The Star Citizen Thread v5

Indeed, the current culture of ineptitude, failure and contempt for their customers is clearly preferable.

In a curious way, it actually is for some. As long as CIG fail to deliver a product, the 'citizens' can concoct impossible fantasies about the BDSSE. Reality (if and when it comes) is going to disappoint an awful lot of people.

Nothing's gonna change folks, until the situation gets serious enough for CIG to intervene.
I'm pretty sure they're currently preparing something for damage control in one of the next AtV's, Letter from the chairman, etc.
You know what happens next.
People calm down again, 2.6 gets announced, people get satisfied and hyped again, ship sales continue, and the circle continues...

'Coup'? Er, no. A spat over a website of dubious merit. Saw the reddit threads, couldn't figure out exactly who did what. Decided I didn't care. No reason to take the 'citizens' over-inflated ideas about the significance of this spaceship-shooter fansite at all seriously.

I'd bet that this year's anniversary sale will be as successful or better than last year's one, in spite of shenanigans of last two weeks.

Did they say this was a coup d'etat? Is this for real? Am I actually living in this world?

Everyone wants a term to misuse. CIG loves refactoring things, there was that one guy who claimed Derek digitally sexually assaulted him because SA photoshopped a picture (this still exists only on the mere fringes of my comprehension), and now there's this?

Oh look out guys. INN was nearly run by a bloody junta

Well, coup d'agence marketing doesn't have quite the same ring to it. And a CEO of such a firm would certainly understand the value of using the proper words to spin these things correctly (or improper, when the situation calls for it).

The "Is the Pledge Being Broken?" thread on the RSI official forum is now edging towards a Trump's-winning-margin in favour of "no, RSI is not breaking their pledge to backers". Fascinating.

The fact that there seems to be nearly a 1:1 ratio among the voting people feeling either way in their official forums, should be more than enough reason for concern.

You know what happens next.

That'll work for some people. But others have woken up and aren't just keeping silent anymore, because they're being told by faithful backers that everything is fine. Once you've realized that all their fancy marketing talk shows don't really correlate to the game you've backed for 6000$, you are not going to be put at ease with some more shiny tech demos, notably lacking an ETA. To me it seems Star Citizen is finally moving towards an escalation. Whether that's CIG rebranding their pre alpha tech demo as "early access" release, releasing an actual 1.0 game or folding, because they're running out of funds and even big backers are starting to demand refunds...

The OP of that thread really has the bit between her teeth - and she seems to be handling opposition very well.

I'm surprised it's been left in General tbh.

So... Reality check v 2.0
How much changed after 5 months and two "Con"s?

This stuff with INN is mostly tedious nerd in-fighting. They're just lamely swatting at each other over possession of a "brand" that attracted a tragically pathetic number of viewers (Major Tom regularly gets more viewers to his joke videos). Nobody should care.

However. TheAgent has some comments about it:

guess they weren't happy with paying $200k a year to have less than 100 viewers a week

your pledge dollars at work folks

hello

put some feelers out

INN was scheduled to close, mostly due to poor response
this was a decision made by marketing

here's what I can 100% confirm (and they are lying if they tell you different)

INN/Redacted receives money from CIG both directly and indirectly
this includes gifted ships and donations
several members of INN and Redacted have given away these ships for events or to increase subscriptions to their channels
members have also, directly or through 3rd parties, sold CIG gifted ships on the grey market for cash

If that $200k is true - damn.
