The Star Citizen Thread v5

Personally I think it's more a case of being unaware of it than being OK with it. Remember when CR answered the escapist with a huge ill-conceived rant about how Derek Smart is a very nasty man indeed even though the Escapist never mentioned him, and all the subsequent "you are Durpek Slurm" idiocy directed at anyone saying such hugely controversial things as "what's the release date now".

Blaming Derek was very dumb and unprofessional but it worked to an extent, anyone raising a concern was a DS alt hell bent on trolling. So a lot of people ignored the huge legitimate red-flags Derek (and others) were raising.

If you want to direct attention away from real problems unite everyone against a common foe, (non Godwin's law example) look at Brexit 20-30 years of the tabloid press and the government blaming immigrants/EU for everything all the time then have a referendum on EU membership. The government were taken totally by surprise at the efficacy of their evasive scapegoating hate-campaign. Hence the total lack of preparedness for the result of the vote, they knew it was all just negative propaganda so they never thought people would be stupid enough to go for it. An absolute triumph of spin over reality.

That actually makes a depressing amount of sense. :(

Well, CIG openly ran several pyramid like schemes during their KS and after that - they had "get your friends backing SC and get that and that" scheme if I remember, ok for finished product, not so ok for crowdfunded game not released yet imho. Then of course grey market. With no grey market I just don't see how CIG will keep pushing those numbers.

If CIG has announced those ships as nonrefundable that means they are preparing for serious legal woes due of massive number of people refunding stuff or something even worse.

This guy has $6000 "invested" in this farce.

It has occured to me... do refunds come in dollars if you pledged from the UK?

Might actually have been a good investment for some brits if they can get a refund now given that the pound has collapsed since where it was in 2012

Better tham leaving it the bank anyway.....

I'm reading between the lines here. Are you saying that the whole Brexit fiasco was started so that some Star Citizen backers could make a tasty profit?

We need Jenner to pop in and tell us it's definitely not a conspiracy so we can confirm that it's true.

One of the reasons we see less shilling is the collapse of gray market trading in progress now. We have hit peak jpeg.
Remember when one of the critics of the project was attacked with the words "you are hurting my bottom line"? Now that CIG have semi-distanced themselves from third party sales and clarified they see them all as "gifts" with no refundability, these goods are devalued and only the really stupid customers with money burning in their pockets buy them.

It is now simply not worth it to come to forums, create fake accounts, nurture them for days and then spread the word about how awesome the game will be.

Yep exactly that....those "GREYS" that are smarter already sold all their stock of ships and now they will watch trainwreck from the safe distance......Well there is maybe still a chance that CIG will deliver something at the end but now seems very clear that this game is not even close what 99% of ppl. expected it to be back when they pledge for it.......

I have no idea why these guys are now all of a sudden acting as if ANY of this is new. Regardless of what I've said in my blogs, posts etc, the warning signs were there all along.

See the thing is that for a long time we've all been saying that betting on SQ42 is what's going to be the last straw. Most whales didn't back for SQ42, which basically was just a peripheral project. Then Chris and Sandi decided to use it to buy their way back into Hollywood, even as they squandered away millions on it.

Engine issues aside, seeing as the tech can't even run a single-player game - which should be shocking enough. When I wrote this missive ahead of CitizenCon about the engine, the fact that the event was just going to be more smoke & mirrors, the hardcore laughed, and some skeptics just discarded it. Well, as we came to find out, that's precisely what happened: smoke & mirrors.

In my latest blog, Shattered Dreams, I again said that if they were having engine difficulties, that it's bound to also affect SQ42. In fact, I said:

While others have taken it apart (1, 2), the glaring issues* are that things like AI, pathfinding, proper vehicular dynamics/physics, atmospheric conditions – or even the expansive planet promised, are just missing. So, if the tech demo showing the new terrain tech is missing such fundamental building blocks of the game, all of a sudden it makes sense that both Star Citizen and Squadron 42 (which uses the same engines and tech) are so far behind in development.

So it stands to reason that if they can't even get 2.6 out this year as promised, let alone 3.0 (<---- lmao, I called that one the minute he uttered it), that they're having some very serious technical issues. I don't even think that anything less than a playble 2.6/3.0 or SQ42 in a live stream, is going to quash dissent. They're at the cusp now whereby the skepticism is at an all time high and nothing short of tangible delivery is going to curb it.

When all is said and done, despite what some fringe think of me, I have made a career out of developing massive games. I have extensive knowledge in all forms of game design & engineering. Which is why once I saw Vision 2.0 was the end goal, I realized that the project was because they simply couldn't do it with that base line engine. Not to mention the fact that they don't have ANYONE in the team who has ANY experience building MASSIVE games; let alone MASSIVE SPACE GAMES WITH FPS.

Now now Mr Smart, calm down.

You just don't understand the power of spindly space ships with random sticky-out parts, underpants, sandwormies, or wavey hands.

Genuine Roberts is going to deliver the best Space Game ever imagined, and he's going to deliver it in 2016 - just like he promised to deliver it in 2014.

Indeed - why else would they hate you commenting so much. Whatever anyone's actual opinion of the end result of your games you've done this from end to end in an intimate fashion, not as some cog in the wheel or distant oversight and as such there's no way they can dismiss you with "you just don't understand XXX"

I suspect if there's no livestream of SM soon as a minimum there may be a revolt.... arguable if that'll do from the tone lately.

Some are even making excuses as to why the thread is hidden. Daylight saving bug? LOL!

The thread is languishing on the second page with the time of the last post being reported as 11:56AM when of course there are newer ones.

A bug or mod-meddling madness?
