Back to SC - so any other comments on that Space Marine video? Or it is THAT boring? :D

Positives: the movement and aiming looks way better than what we have now. I also like helmet integrated hud. [up]
Negatives: Looks like every other shot em up game, the bobbing of the hud elements is just terrible. Also, what is up with that generic weapon sounds pew pew jeez [down]

Off topic, but I think the draw of multi-crew will be doing stuff with friends in the same ship. Sounds obvious but I think there will be much fun to be had (outside any game mechanics) from just being in the same ship and experiencing the same journey and events. Sure, driving down the motorway can be boring, but with a good friend in the car its far more interesting and you make your own fun, share stories etc. This part imo has been somewhat overlooked. That said I hope there are some interesting mechanics outside it as well as missions and combat that require the multi-crew ship.

Combat wise I suspect this can be done by beefing up the opposition and getting a decent balance against NPC's that require all of you working together to defeat NPC multicrew ships. Then there's maybe some missions involving the SRV, SLF and main ship. Single player versions already exist in so far as you have to knock out defences and generators etc, before downloading data. No reason that time limit cant be reduced and have one person/people in SRV(s) doing a task, whilst someone in a SLF takes out point defences and the pilot of the ship keeps an NPC ship from taking people out. Maybe when legs come this expands to entering buidings and taking data whilst your buddies stop any incoming enemies.

+1 Rep

Not only multicrew/coop is one of the biggest features of Star Citizen but one of the biggest reasons why it has gained such popularity. That and the fact that you are a person and not a ship aka space legs. These 2 combined with it's MMORPG sense of living universe gives it the edge against any other space sim out there now. And that's why it gets so much attention from gamers/gaming media.

Star Citizen is one of the most anticipated games out there and the people waiting/wishing for it's collapse will just have to keep on doing just that lol a bit of salt a bit of hate and the popcorn lulzbucket keeps filled. :D

And the best thing is that this is just the tip of the iceberg, the hard-core gamers are engaged and the masses will keep joining in as the game gets more and more fleshed out.

For ex. Star Citizen will cater to the masses much more than Eve or Elite for instance just like Wing Commander did because it's not hostage of "science" and the technical/financial limitations of Cobra Engine/Frontier - CCP/Trinity.
Chris Roberts knows what moves players and how to make them feel connected to the world, to make it engaging and believable.

The "eminent collapse"[squeeeee] has been preached since what? 2014? "This year will make or break Star Citizen" kek. "90 days top". "Finished, The End". And what's funny is that the haters eat this spoon fed fud narrative year after year rubbing their hands out of joy at any extrapolation of "negative news" thinking "This is it ! They are doomed now, they will never recover from this, it's all downhill now". But of course that's all in their heads, the reality is that Star Citizen keeps on going and getting better and better with each update. With more inter-connected studios/devs, more players/backers and more money generated per year, and ofc more salt from the same sources. Truly one of the best soap opera's of gaming scene for sure. :D

Meanwhile, grasping for straws we get ridiculous humorous statements like:

- "Star Citizen engine is old and graphics will be bad at the time it releases" - [rolleyes]

Reality: Star Citizen is the best looking MMORPG in existence that gets better with each update AND it's Engine keeps getting updates and already does things that no other engine can do currently. [big grin]

The constant duplicate voice callouts ("Control point gained" - "The control point is ours!") are extremely annoying. Not just in SM, but in all of SC. I do hope these redundant bits can be disabled in the future.

Ohhh yeah, those voices and their mixing was a bit annoying, too loud and distracting.

Which video? To be perfectly honest those I have seen didn't look that bad, a clone of older CoDs with generic gunmetal grey science-fiction window dressing.

Without context it is boring.

With context it is just doesn't feel right with it's CoD fast TTK and mix of believable gunplay, laughable gun fire sounds and inconsistent environmental design.

Any news on when 3.0 is coming with the new improved networking?

Is it still on target for the 31st?

on 31st yes, Agent says CIG is not clear on what year or month :D

Star Citizen has yet to actually exist, and regardless of how pretty it looks in its current state, the actual game mechanics count for much more - unless people are paying money just to look at pretty spaceships.

How long does it take do all activities in SC's current state, if you discount the time it takes to d/l updates?

Don't forget the bouncy radar - that's pretty innovative and in no way really annoying.

Your spacedude is running around with his high tech iron sighted weapon from the future and his helmet hud is bouncing up and down like a demented Jack in the box.

A game with 32 (Edit: and by 32 I mean 16, thanks for the correction, 1500) people per server isn't an MMO.

Ah, yes, that one. If you ignore the crash it looks fine to me, though frames per second could have been a bit more consistent, the bobbing HUD must be pretty annoying in an actual play (though I find it fine when spectating), and of course sound design is crap.

It is not even per instance, its per server and its 24. CIG have yet to implement instances in their MMO. Would also like to point out its not a RPG either.

SC is not even one of the most anticipated of all time...step back from the baseless hyperbole.

https://www.google.com/trends/explore?cat=8&geo=US&q=/m/0n5v7g2,/m/0hgnzjh,/m/0jt2y_q,/m/021dvx

Reviewing these trends...I picked GTAV as an aging lord of interest and anticipation, World of Warcraft (to measure recent expansion interest) and ESO to throw in a less than successful entrant.

EEEKK...scratch that...need a new one

https://www.google.com/trends/explore?cat=8&geo=US&q=/m/0n5v7g2,/m/0jt2y_q,/m/064hbl

I had to remove WoW and GTAV as they were just pummeling ED and SC into irrelevance. So, now we just have ESO, ED and SC. ED and SC have similar interest with ED and SC jockeying for second place to ESO. So, I'm still stuck with an order of magnitude messing with these small numbers...so time to remove ESO.

https://www.google.com/trends/explore?cat=8&geo=US&q=/m/0n5v7g2,/m/064hbl

Wahhahahell...look at that. SC had more interest going before 2015. Then ED releases and the spots switch, dramatically.

This tells me that the fervor and hype around SC is just that...hype. I can't even compare it to games with real hype and excitement because they push CR's demo into statistical insignificance. In the grand scheme of things...a few people are spending a lot of money for a game with several others chipping in and forgetting about it (hopeful of a release, some day).

EDIT: To add, the space sim genre is super niche and, imo, never won't be. I might concede that SC is the most anticipated space sim game ever...but then I don't have any information to confirm or deny such a statement.

ooo this is fun.

No Man's Sky and SC. Interesting thing is that NMS and SC share about the same amount of interest, except right around launch.

ED, NMS, SC. Fun thing here is that on average ED has more interest then either of the other two.

I was just looking at https://www.google.com/trends/explore?cat=8&q=/m/0n5v7g2,/m/064hbl (ED and SC, global). I'm genuinely surprised by that, given the hot air over SC...
(Also, what's up with Spain?)
