The Star Citizen Thread v5

I generally agree with this sentiment. What I find ironic is how this thread is viewed by some SC fans as the "most toxic thread on the internet" (but typically only because Derek Smart is allowed to post here.)

However if you then read their responses in their reddit threads, they make this one look tame. The amount of aggression, abusivenes, rudenesss and overall toxicity from some people is just downright embarrassing.

Well, Derek can be a [[filtered by forum rules]] but this is an open, frank discussion: So long as we keep it civil, our voices are heard. On reddit, you get shadowbanned, on RSI you get katamari'd, but this is the last bastion of salty space-game nerds. Which makes it a home for salty space-game nerds. [ugh]

But, yes. There is worse stuff on RSI and reddit than here. But I think it's more concentrated here...

Yeah, and then they act like they're being persecuted against. Very bizarre.

How Bizarre

It's in my face

It's toxic to them because when they take that aggression, abusiveness, and rudeness and try to bring it into this thread, the mods actually apply the rules to them rather than up-vote their posts. The gall of it!

I can't imagine anybody acting like that IRL, not for very long anyway ;). Still think some people don't get irony or sarcasm. Cultural differences eh? [rolleyes]

They have no power here - they can't talk down, [censored] talk, shout down anyone. That's why they are angry. Because they thought Internet belong them, that they are have dat power to shill.

And with mods almost sacrifice for this thread this makes this best place to discuss Star Citizen on Internet.

You offer a very convincing argument. I now agree with the redditors that the moderators in this thread is far too lenient. But instead, we all have to suffer…

It's a different sort of forum, is all. There are no "safe spaces" here, just rules of engagement.

Sure, but see how huge difference it makes. We can mock, we can joke, we can argue till red and white, but we are still civil, still listening - well, some of posters are on my ignore list, but that's mostly because I don't want to be triggered - and at the end of the day it matters a lot.

I am aware that median redditor might be immune to facts, slinging and other nasty hings, but I am not and feel way better reading this thread than regular subreddit one.

This thread is a mess, to be honest. we don't allow "trolling, insulting, and/or badgering posts directed to fellow forum users", even if they are talking utter bullocks, but we do allow mud-slinging against anyone else even if it's not backed up with any facts. It's moderated perfectly fairly within the rules, and the rules are perfectly fair, but somehow, it's a cess-pit. People like Henkka who just want to tell us how much they enjoy SC get lost in the noise of the pie-fight, and that's not right. And when Ben (and me) try to explain real stuff that is real, we get drowned out by *cough* and that's not right, either...

Still, it's a no-holds-barred deathmatch. Kind of fun, and I don't have to be here. :)

Can't Rep Ben any more... I must be showing my true colours as a double-agent!

I hope Q1 2017 gives them some real momentum. Heck, it might even turn into a proper "foot race" to see which game gets boots on the dirt first (given the perennial longing of some of the ED community for space legs).

No clue if they will do iterative patches on SM to address some of the early bugs and criticisms and to show off any immediate benefits of LY?

I can't rep you or Ben, so I must be a triple agent...
Lumberyard is not a panacea. But it gives them access to decent netcode, which can only be a good thing.
I have hope.

Sorry, but that's something I don't understand.

"Foot race"? I thought we want good games around, not who will have checkbox of this or that 'feature'. If anything has been demonstrated by SC 'by foot' mechanism, people consider it attraction not really a gameplay element. I don't personally think that make any sense till you have solid gameplay around it. I don't want another case 'SRV is cool but there's nothing to do on planets' scenario which persists to till this day.

Also I just don't see momentum happening. It just won't. And ohh boy do I will want to be proven wrong by CIG. And if they do...it will be something I will raise glass of good drink to.

Yeah, I don't quite see the place for walking around in ED. Sure, it might be nice to stretch your legs while cruising to Hutton Orbital, but that relies on there actually being something worth-while to do but which also isn't obligatory. And since ED is something of a killer app for VR, you can't really make it too movement-based, at which point you have to question the use of having it at all.

Why do you insist on ignoring the fact that top many being able to walk is intrinsically fun and immersive? You may disagree, but the core value of space legs is having legs.
