Why I only interdict Haulers & Type-X ships.

Because I'm a filthy pirate. Incredibly, this means I want cargo, not blood, especially not my own blood.

So I use logic to choose my targets. I simply go for those that are obviously a cargo hauler.

Upon sight, I drop my "submit now" macro & begin the interdiction tether. Sometimes the target fights back, sometimes they follow my request.

We drop into normal space. I send my "stop for scan" macro. If the target runs or shoots, I drop a "last warning" macro. If grey stop, I continue the cargo scan. If they have cargo, I request at most six tonnes, as I only have a sixteen ton hold. Often I request less. If the target begins negotiations, I discuss terms. After the transaction, I offer protection for an extra ton of cargo, his choice of commodity. This protection means I won't attack him for a week. I have a notebook at hand.

If he does not comply, I open fire. First, I target a drive. Then, I target the hatch. If he tries to shoot, or calls in friends, I kill him. I have to get build a reputation.

Now I don't see the above as unreasonable. I make every effort to open diplomatic talks. What happens to the hauler is ultimately his choice.

Also, I welcome bounty hunters. I have a macro taunting them to chase me, and another saying "Well played" if they best me.

But, despite all the efforts to be an efficient pirate who just is after cargo, only killing as a last resort, I'm near always called a griefer. Oh well, if that's a term for a true pirate now, I'll wear it with pride. Watch out cargo movers... I'm on the hunt. :]

It's not a PVP game, no matter how you look at it. The time you gave to invest to get your insurance fees covered is actually pretty high if you don't resort to semi exploits like mode switching or mission stacking. A lack of crime/punishment system is also not helping your cause, the 6-12k bounty you get is a bad joke.

So screw you for annoying the people that want to interact with the community in open mode and get shot to pieces. The super toxic PVP community was part of the reason I dropped this amalgamation of placeholder mechanics aka "game" months ago. Not because I got shot to pieces, I can stand my ground but every friend that tried this game was killed multiple times before even leaving the starting system by some random muppets trying to justify his behavior with dumbass roleplay reasons.

So it's wrong of me to play as advertised? I'll link the source of this claim in a bit when on PC.

Open = anything goes.

And when I kill, which is rare... Trust me, it's because of bad decision by the Hauler.

A pirate only robbing cargo ships? Say it ain't so!

Personally I have no problems with your approach and I certainly wouldn't consider you a griefer if I were to be pirated in such a manner, unless maybe if you targetted the same person over and over. Unfortunately, I suspect your approach is the exception rather than the rule, which is why you've been tarred with the same brush as the murder-pirates. Shame really, as a genuine piratical encounter would be fun......outright murder/destruction for no obvious reason or in-game context, not so much.

Want some Unicorn?

Anyway..

Your combat skills will keep you safe in a cutthroat galaxy.

Why buy cargo when you can pirate it from a fellow Commander?

Why buy game you won't enjoy based on the advertising?

Why buy a game that advertises this type of gameplay when you are going to cry about it? I ain't crying over the "super toxic" NPCs or bounty hunter players.

Thanks for the link Error. Saved me searching. And to think! Frontier are yet to implement data theft! As it stands I ignore exploration ships because I won't get anything out of it even if I try.

You gonna act like a , you gonna die like a , if you want to go full neckbeard "it's game design" on me stop right there, can't stand that bull. Do the math, piracy doesn't pay nearly enough to make any sense. You can't steal exploration data. Because its a demo with demo dlc. Wake me up when this game has content, maybe in 9 years when my time in the navy is over this could actually have some basic gameplay to it

I do piracy for fun, not profit.

Incredibly, credits aren't the only reason to play.

If I were a pirate, I'd do the same as the OP.

Only I suck at being a pirate.

I also don't have any marcos handy.
Or a notepad.

I can't tell if some of the responses to the OP are salty tears or sarcasm.

@Comrade Error

Well, you have to remember the fundamental difference between AI and players in terms of intent. AI is an artificial construct included to provide content and challenge for all, across a range of skill levels, but it lacks the 'I just want to destroy you because I can' mentality behind certain player actions. I for one don't have a problem with AI trying to interdict me to pirate my cargo - their intent is not specifically to ruin my day, even though they may end up doing so, but rather to provide a challenge. AND they communicate at least (even if they attack off the bat). Certain types of players get joy from ruining the progress of others, they enjoy the feeling that they've created an emotional reaction, hence the salt mining for example. For mine, it's not that other players can interdict or attack me, it's the attitude and arrogance certain players bring with them - and that elicits an emotional response that AI just can't replicate (they can 'act' arrogantly but it's not the same). My reaction to an NPC destroying me is that I was stupid because it's usually a mistake or overconfidence on my part that led to it - destruction by another CMDR for no reason other than they want me to be their content (and I'm talking the ganking-type attack here)? Well that's a very different emotional reaction, I can tell you.

My main gripe is the hollow icon though - it's far too easy for certain players to simply target others for no reason other than they ARE players (it's all about the PvP for some, regardless of whether the other player wants it or not).

before I started pirating i was about to quit playing. there were only so many selfies to take with my Asp.

Same, I was struggling to like exploration. My last attempt I self destruction not even 900ly from Sol.

Piracy however, has breathed new life into the game. Both PvP & PvE.

I too sick at piracy, but I try my best.

Personally I wish FD would round up all the pretend pirates and ship them all out to Los Santos...I'm sure GTA5 would warmly welcome you . Sadly this is what I fear ED will be coming to as soon as the game goes to all consoles.

And sending me any silly macros, will get you a very non macro response

Can't stand the facts? Not surprising. As Unicorn has already said, pay is nice but that's not why we play the game. If money was the end goal i would be at Sothis or whatever furiously logging in and out of the game.
