The Star Citizen Thread v5

Guys, i can't put my mod hat on here, but have a care or you might summon one of the other mods.

While Space Dandy has a point, and comparisons with ED are inevitable, its best to stay clear of discussing ED in this thread unless its very pertinent.

ED has its development issues, there is no denying that, but there is a whole forum out there to discuss those things, and people do.

Let's focus on SC here.

While there is a lot of logic in what is said hear and I agree with a lot that is said, it is still worth a note that the General Chat in SC forums is mostly of a positive nature.

When/if that turns then the doom and gloom will likely become real, until then SC still has a very real opportunity to continue its funding and develop a very good space game.

Of course, because everyone is just dreaming of what they think the game will be once released. Same with many game forums, ED's included.

Then the game gets released, and people start saying "What the game really needs now is X", and someone says, "No it doesn't" and someone says "Yes it does".... and from that day forward, the forums become more and more argumentative, because no matter what CIG promise, they will never please everyone.

Within a few months of release (or even earlier) we will see threads with the following themes:

Buff/Nerf X
Devs are incompetent
Why haven't devs done X
This game sucks
Carebears/Greifers are ruining the game
I'm a backer for a billion dollars and CIG should listen to me
We need more X
ED does X better than SC
Explorers - space is too small - there is nothing to discover
Fed up with walking everywhere, can we get a teleport

And many many more.

Ofc it isn't but that wasn't what I was talking about and I wasn't talking about you if that's what you think.

See this is the kind of thing that I mean, I came here to talk about SC instead immediately found a couple people bashing some people talking about SC cause ED this and that but when we try and refute the comparison we are the ones somehow in the wrong?

This is about SC sure but if someone quotes us and goes on about ED we have every right to reply in kind cause lets face it they are both space games so are bound to be used in comparison same as they are both crowd funded game on top of it so again will be compared.

Also I dislike your insinuation that I came here to "whine" about ED. If there a rule we can't talk about ED in this thread then I expect no talk period of ED in it... be it positive as well as negative.

That's not true, you popped into the thread and immediately criticized ED in an inaccurate and disingenuous way and then went "WAAAH, I'm being picked on, not about ED, why are there ED fans in this forum" when the comparisons all showed SC in a bad light. This is not a new and original thing to say.

You like to encourage people to read threads from a few years ago, follow your own advice and read the first umpteen versions of this thread and you'll see how many times everything you've said has been said and disproved before.

I don't know why this is so difficult to grasp...

This thread, as in the one you are reading, the one called The Star Citizen Thread is about the game Star Citizen. See, the clue is in the title. It is about Star Citizen.

There is a whole forum here - https://forums.frontier.co.uk/forumdisplay.php/29-Elite-Dangerous about Elite.

Now, using very small words - post about Star Citizen ONLY in here. Just Star Citizen. Star Citizen.

Got that?

In case you are still confused - Elite Dangerous IS NOT STAR CITIZEN and this isn't the place to discuss it.

Star Citizen in this thread; Elite Dangerous anywhere here - https://forums.frontier.co.uk/forumdisplay.php/29-Elite-Dangerous

This thread is for Star Citizen.

Star Citizen.

Soooooo true,
Perhaps CIG know this and hence part of the reason not to rush to release ....

I know the writing was on the wall for VR in SC but to know its officially on the backburner now..... I am gutted. It was a stretch goal which hooked a lot of buyers back at a time when CIG didn't have mega millions. Looking at the design at its core one wonders if it was ever seriously on the cards or just a money spinning sales pitch.

The worst of it is, its Ben Parry who worked on Elite and who surely knows the effect VR had on the promotion of ED who dropped the news.

Was looking forward to SC, feeling deflated about it now, vr for me is as important in cockpit game as wheel in a racing sim

Dunno I pre ordered SC and so far I like what I have played though I am waiting till its more complete to do more than testing. Guess what I am getting at is that perhaps it's good that some of us are able to throw cash in the hopes of getting a good game we will like...

I mean just imagine how ED may never have happened if some of us hadn't thrown money at Frontier "pre order" like even after Frontier didn't *gasp* do a whole bunch of what they were suppose to... like offline mode etc etc.

Something to think of before anyone ridicules others for hoping something good will come of it.

This thread really isnt about the concept of kickstarter or crowdfunding. Everybody should realize that without crowdfunding we wouldnt have access to sometimes genre breaking games. The ongoing discussion is about CiG NOT FULLFILLING its part and focusing on money making without releasing anything of return value except hot air and dreams. Worries on my part are that its an elaborate ponzi scheme by now with CR knowing he cant do it but still trying to rack in money by milking his backers since 2014.

If you want to compare the project to ED then just compare what each company released since they started. I guess you ll realize why CiG is getting a good and deserved ribbing.

I will try to paste most of the info from the new Schedule Report.

DIALOGUE LINE IMPROVEMENTS

SHIP BALANCE / IMPROVEMENTS
REVIEW OF SHIP SPEEDS

  • After seeing feedback from 2.6.0 we feel that further changes need to be made to the speeds of ships in SCM to create a wider spread that is in line with the ship role.
  • Complete
    • More tuning may be needed after internal testing
FUEL CONSUMPTION TWEAKS

  • An extension of the above. This is intended to make fuel more of an expendable commodity that has to be managed.
  • Complete
    • More tuning may be needed after internal testing
WEAPON AND MOUNT HEALTH BALANCE

  • After reviewing feedback, we’ve found that weapons and their mounts can be too easily destroyed with splash damage. We are increasing the health of both components to combat this.
  • Complete
WEAPON PROJECTILE SPEED BALANCE

  • We’ve found that weapon projectiles have a varied speed across the game, which makes aiming with certain weapon setups in flight a challenge due to the position of the lag pips. Adjusting projectile speeds should bring these pips closer together in more setups to reduce the current extreme offsets we’re seeing.
  • Initial pass Complete
    • More tuning may be needed after internal testing
ALLOW MAX AFTERBURN ON ALL AXIS

  • Allowing the ability to reach maximum afterburn speeds on all ship axis when strafing, but at a reduced acceleration rate on any other axis than Y (straight ahead) as regular maneuvering thrusters don’t have the power to reach those speeds at the same rate,

  • Work for this is now Complete
    • This is now in testing with QA and may require more time for bugfixing

Later will post the TLDR of "The Happy Hour"

For those wanting a catch-up back on page 2290: Rolan: our roving SC fact reporter and all-round good bloke posted up a decent summary of the state of 2.6.1 :)

The ongoing discussion is about CiG NOT FULLFILLING its part and focusing on money making without releasing anything of return value except hot air and dreams.

Just going to pull you up here.

This thread is for all things related to SC, not just bashing CIG. Even if it is the primary theme around here.

It's primary theme because we have nothing else to go on on facts.

Trust me I would better read what kind of real economy system CIG might cook up for SC 3.0 Alpha. Because that's always interests me in such games like this.

But they don't even share those details, despite they should have been nailed down ages ago.

But they don't even share those details, despite they should have been nailed down ages ago.

I doubt, we will get any gameplay details anytime soon...since 3.0 looks like is NOT coming out anytime soon...I guess at 2017 Q4...

btw their video shows quality are totally going downhill, this one was hard to watch:

No surprise its has a lot of dislikes...other one "Happy Hour" is also not a fan favorite...

You forgot;

I have full LTI - why is my replacement ship taking so long to be delivered?!

Not saying it isnt, I just said what you underlined that most points being brought up are based on my claim. Delays, changes, more stuff not originally intended, "forgetting" past promises etc.

And personally I dont see this thread being here for "bashing" SC as you say. Its just that under neutral conditions (everybody has the same rights here) SC somehow comes out at the very bottom which is openly stated. bashing SC is a logical consequence when there is so much to bash em for. We could talk more about the stuff CiG dreams up but regarding their track record so far and missing features from years ago it remains dreams and theory crafting.

I d like to focus on facts, the few which are available and under that light SC shines in a dirty light. I dont bash SC for bashings sake you know.

It could well be that the reason why it was Ben Parry that mentioned bad news about VR was because he is well aware of the importance that it will have in cockpit sims.

Star Citizen was announced half a decade ago. It's starting to look very outdated even before it's released.

Its backwards game developing for sure. It was said and established at the very start that CiG would have to pour in much more work and effort in order to keep polishing content and assets which in the meantime proved itself time and time again.

Why this fact needed to be "tested" or "given a chance" is beyond me anyway. History has shown that this is the worst possible way to make a game. There was no need to "give it another try". Everybody who creates games for a living or follows game developing should see the risk and danger in doing so. Maybe I was blinded as the rest of the people when SC was announced and I was hoping that CR had some kind of "masterplan" which would enable them to tackle said problems in a never-before-seen way and overcoming them. Sadly it became appearant pretty soon that this is not the case and CR in a naive way started with the part of game developing which would generate the most hype and cash-inflow. That happend to be something which usually happens at the END of a game development cycle. Another reason to assume that the game never really was the focus of CR and delivering anything that is Star Citizen didnt really have a chance even at the start.

Star Citizen has tried to catch up to CRs claimes and promises since it started and so far hasnt really caught up the mark and is currently way behind expectations.
