Well, I've spent many hours over the last few days trying to get hyperdicted in the UA shell, and so far nothing.
If encounters are entirely random, then I've been extremely unlucky after hundreds of jumps.
If there are criteria to improving your chances to getting hyperdicted, then we need more data. Everyone needs to report:
1. What system were they in when they were hyperdicted.
2. What ship were they in.
3. Did they recently get scanned by a UA.
4. Did they have a UA and/or a UP on board.
5. Solo/Private/Open.

Question 6. when you did get hyperdicted for the second time with the same UA onboard or did you renew it

A direct portal to Earth, that is unusual,
apart from the distance being something like 600 ly we would also only be able to target Sol, not a specific planet in the system.
I think it would be worthwhile making note of where other portals lead to.

4. No, I did have 2 UPs from the multi-ship crash site and did around 50 jumps, no effect - dumped UPs and got repaired - then got hyperdicted!

It's a common 'Inbox encounter' from what I can see. He's been lingering in the system for a while and received a mission as punishment.
1. Pleiades Sector TJ-Q b5-0

By the way, what would be a good place to get a UP? Tried the ammonia world in one of the Pleiades sector but no luck so far.

1: Aries Dark Region XU-O b6-2. I was heading to the place where the first person got hyperdicted.
2: Python. Had a bunch of module damage from carrying around my UAs, nearly drained my AFMU.
3: Last scan from a UA was when I picked it up at the multi-ship crash site.
4: 1 UA. Picked up 12 and sold all but 1 at a station at Maia. Prior to this I had picked up 6 and had enough damage to my cargo hatch to malfunction. It jettisoned all but 2 along with some of my engineer materials (evaporated into space too; dumb mechanic). I flew all the way back to inhabited space (current CG area) to vendor them, wasn't hyperdicted. I've also never seen a UP ingame.
5: Solo.
Didn't end up getting another before I just sold it off. Still, this info probably isn't needed anymore; enough people have stated they got hyperdicted without anything onboard.

Came from the ruins to Maia in my type 9, then in and out of Maia with nothing, now I'm parked at the hip crash site, I'll pick up a UA later on when I'm back on and see how long it takes!.. All the videos I've seen seem it's taking something, scan info from the UP maybe?.. Sorry if this is a repeat post!..
They look like bulges rather than depressions to me. Also in some of the 4k res shots someone posted, they appear to have legs (4 pairs each, if I am not mistaken). At one end of the cockpit there is also something that looks like a console or some kind of non-organic structure anyway.
then why would they add a tourist beacong that pinpoints the first thargoid encounter
Watching the encounter videos gives me the creeps every time!

Ive bin digging through the first post but I can't find it.
Do we actually already know what the UA is? We know we get UF's if it gets destroyed, but, what is it?
A terraforming device? Escape pod? Life pod? It light's go on if it sings(cries).
It looks like the head is a reservoir, and that the small detachable fragments feed form it.

have been to both coordinates - nothing out of the ordinary - besides of good niobium & selen mining, Ruthenium perfect !
At (-35.2725, -7.1721) found 3 metallic meteorites, side by side, 18 Ruthenium and 9 Niobium in 2 minutes....
add: neighboring system (Main A) 99 Objects - not bad for ArsenicPRU AESCS NC-M d7-130
In case anyone was wondering if something had changed since the server tick to enable to alien encounters, I'm sat on PRU AESCS HW-S B31-2 at -35.2725, -7.1721 and still nothing. Annoying, as I was passing on the way back to the bubble and need to press on. Oh well.
