I've said before, that while I don't want direct fast travel around the Galaxy, I'd be quite happy with rare and random wormhole type anomalies, with random-ish unknown destinations to explore.

Couple that, with your Nav computer needing time to calulate your current position in the galaxy, and you could have quite a bit of fun with that.
Jumping around entirely unknown systems, trying to find a clue as to which direction to head to get home.

You Nav Computer could just list every reachable star on your panel as
Unknown System 3.55ly
Unknown System 12.13ly
With no access to the galaxy map, or atleast not show you on it.

Until your computer either finishes working it out, or you hit a star it can calculate it from.

Lost in space!

When intergalactic travel becomes a thing those jumpgates will have been built but for now i think i would be more reasonable to expect polonium based drives somewhere in the future as a logical step up the high jump ladder

No one said it had to be a single jump gate and you are there. However you could turn a 9 to 12 hour journey into a 5 to 6 hour journey and it would lose none its sense of accomplishment.

Not to mention that once you have jumped to your 50th system, you have seen everything this game has to offer in the way of long range travel.

It wont get better, faster, more interesting, or compelling. If it was actually fun, then you wouldnt have posts like this.

...Seriously though, why do people feel the need to shorten travel distances in MMO's the world over?...
Well my intention was not just to shorten the travel distance. I liked the community goal idea and thought "how cool would it be, if the community goal fails at a later point". We could have some working IAPs and some unfinished onces which will never be completed, but will stay forever in the galaxy with a nice story around them.

Indeed, thats why I said, a IAP "only" let you jump 1000ly for a high price.

The problem with the game as it stands right now...over the past couple of years, credits have become so easy to come by so as to become essentially worthless. When people can talk in terms of a billion credits a week...what exactly is this high price of which you speak?

I'd rather see neutron stars get a boost to their FSD range so the lay commander that doesn't spend hours looking up and bookmarking interstellar highway locations can shave some time off the trip through meaningful gameplay. That way, there is still a journey and meaningful gameplay to faster travel, not a warp gate.

Colonia is far far away from the bubble, which has it pros and cons.

But why not building 22 Interstellar Acceleration Portals (IAP) from the bubble to Colonia as part of a Community Goal, which lasts for around 11 months. The IAPs have to build one after the other (but two at the same time, one near the bubble and the other one near Colonia), so in 11 months we could build these 22 IAPs.

Each IAP let a Spaceship jump 1000ly and you have to pay around 250.000-750.000 Credits (depending on the mass) for each jump.

Like, dislike (I know you CMDRs love to dislike ^^)?

Please don't end a post with that, it makes it hard to take you serious, yes, the idea is in the theme of get me to x faster, so yes, many dislike it, like the official poll showed.

Colonia is meant to be far away, getting there is meant to be an effort, you are travelling over 22k ly, that is an insane distance, it is not meant to be somewhere you jump back and forth between easily. The majority enjoy this sense of scale, it helps give stuff meaning, if you can just pop around everywhere it works against it, and can make it seem meaningless, if something is considered an achievement, an effort, and it is made to not be so? well yeah, I don't know about you but I don't want that, there are an enormous amount of games out there where difficulty, and effort you need to put in is very low, and this isn't meant as an insult, it is a fact, go play those instead?

However if you are here and enjoying Elite already, maybe just maybe despite having parts you dislike, the whole of it comes together to be something you enjoy? good and bad comes together as the whole, of the game, so changing something like that would vastly affect the game. Also consider that instead of being a remote location, Colonia would suddenly be overrun by people, including those that would work against what you would want to do in Colonia.

At the moment you can't do anything in Colonia. My Imperial Clipper can dock at just 3 stations, Jaques doesn't has any missions, Colonia Hub has no outfitting (I guess Colonia Dream has no outfitting as well).

And Jaques is the only station with a Shipyard. I'm trying to use neutron stars to get back, but to set 380 bookmarks needs very long time on the xbox...

Travel speeds are almost too fast as it is, between FSD mods, fuel injections, and neutron star boosts. Their only saving grace is that they require some effort, planning, and a sacrifice to the Random Number Gods to use.

Neutron highway is enough.

Very fast to follow.

Plus there are 5 outposts along the road.

That route is anything but direct, it heads out to SagA for the most part and takes a slight turn to Skaudai, but it is definitely not the route you want to take if you want to get there fast.

There is a plane of neutrons about 200-400ly below the galactic plane, it seems to go around the whole galaxy, not just to Colonia, so you can use that to go anywhere in about half the time; you jump 4x as far, but it takes twice as long to plan every neutron jump vs just doing the regular jumps (program in 1000ly and jonk).

Still, there is nothing out there, why go at all? You'll suicide home out of boredom after a few days there.

NB: This crowd is all about "space is very big for a reason" / "imurshun" yet they use their magical FSDs (pimped by engineers to give even more range) none the less... Been there, done that, got the whiners. Just stay in the bubble, more to do and less braincell killing jonking to do it.

Sort of like this!

This is just like those that want inter-system jumps. Its the one thing that makes Colonia and Hutton orbital special. These suggestions just turn them into random system/outpost #1254

I am for once glad the poll result is as determined as it is.

Yeah, thats because it only got started a few months ago. Give it another 6-12 months and see what happens, it'll be thriving and a few times the size... Unless the thargoids bomb it.... There's also the fast way home if you don't mind leaving/selling your ship there. Or recalling it and paying the transfer costs. I could be home from Colonia in 60 seconds or so maybe with a bit of suicidewinder action :p

I'm not into those long journeys myself. But that place is a long way away and for people who want to travel there it should remain something of a challenge.

I'm voting no. Its remote for a reason, its location challenges you to commit to the journey and only those capable of getting to the new frontier will do so, this makes it special. To insta warp there in minutes would render it no different to any other system within the existing bubble. If you cant handle the time investment then stick to the current bubble.
