The Star Citizen Thread v5

Unlike a lot of people I didn't really have an issue with the basic flight model as far as dog fighting goes. It works. I have not tried it in 2.6 yet, though.

I did try a bit of Star Marine, and that was fun, but again.... bugs. I'm truly sick of the framerate being poor, although at least it was better in SM than it is in the PU part of the game where there's a lot more status packets flying around between all the clients.

My first SM game ended in a disconnection error. :/

I get that this is an alpha and all, and it's not the bugs I mind per-se...it's the OLD bugs that have been around since the beginning that are still here. It's the fact that CR ditched the SQ42 demo because it wasn't up to his exacting standards for quality, and yet I still cannot enter and exit my spaceship (in a game about spacehips) without it breaking the game. It's the constant framerate issues due to networking. It's the hard crashing of the client half the time you exit the game. It's me clipping through the walls of my ship.

These are not some minor bugs that the engineering team doesn't have time to fix yet. This is basic stuff. After literally years I expect more improvement.

Whilst I do sympathise with your plight a part of me feels strangely re-assured that the bugs are still there.

It's what the game has done well since day 1 a year ago when whatever it was got released. They excel at PvB (player versus bugs).

Each time there's been an update I've been mentally rehearsing my humble pie posts in the event of a sudden attack of prgramming brilliance - I've steeled myself to get used to the lack of lols.

But here we are again - situation normal it seems...

When he goes up and down the ladder I get motion sickness. This coupled with the head bob and boy the anorexics are going to love this game, especially when they just flip the switch for VR.

It won't be lulzbuckets they'll be needing, but actual buckets.[ugh]

Has interest in 2.6 died that quickly?

Lol. Hey, I love the concept of SC, and I love the lore. I even enjoy a lot of what they're trying to do in the game. :)

I do try to be objective as much as possible, though, and it's hard to keep giving CIG the benefit of the doubt each and every release. It's always "Next release this'll be better..."

I for one welcome our new, more sceptical Jenner overlord.

Are you sure you didn't shopped the Star Citizen logo above the NoMan'Sky or Elite viewers? [rolleyes]

From what I've seen Star Citizen goes normaly with ~200+ viewers around the day, allways ahead of the other "fly your ship" space-games like Elite, Kerbal or NoManSky.

As for complaining about old bugs with ship's physics related that appear recurrently that's a simple case of "understanding game development" and accessing that some ship's are a priority (because Squadron42) while other's are not.

Star Citizen has around ~30+ ship's all with different physics grids that need their own special tweaking, that combined with the network problems (that are known and being worked on) makes it that you should expect those bugs has they are part of the process. Frustrating yes but understandable and not out of the ordinary.

Like I've said before, this is not Early Acess game were the priority is get every content ingame polished and in perfect gaming condition, it's an alpha build where a lot of the systems are still being assembled and ironed to work together. There's a reason why most games are getting bug fixed until the very last month of release and after release there's a Day 1 Patch to fix it even more lol :D

Oh and about the moneyz I think that besides the new players and old backers getting some more upgrades/ships there's a lot of people that subscribed just to get access to the 2.6 PTU. So by the end of the week the @ $139Millions mark should be a thing[money]

No. SC was just never all that popular with the twitch audience. It was always struggling to beat the odd nostalgia stream of Doom or SMB. There's a reason why CIG and their stable of streamers have pretty consistently been a target of ridicule since their PR efforts always yielded less results than someone like Major Tom.

Now, granted, 90 is perhaps a bit lower than usual — it's normally at least three digits — so he could have just caught it at a bad time, but it's not like it was ever a high scorer outside of the special events.

As anyone with any understanding of game development will tell you, if SQ42 was a priority, they'd be working hard on fixing those bugs since they come from a universal, game-wide element that isn't work and actually directly impacts gameplay. It's a single point of failure that affects everything, whereas any specific ship is an easily excised or circumvented sideshow.
