Star Citizen Newsletter - Today's Forecast: Anvil Hurricane
February 24th, 2017
Greetings Citizen.

The CIG Events team has been gearing up for a great show at GDC. Star Citizen will be on prime display at the Amazon Lumberyard Booth and we’ll also participate in their twenty-four hour live stream. So, if you can make it to GDC, swing by and say hello. If not, check us out on their Twitch channel.

Today, we finally got to reveal the Anvil Hurricane. What I love about this ship is it’s an aggressive fighter with massive artillery and it really adds to the lore of Star Citizen. While we’ve already got a handful of combat ships in the game, when working with the designers, it was important to figure out what was this ship’s unique character, what was it bringing to the table to make it feel distinct.

The Hurricane reveal isn’t our only big news. Soon, we’ll be sending out a video and updated perks for all our subscribers.

We’re working away at the 2.6.2 update and collecting bugs submitted by the Issue Council. Your feedback there has been invaluable in helping us identify and work through fixes. The upcoming patch will mostly be polish and balancing changes, but there will be added features that didn’t make the 2.6.1, like the MultiPlayer MegaMap, which will help cut down the load time between the multiplayer maps. This week, I met with producers from all the studios to talk through the schedules for 3.0 and Squadron 42. You got a sense of how complicated the process was in the Buccaneer Ship Shape featurette a few weeks ago, so you can imagine how many more elements these schedules need to factor in. It’s been a challenging, yet satisfying, process to pull all this together. We’ll keep you posted every step of the way.

So all the ships are the same then? [???]

not really, they're all very, very different in SC. Most of them you can walk around in, man turrents, and different posts. for those, the internal layouts are very, very different. REtaliator, for example, is basically two long hallways surrounding the bomb bay, with an upper deck for off duty, an captains quarters on the port side. Very efficient. The starfarer is huge, with multiple floors with many lateral and horizontal hallways, cross overs, and access tubes. Very different. and of course no one would say a retaliator flies like a starfarer :))

. Between different manufactures, ships have a very different feel. Anvil ships for example, look feel and fly very differently than say, MISC ships. There are around half a dozen manufacturers in game, one of which actually makes alien-based ships. And within each ship manufacturer's line, the individual ships fly very differently. So, a super hornet is a very different beast than a gladiator. Kind of like how a corvette is very different than a suburban, even though both are made by chevy. You'd never say a chevy was the same as an accura, nor would you say a suburban was the same as a corvette :))

'Flare' items? They are in distress then. [haha]

EDIT... So all the ships are the same then? [???]

Funny how the faithful never read that into the official small print CIG presents, huh? :D
But yes, that's pretty much what it says.

With citizens no longer being able to post new threads, that particular subforum has outlived its usefulness anyway. Might as well remove it completely, since I'm sure all of those things have been attended to by the diligent CIG staff. :p

Is CIG really shutting down the main forum?

Flair isn't it? lol

maybe, I was just quoting you :)
I could care less about thinks like ship skins and in-game items. Maybe they call it flare or flair, personally I think it's a waste. I don't think SC is alone in selling ship skins though.

lol it looks the same.

the auro? It's a junky little ship, comes with the starter pack. Looks like a grashopper. nimble, but very under armed. It's a nice ship to start with becuase it can do pretty much any role, but its pretty much bottom of the barrel for all of them. It has a small bed in the back, so you can get out of tyour seat, go in your cot, and then log out.. you won't have to find a space station to dock so you can log out. IT's also very easy to EVA out of, but that's about all it has going for it. We had an org night last week where we all flew auroas, we got our arses hadnded to us.

if you want to know of what a TRUE, roberts-inspired ship is, that is it. The auroa and the Connie are both "manufactured" by RSI -- Roberts space industries. The connie and auroa are the nearest/dearest to his hearts.

Other ships, like the hurricane, thank god, are designed and implemented by real artists.

That was the point of the joke 'flare' (as spelt wrongly in that disclaimer) = distress signal.

Jeez I don't know why I bother sometimes.

They seem to be sneaking it in very slowly as Spectrum (that name…) becomes the “one platform that does it all”, the latest being that they disabled the ability to create new threads. In time, the old forums will be archived, and Spectrum becomes its replacement.

Because someone has to, and CIG certainly won't. :D

For instance (just to bring it full circle), it doesn't seem like anyone at CIG has bothered to think what they're saying when they proudly proclaim that all their users are “on the spectrum”.

AHA... now I get it. I just didn't see where you were going with that.

maybe he's REALLY talking about flares? like decoys?
Or maybe it's a british think? [joke] like we say color (the correct way) and you say colour? [/joke]

The posters on the Katamari forum think they are.

Look up the word FLAIR. It will help you understand what they are trying to sell.

pal, this time I really tried.. I included the [joke] tags even!!!
I know what they're selling... ship skins, ship paint jobs, in game posters... it's all a waste to me, but I understand SC isn't the only game that sells that kind of stuff.
I think the point is that the misspelled "flare", and really meant "flair"?

[joke] unless they're REALLY talking about counter measures? [/joke]

Yeah, i handt heard if sc untilnlate 2014. Amazing how far theyve come sunce then.

So… next to nowhere, with the same embarrassing errors still skulking around, and core foundational gameplay still completely undefined? [haha]
