2016 Pre-Anniversary livestream Summary
TLDR
  • IMGUR ALBUM --> http://imgur.com/a/Mi97R
  • The pre-stream was setup like a Lan party featuring: Jared Huckaby, Tyler Witkin, Jeremiah Lee, Will Wiessbaum, Vincent Sinatra, Johnathon Rigs, Adam Weiser, Twerk 17, and DeejayKnight.
  • They showed off new ships variants in Arena Commander called, "Masters of Flight" which are special paint jobs and load outs to honour certain pilots for their skill. The variants were as followed:
  • The Hornet "Wildfire" with a silver and red paint job.
  • The Sabre "Comet" with a white and grey camo paint job.
  • The Gladius "Valiant" with a green and black paint job.
  • The Avenger "Renegade" with a black, light & dark blue, and orange paint job.
  • They also showed off the Herald in some racing using some custom blue and red ship colours which are only for the stream and won't be available in game.
  • They played a little more Arena Commander, showing off the pickup system, missile cam, and general flight performance overall.
  • Star Marine will be featured at the Anniversary livestream which starts at 1PM PST.

Admiration for continuing to try and "spread the good news".
But none of that is impressive "progress" from over a year ago.
LAN party with horrid ping times.
The missile cam quit working unexpectedly.
Weapon pick-ups or power packs isn't amazing or 'never done before'.
The combat was meh.
5 paint jobs, one of which won't even be in-game. ED has tons of paint jobs you can apply to ships and see in-game now. The paint has a working wear mechanic in the game and ships can be re-painted in starports.

FD has less than 1/3 the employees working on ED that CIG has had for 2 years working on SC. Allowing CIG 2 years ramp up and design time (discounting all CR statements that they were well on their way in 2011), and an additional 2 years development time, they should right now be able to release something approaching ED v1.0. Or maybe at the least, updating the mini-PU in the same regular waves as FD did, rolling in the core mechanics with major updates during Alpha every couple of months.

I feel sorry for the devs. Art and lighting are great. 3D modellers have done the job asked of them. The problems all stem from decisions at the top and that is where responsibility for all the wasted money at CIG sits.

For CIG to buy a $15-$20,000 space door (much less renovate a Hollywood studio), using money given by backers "to develop a game" with the game in the state it is, and then flat-out lying to backers about it being "old plywood and a used garage door opener"; I don't even . . . that right there perfectly captures the issues with the project leader's mind-set and the cognitive dissonance of the true believers.

Idris and Bengal look nice. Lots of work in there...Foundry 42 delivers, as usual.

I can't disagree there - the interiors are seriously impressive.

*Edit - Considering that it's the interior of a ship that travels around...

Oi, the pre-rendered videos are stuttering now.

I know it can't be on my end...I'm sitting 8 feet above the pump at the ISP's office.

EDIT: more camera shake when big things move by in space...I can't

EDIT2: pitching the variants again

Yes like all of their epic videos are impressive doesnt change what comes out and is playable in the end. Thats the sad thing, they show incredible stuff but fail to deliver it to the players.

Of course, same old crap. All show, no go under the hood. No idea how it will play, no demonstration of what playing will be like, no idea what the game will be doing other than "look at the shiny distraction and give us money!"

Forgive my ignorance, but I firmly believe to have seen the majority of this pre-rendered footage two goddamn years ago.
Sure it's been polished and given a bit of extra paint, but the bridge shots and tactical room shots I'm 100% sure I've seen before.

Are we sure the rabid fanboy part of the SC community doesn't just have a memory deficiency?

Well they should be very similar as it is the same ship (Bengal) shown since the very first trailer. The characteristics remain while they have fattened and streamlined the rest of the ship.

The models are top notch. You may not like the style or the lack of practicality, but they look really nice and they put a lot of effort into those.
