2.3 dev update feedback mega thread

Ok, here's all my feedback on what I read so far, in one huge post:

Setting up Multicrew:

Don't see the point of the random matchmaking “looking for ship” feature. No one will ever use it. People are afraid of their own shadow because of in-game exploits destructive behavior and won't risk being matched with someone willing to ruin their game for personal fun. If you have already programmed this, so be it, but if you didn't, I'd recommend dropping it.

And if it were done like remote wingman, and "Open up for requests" was just one way of starting the method, where you get requests to join and the pilot accepts or rejects, this would allow people to BECOME game-friends after building up mutual trust.

Indeed, it seems like the buffing of credits and reduction of rebuy are there solely to make commanders turn on the "Open for anyone to leap in and ruin my day" because they've not got anything to allow an agreement to share to be implemented. Except for the Wing requests....

Drop out to menu, see who is up, message them to ask to join, join. And then just share out the payments for all crew, with the lions share going to the pilot, but make the crimes the fault of the pilot too. For new players, that can give them some help in getting started on buying a ship big enough to survive with a new player driving. And it stops someone sharing the penalty for aggroing stations or shooting clean players by just starting shooting when someone else is aboard.

There's no need to "bribe" people to keep their ship "Open" and risk someone trolling their gameplay. Because the money in the game is so easy to come by, the "cash" reward really isn't worth the risk. So without any way of kicking people out or refusing Joe Random or Jenny Somebody on board, the take-up of the scheme will be limited, probably to the less salubrious users who want the passive buffs but don't care if someone is going postal with the other guns, since the more mayhem, the better in their view.

Regarding the matchmaking, im surprised its not done via a crew lobby type window for people to see who's available, with a 'rating' system for other commanders who've used them to grade and leave a comment, a la tripadvisor and the ilk.

You may be more effective

But you will earn considerably less money!

You may or may not. As a wingman you get a share of the total mission payout, but that may be more than the crewman gets. You also get the full bounties of any kills, and the full rep for them. And if the lack of your fighter causes the loss of the ship, and this will be a BIG ship to make a gunner worth having, you're on the bill for part of the rebuy, IIRC. If you're a wingie, you're up only for your rebuy if you die.

So it might, but might not, be more money for you. It would definitely be less money for the pilot who wants you on their ship as a gunnie, but then again I think that there should be no extra credits magicked out to keep the original pilot's renumeration steady and give the crewmember a payment for playing someone else's employee.

All bounties and vouchers that the helmsman (ship owner) receives are duplicated for each crewmember, making multicrew a great way to have fun with friends without missing out on money-making opportunities.

This is also how wings should work to make it appealing. Or increase the payout per wing member.

If I can move instantly from my current ship to your ship 150ly away I see not reason why I can't instantly move to my other ship that is 150ly away using the same mechanism.

Because the mechanism won't move your ship.
Because your ship won't fit in the cockpit, never mind the chair.
Because you can't.

Who said anything about moving ships?

If we have telepresence and I am connecting to my Conda that's in say Cubeo and I can log into your ship that's in say 17 Draconis I should just as easily be able to log out of my Conda and log into my Python parked at sothis!

No chairs, or ships required!

It's just simple logic, If there is a mechanism to move a representation of me 200ly to your ship I should be able to do it to my own ships as well!

"because you can't" is an arbitrary restriction on gameplay for no reason that you can justify, otherwise you would have justified it!

Now if there is no such mechanism then the only way for me to get into your ship should be for me to meet in the same station and board it,

these are the only 2 logical possibilities.

Frankly I don't care which they do, but for consistencies sake they should pick one and stick with it!

Ähm ... sorry OA but here i have to disagree completely ... this stupid telepresence-instant-teleporting MC stuff is the INCARNATION OF SHALLOW GAMEPLAY in all its glory!

Please, do not confuse a time gated simple gameplay with deep gameplay just because it eats time.

People assumed that multi-crew would create deeper gameplay. This is not the case, what it does is create quick-play coop gameplay. Which is fine by me.

And telepresence is a far cry from shallow gameplay. In fact it has nothing to do with gameplay, and everything to do with lore. Lore that is 100% in the hand of FD, not us.
Finally, telepresence makes a lot more sense than meat pilots behind a glass sheet taking 50g accelerations... or flying 100km from a BH horizon
(And by the way, telepresence would solve the whole "magic" respawn... XD)

So before crying about immershun think about what one think as "realistic". What I see is people nitpicking about small stuff while conveniently ignoring much more glaring "problems".

We don't need yet an other gameplay that requires 1h to setup for coop. What ED needs (desperatly) is coop play that can be setup in 5min, and I'm not speaking of CQC.

I'm most curios to know what people way out in the black think of instant crew transfer vs what people who spend alot of time in the bubble think of instant crew transfer.

Where are you.

In terms of exactly where I am...parked up about 31klys from ganktown and about 9klys 'north' of ganktown junior.

What I think of this? Mot a great deal if truth be told...I came out here alone, and Ive been alone fer some time which suits me just fine. 2.3 introduces a function Ill most likely never use and I dont see meself as a tour guide. If players wanna see the sights, then no doubt OA can help out...cos I have almost zero interest in having passengers who cant be bothered to make the trip out here themselves.

Not being in any way nasty about this...my daughter plays too and I say the exact same thing to her as I would say to anyone else. If she wants to explore, then explore...but I dont run a sight seeing tour and nor did I do this alone and spend months alone just to set up some sorta tourism taxi.

A personal point of view...others may feel different, but Im not here to play their game, Im here to play mine and mine alone figuritively speaking as well as literally ^

Hi.
Here are my thoughts.
I'm a little sad that the only multicrew use in in combat for now, apart from the possible tourism with friends part.
I'm a Smuggler myself so I could think of a few things that might help if delegated to the crew.
Like managing heat.

I think that stopping the crew from doing certain things should be up to the ship's owner like control of the helm.
The crew members could have all the same controls the helm has (plus a few) but the ship owner could switch on or off the shared control of anything.
So the crew couldn't screw with the thrusters during a battle if the ship owner decides they don't want them to but in case of emergency (in-game or real life) they could pass it on.
(Also, the possibility to share thrust and rotation could give birth to some fun sports.
Racing with 2 pilots, one rolling, the other pitching etc...)

Also, I think the third person view should be explained in the diegese of the game. Whether it is the gunner's view or the turret's view on the SRV.
I'm sure the instant travel to someone else's ship won't be right away but I hope that in future updates, it will be explained with telepresence at least :
If you instant travel, it's holograms and video feed like the fighter and the SRV turret. If you walked to the ship, you're actually in the ship.
But having an hologram version of the character instead of a solid looking one would help a lot with immersion.

Honestly, i don't really care much for multi crews.

I care about getting interdicted by NPC pirates ALL the time telling me to empty my cargo hold, I'm getting interdicted constantly!

Pirate: "Empty your cargo hold, and nobody has to get hurt"!

Me: "But i don't have a cargo hold???????"

If this get's fixed i will be a happy man.

And we also need exploration gear... BADLY! Not more combat.

When your an old man in care home don't complain if she doesn't visit :)

You did "With my ship".

No. You can't. You can only log into someone else's chair. You have to come back to your own originating ship's chair.
