The Star Citizen Thread v5

I'm working on it :D

Kickstarter funds are fading as the wait goes on
And Alpha 3 is drawing near
Backers will all be much older
The game's not here!

I watch the Idris fly against against a greybox sky
And one by one they refactor
I wish I was flying one of them
The game's not here!

Like a used-car salesman you came to fleece me
Like underpants in the breeze you flew away....

Through Monaco's waves we used to sail our way
You always loved free money
Those backers wallets all lie empty now
The game's not here!

A gentle refund request because of all the lies
As if to put this all behind
My life will never be as a Star Citizen
The game's not here!

Please mods - if there are to be no more songs or they are off-topic just please delete.

Beautiful. I'm off to YouTube for the gee-tar chords.

V rep only I'm sorry.[up]

Are they still developing a game? I thought they moved over to be the #1 supplier of mocapped mobs...

They have become the leading supplier of high quality, expensive jpegs. :D

I've been reading Derek's blogs. Nice to get an insight into game development in general.
I think CIG have a desire to complete the game but the leadership is not there. Hopefully FDev can take many notes from this saga and not do it the croberts way.

And please, FDev, no lulzmoppers!

I held off for a long time on SC having read a lot about the development cycle of Freelancer and the insight into the machinations of CR. I finally decided to take the plunge a couple of months ago. I'm not particularly impressed with what's there after nearly 5 years of development. There's very little game and what game there is appears to be a laggy, bug riddled mess tbh.

I believe that what's happening with SC and NMS will change the face of game development from a legal standpoint at least.

I turned all my ships back into credits a long time back. The more I think about SC the more I'm tempted to request a refund. Its not so much the continual asking for money, its the playerbase. I was wanting to be a trader/hauler/explorer in SC. It just doesn't seem like its going to be a nice environment to play in.

Perhaps it will settle as the game gets released onwards, but as it is now, its just not worth going into it.

I'm in two minds on this now, which is confusing to say the least. I have trouble with just the one mind......

Unless you have some special reward that is important to you, you lose nothing with a refund. If it works out you can just re-buy, otherwise no damage done. I would forget about exploration btw, according to the new roadmap there will not be a 2nd star system in 2017 at all. It may take many, many years for them to create the basic space that allows for exploration. So when that is your thing I suggest you stick to NMS/ED.

hey i back SC ages ago, but they only had hangar module at the time. Is it worth spending hours downloading again? I have zero confidence in the team as they just seem to be flopping about in the dark with this game.

Bear in mind they have a new ToS now, which you will have to accept if you install the game. The problem is, once you accept it, you now lose any possibility to request a refund.

I have to admit though, the solar system they will have (if they do finish it) looks amazing from where I stand. I noticed something in ED, is it that I prefer to actually explore a planet in detail then go from one to another. Sadly planets in ED are a bit boring right now, and hyperspace jumps and supercruise are a bit of a killer because my time is limited.

If SC can bring really exotic, dynamic and detailed worlds (which it seems they are in the process of doing), it would be really interesting to me.

Another thing. IMO Elite should not have used PG for bases on planets. Bases should be rare, because right now they do not feel special at all. I do not feel attached to these worlds, because there are so many of them, and they don't have personnalities.

ED does nail the giant, isolated & mysterious feeling of space though.

Sorry but that's not true.

From the new TOS:
RSI agrees to use its good faith business efforts to deliver to you the pledge items and the Game on or before the estimated delivery date communicated to you on the Website. However, you acknowledge and agree that delivery as of such date is not a firm promise and may be extended by RSI since unforeseen events may extend the development and/or production time. Accordingly, you agree that any unearned portion of your Pledge shall not be refundable until and unless RSI has ceased development and failed to deliver the relevant pledge items and/or the Game to you. (Pledges made under previous Terms of Services continue to be governed by the corresponding clause of the Terms of Services, or of the Commercial Terms, as applicable, which were in effect at the time of making the Pledge).

This is a good post by beer but because reddit hates him it's been down cited to oblivion. Responses that don't agree either just insult him or say something along the lines of "you shouldn't take Chris seriously!" As if that's actually a defence.

This is why I have no sympathy for the fanbase. They condone death threats against those who get refunds. They attack people like jeffrey McArthur for voicing his opinions on Star Citizen.

So now they're getting disillusioned? I'm over here playing the world's smallest violin

In other words you can ask for your money back, but only after they've spent it.

:D

They have certainly ceased to develop and failed to deliver some of these so far :D

The section you highlighted in the new ToS revision only applies to pre-existing backers; not new backers. So anyone who pledged under the previous ToS, is covered by that version but ONLY in so much as it pertains to THIS clause that you excerpted. In other words, if you backed under the OLD version, you are NOT bound by the NEW version but only as far as THIS section/clause is concerned.

Which if it ever comes, will turn out to be modelled on an USB-drive-shaped starship....

It'll probably also feature Stealth technology - Genuine Roberts will say they have sent them out, but nothing ever appears :D

It took around a month for a tshirt to arrive from China, even though I am positive CIG had stated that all their items were to be produced in the USA.

To be fair - it's not a bad quality shirt, and the GF loves it :D
