. The only way to deal with him was after each such conversation to send him an email 'just to confirm' what had just changed, so that there was a paper-trail covering both me and my team. I found a new role after a few months of trying (and failing) to work with him. A few months later he left the company.

Overall I feel quite sorry for the backers as well as the devs, as both are being lead a merry dance. I looked at SC when announced, remembered the history of the earlier games, and decided to keep all my pennies in my pockets. #goodcall

I turned all my ships back into credits a long time back. The more I think about SC the more I'm tempted to request a refund. Its not so much the continual asking for money, its the playerbase. I was wanting to be a trader/hauler/explorer in SC. It just doesn't seem like its going to be a nice environment to play in.

Perhaps it will settle as the game gets released onwards, but as it is now, its just not worth going into it.

I'm in two minds on this now, which is confusing to say the least. I have trouble with just the one mind......

Not trying to influence you one way or the other m8 as nobody knows the true state of SC progress or finances behind the scenes, but if you spent a lot and are considering a refund I wouldn't wait too long as the longer you wait the less likely you are to get it especially if funding slows down, you can always refund and repledge for the base package if you have strong doubts about the game. At the end of the day you have to look after number 1 in this life unless you have money to burn.

hey i back SC ages ago, but they only had hangar module at the time. Is it worth spending hours downloading again? I have zero confidence in the team as they just seem to be flopping about in the dark with this game.

I'm working on it :D

Kickstarter funds are fading as the wait goes on
And Alpha 3 is drawing near
Backers will all be much older
The game's not here!

I watch the Idris fly against against a greybox sky
And one by one they refactor
I wish I was flying one of them
The game's not here!

Like a used-car salesman you came to fleece me
Like underpants in the breeze you flew away....

Through Monaco's waves we used to sail our way
You always loved free money
Those backers wallets all lie empty now
The game's not here!

A gentle refund request because of all the lies
As if to put this all behind
My life will never be as a Star Citizen
The game's not here!

In CoD it takes two people to clean a floor, and they don't even get a robo-mop and lulzbucket.

Of course they don't need a lulzbucket, because it's a fun space game which actually exists.

Well, we don't need to think too hard about where CIG's "mopping floor" and "crouched down working on floor detail" animations were stolen from inspired by.
