So you want to know about the Formidine Rift? (Part 3)

DYNASTY EXPEDITION BEACONS

From the Children Of Raxxla Community Goal, Beacons were found in the following systems, with coded messages being transmitted every hour.
The message included a rally point for each system, which is always a landable planet. So far, two settlements have been found on these planets. We need to find more!

Is it fair to assume that each of these planets whoudl have a settlement? Is there any way to narrow down where they might be, or just hunt with Eyeball MKI?

Eyeball I believe.

At least we now have only 9 planets to search, instead of a whole sector of the galaxy that we've been searching for 2 years in.

I guess no way these can be spotted in SC or anything of the like... has to be in normal space where we're limited to flying at hundreds of meters per second

Definitely not supercruise, but gliding occurs outside of SC. So you should be able to see things with it. I was able to see the beta site while in it. If you have a long canyon you want to scour, try gliding over it for as far as possible - much quicker than the hundreds of m/s normal flight.

Thing is that at least in Conflux the two planets left for searching are literally covered in canyons and craters, aside from being pretty sizeable barren rocks. So the chance of "stumbling upon" something is incredibly slim. :/
There's no landmark or oddity to like on CD1 (biiiig crater) to investigate.

We really should figure out if there's more to what we have right now in terms of clues, otherwise this will take many many manhours worth of flying.

Furthering your story line, what do these three locations have in common? Who mounted the expeditions and why?

How bout this the powers and/or dark wheel/inra/pilots fed whoever,,, knew about the 'guardian sites' and these three areas are the destination of their exodus and all they found in the end was the living dead, the leftover ai's who are as friendly as -off killer bees. Or something like that,,whatever it is i'm calling it space zombies. Maybe the space jellies are hunting them which is why they aren't interested in us.

Just get the feeling the story lines have been tied together about the time cornflakes and hawkins first showed up shortly after drew adopted the orphanage.

I think space zombies (spombies? But think Reavers is better) might be quite likely. Consider over the last year or so: the naval convoys spotted in the bubble carrying 'subjects' that escaped confinement and ran amok, the "research station" found (in November?) that was clearly set up to carry out genetic/biological experiments to make warrior monsters out of the inhabitants; think of all the Missing, they could be experimental subjects; the biological warfare capabilities mentioned in the Guardian archives and the likelihood that Feds/Imps/INRA know about it and used that knowledge; Drew's clue that various aspects may have been spotted but not woven together -we've been looking at the individual fibres which we can now see have been woven together; 'core of the problem' is Sirius Corp in the core that is behind these "experiments". I think Salome came across evidence and has been investigating, I suspect Patreus knows of all this & may well be one of those behind it. He knows that the Reavers are building into an imminent threat; could well be a greater problem than Thargoids.

Oh, and Dynasty Expedition can be pronounced in two different ways, it struck me that Die Nasty might be the correct pronunciation.

No, it's not paranoia if they really are out to get you! [where is it]

I am out near Sacagawea and the hyperspace animation has a definite yellow orange tint to it that is very evident and was not there before people started getting ripped out of witchspace.

Video please

All three locations are what you could call 'out of range'.

I think we are dealing with the Thargoids old arch enemy:
'Thargoids wiped out an entire sentient species. The full details of the past are not clear yet. In fact, it is not entirely obvious whether the 'third race' is genuinely extinct or whether they have merely retreated out of range.'

This is not confirmed lore, but the bits fit rather well.

The 'third race' is accoding to description, what we would call Thargoid. Just a different species.

Or the Guardians?

The destination star is usually visible throughout the hyperspace sequence; I think the light coming in from the left is likely to be just a binary or close star to the destination

I'm with Lorrad - the WHY of those missions should interest us.

CONFLUX BETA MISSION LOG 2/4: "...Someone is in a hurry."

I find this one intriguing. Someone is in a hurry
a) to get somewhere (before something happens? Before someone else gets there?)
b) to get away from something

Case a) seems to me more reasonable. Case b) would not require an expedition-type venture, pointed at a specific direction

Thoughts?

Now I don't have the equipment for this type of recording, but why don't you (or someone here with the right equipment) do two vids, one in the respective area and one outside and post them here side by side. Should be easy to compare then?

They could have been intentional cannon fodder, so stopping to get scan data would be pointless.

Did some more testing. Draw distance for the beta site was ~40 km, can be seen in glide. Faint grey triangle. Also, it does not show up on radar in any capacity. So only eyes are useful.

Or the Guardians?

Just because they're really out to get you doesn't mean you're not insane crazy neither.

There's also the at least four human crash sites that sound like thargoish hyperdictions scattered around the bubble. Heading to Hawkins to do the grunt work, still 3 kylies to go, subconsious bubbling from hyperspace hypnosis and back checking things that bubble up...

Folks know about http://news.galnet.fr/en/ searchable galnet site?

Wondering how big these expeditions were and why then 3270 and why they were forgotten and how many ships and what models and why they didn't just switch to a working ship or did they fan out and all got interdicted and had to ditch and why are there no abandoned ships on the ground by the sites and did they leave somehow and what were their search patterns and why are the only available logs from a bridge guy who knows next to nothing and a cargo handler who knows even less, whats next logs from the cook and cleaner? and, and, and,,, Sure hope there's more sites.

Keep thinking Salome will pop up after her miraculous rescue by Hassan,,,but with the story shift adding in conflux and hawkins maybe her role is,,,retcon redacted dead.

I've done a bit of searching around EAFOTS RA-G B11-0 3 and EAFOTS EU-R C4-1 C2. Looking at significant landmarks on day side.

Nothing so far.

Anyone got an aerial shot of the Conflux base? Just wondering what it was near.

Also how did we find the original CTD sites? Just by luck?

Thanks. The lack of a search box on Galnet is truly maddening when trying to research stuff. It defies rational explanation.

Arrived to PLAA AEC IZ-N C20-1
Rally Point (settlement) on: A1A

So looking at things it will require more people or one lucky guy :)
Created a spreadsheet with rows an columns from -180 to 180, I think flying on 9 km I can see 3 degrees total from left to right, so in maybe 90 minutes i cover about that much:

Are they always triangle in shape? Or at least the two of them already found?

Fellow Commanders, I come bearing news from the Hawkin's Gap!

With help from public domain resources held by Cannon Research, we locked down the system and planet based upon the beacon transmissions. With a detailed survey of the planet surface, roughly at the coordinates, I alongside my comrade, Symyoulater, located this settlement.

A very special thank you Commander Zach for republishing the public Canonn research data!

Without a doubt exciting for us but also the community at large!

For full disclosure, here are the coordinates as per my SRVs HUD:

Nice work commander o7. :)

I'm not sure what my next step is going to be but I think it includes the untimely death of Commander Finn McMillan. It looks like the Rift has claimed another victim.

McMillan? Heard of him? Yeah, even met him once on that mission out to Cassiopeia. My greatest regret... When it seemed the mission was a bust, we all left... we all left him out there in the rift. Alone on that deserted planet. He still believed in the end, when all of us has gone back to claim our credits...
