Why I only interdict Haulers & Type-X ships.

It's not a PVP game, no matter how you look at it. The time you gave to invest to get your insurance fees covered is actually pretty high if you don't resort to semi exploits like mode switching or mission stacking. A lack of crime/punishment system is also not helping your cause, the 6-12k bounty you get is a bad joke.

So screw you for annoying the people that want to interact with the community in open mode and get shot to pieces. The super toxic PVP community was part of the reason I dropped this amalgamation of placeholder mechanics aka "game" months ago. Not because I got shot to pieces, I can stand my ground but every friend that tried this game was killed multiple times before even leaving the starting system by some random muppets trying to justify his behavior with dumbass roleplay reasons.

As a PVE player I have to say that there is nothing wrong with what the OP does so you need to get over yourself

If you dont want to pvp then drop the 6t of cargo....simple

people like you are what leads to proper griefing

OP you are in no way a griefer and thank you for playing the game as it should be played

Reading the last couple of posts doesn't it seem a bit odd that the victim Cmdr almost has to want to be the victim - practically seek it out and consent to it? Consent in addition to being in Open of course. Seems like the canned nature would take some of the fun out of it but to each his own.

PvP piracy doesn't exist in this game. It's all just space begging.

Apparently this annoys the wannabe pirates a lot and forces them to constantly brag about how fearsome they are and things like that. They know that they are nothing more than someone asking for a bit of money in front of the subway entrance with a paper cup.

Well, firstly I wasn't being disdainful of either mode over the other. Just stating a fact - the content is predominantly PvE-centric. End of. Simple as. As you put it. And I wasn't complaining the game was not a PvP game. But whatever....

And that 'vast' PvP community you speak of may not be as 'vast' as you think where Elite: Dangerous is concerned - even Frontier have acknowledged that the majority of players don't participate in PvP. Not that I want that PvP community to go away and never suggested that should happen but go on misinterpreting posts.....

As I'll say to many, PvP is clearly only a specialist minority sport until you go into Open, where suddenly....gankers! Or you know, drop into a 17 draconis CZ and there's already several CMDRs at war.

The direction of the game has no room for "but that playstyle means less", because otherwise that beautiful rhetoric "play how you want" ceases to exist. But it's nice to know that when it suits whiners, everything in combat is balanced around PvPers, but when bashing PvP as a playstyle "the game is PvE and just allows you lot to do your thing". At least if you're going to call PvP out as some kind of side activity you can admit to being disdainful.

*chuckles*

Because I'm a filthy pirate. Incredibly, this means I want cargo, not blood, especially not my own blood.

So I use logic to choose my targets. I simply go for those that are obviously a cargo hauler.

Upon sight, I drop my "submit now" macro & begin the interdiction tether. Sometimes the target fights back, sometimes they follow my request.

We drop into normal space. I send my "stop for scan" macro. If the target runs or shoots, I drop a "last warning" macro. If grey stop, I continue the cargo scan. If they have cargo, I request at most six tonnes, as I only have a sixteen ton hold. Often I request less. If the target begins negotiations, I discuss terms. After the transaction, I offer protection for an extra ton of cargo, his choice of commodity. This protection means I won't attack him for a week. I have a notebook at hand.

If he does not comply, I open fire. First, I target a drive. Then, I target the hatch. If he tries to shoot, or calls in friends, I kill him. I have to get build a reputation.

Now I don't see the above as unreasonable. I make every effort to open diplomatic talks. What happens to the hauler is ultimately his choice.

Also, I welcome bounty hunters. I have a macro taunting them to chase me, and another saying "Well played" if they best me.

But, despite all the efforts to be an efficient pirate who just is after cargo, only killing as a last resort, I'm near always called a griefer. Oh well, if that's a term for a true pirate now, I'll wear it with pride. Watch out cargo movers... I'm on the hunt. :]

Well there is technically nothing wrong with your approach, but you don't sound like a true pirate.

A true pirate cares only for the profit. The real pirates hunts low temp diamond NPCs.

You seem to go after commanders specifically. You just like to win, I think.:p

No issue with this at all, the cat and mouse part is fun.

Enjoy the pirating.

It's called fun. This is a GAME, no? Fact is, I'm not breaking any rules, so I'll continue robbing players when I see them, with pride.

And FWIW, I do PvE piracy as well. I also do PvE bounty hunting in Alliance space, and I do PvE trading/smuggling when the pickings of trade ships, both NPC & CMDR are low.

Shame of me though, for having the audacity to interact with other players in a mode designed for interaction when the chance arises! I may as well get my money back on this nice Razer Synapse enabled keyboard, seeing as me actually using it might hurt someone's feelings.

And yes, I like to win. That's the point of a game. Sometimes I beat the bounty hunter players too. By running! Not all PvP is a duel. I'm a rat in a field of cats. Think about that analogy.

No critique of what you do. It's absolutely fine. I think the game is best when people play it the way they want to.

I would actually like more player hunters out there. The NPCs don't make me as afraid as I would like to be.

I was just poking fun of the pirate RPG.

Please consider making an exception for a poorly shielded Asp, if you see me. ;)

In hindsight I think I slightly misinterpreted your post. My sincere apologies.

Personally I have no problems with your approach and I certainly wouldn't consider you a griefer if I were to be pirated in such a manner, unless maybe if you targetted the same person over and over. Unfortunately, I suspect your approach is the exception rather than the rule, which is why you've been tarred with the same brush as the murder-pirates. Shame really, as a genuine piratical encounter would be fun......outright murder/destruction for no obvious reason or in-game context, not so much.

this. unfortunately you and your chosen profession (despicable as it is ... in game) are victims to the same griefers ... I salute you for your efforts to proudly wear the jolly rogers ... I'd enjoy an encounter, can't say my CMDR would be happy though.

For those who say "Elite isn't a PVP game":
You're wrong. You're also right.
Elite isn't PvP like starting up a Call of Duty deathmatch, or even CQC, in that PvP is the only thing to do. Life isn't PvP either, entirely.
But the element of person on person conflict does exist - both in Elite and in our day-to-day lives.
I could be walking down the street and be confronted by someone wanting to rob me (PvP), or in Elite, flying a load of cargo to another station and interdicted by someone who wants to rob me (PvP).
I could (re)enlist in the military and be shipped off to a warzone in the Middle East (PvP), or in Elite, sign up to massacre ships of an opposed faction, which could include other players (PvP).
I could wander off into the unknown and be accosted by a drug cartel (PvP), or in Elite, simply be off exploring some part of the galaxy and be beset upon by wing of thugs (PvP).

Or None of these things could happen - I could walk the streets, join the military, or explore the unknown and nothing at all happen. And in Elite the same holds true. PvP is an Element, not a Primary Feature. If you do not wish to engage in this Element, the only way to ensure you will not is either to play Solo or in a Private Group. Now you may think this might limit your ability to interact - and it can. Or you can spend some time in Open, at one station or another, and talk to people, make some friends, and talk with them across modes. I talk with a lot of Open Only players while putting about on some planet looking for various materials in Solo, or while wing-hunting in Private groups.

Personally, I don't PvP. I don't want your cargo, I don't want to shoot you - much as it is in the real world. Yes, I have a permit to carry a concealed firearm, and I do. And I hope every time I put it on I don't have to actually use it. I feel the same way in Elite - yes, there are hardpoints on my ship, but I don't want to have to use them.

And that addresses the piracy portion of this.

Let's move on to Bounty Hunting...

I've blown up very few actual people, and only have because they've asked me to, in order to clear their own bounties.
But it is a very core career path in Elite, and one that needs little justification. If you have a bounty its because you've broken the law.
Maybe you've done nothing more than to neglect to pay your parking fines, maybe you're a cold-blooded murderer. The bounty hunters out there can't differentiate this by any scan.
So running around with a Wanted status is like covering yourself in barbecue sauce and walking in to a village of cannibals.
There are currently few options when it comes to clearing your name in Elite, however.
Death will do it, and Time will do it, and that's about it.
Perhaps in the future there will be some other options, but until then, this is what we have to work with, so use it.

Or make Open friends and go to Private Groups or play Solo. But don't expect Open to change the way it operates to cater to how you want to play. It would be little different than asking the public swimming pool to drain the other end of the pool because you're afraid of water over 4 feet deep. You're not that important, and other people don't want to swim in the shallow end.

You gonna act like a , you gonna die like a , if you want to go full neckbeard "it's game design" on me stop right there, can't stand that bull. Do the math, piracy doesn't pay nearly enough to make any sense. You can't steal exploration data. Because its a demo with demo dlc. Wake me up when this game has content, maybe in 9 years when my time in the navy is over this could actually have some basic gameplay to it

Hey .... you might want to read this: Piracy By Sandro Sammarco

can i hire you? i would even get a t6 and go back to rares trading just to be pirated that way. of course i would want you to shoot out my drives.

just tell me when.... send the Waypoints and i will try to intercept you.... was lots of fun while trying to pirate the Hussars convoy last week.

Talk about toxic. Piracy is part of the game, its a role that DB always spoke off with clear enjoyment, there are specific piracy mechanics and modules. Its okay if you cant deal with that or dont like it, but at least dont be such a sour loser about it. :)

Anyeay, good OP. Still waiting for better C&P, but them I'm going to go pirate too. :D Wish there was a way to have basic comms with npcs...

I've been saying, ELITE is 100% need of some kind of "FTL" stile interactions... i dont g care for landing on atmo , or walking on my g ship or a port if i cant INTERACT whit NPCs even on a basic level....

Well played, so long as you have a bit of patience with the macro's... some of us are in VR and can't type a reply back :)

Then, I don't think you'd be stopping my Corvette.

I stop ANYTHING... I even stooped a Vulture once

Now that I have a Engineered Bounty hunting FDL.. I look for guys like you.. so I will look out for hualers.. I cant wait for Frontier to add a distress beacon for PVP.. that way we can truly help the Hualers and guys and girls getting greifted and ganked!

Poor pirates. Still being called griefers and gankers.

Are you inclined to accept a challenge from me for a fight? I LOVE fighting Engineered FDLs....

I killed an Imperial Clipper with My T9 in open last night.

Interdicted, FA Off, Boost half-loop, wait for him to appear and then launch every homing-missile I can at him.

Dunno if he was upset that I didn't give him a chance to do the "ethical pirate" thing but this cow's got horns.:D [up]

Some may argue that the op's remarks are simply an aspect of a common criminal justifying his crimes, a symptom of his deviant psychology; Socratic self-deception, essentially. But since this is a game, some can jettison their r/l "morals" and do as they wish.

The arguments supporting the wild west danger of the game fail when weighed against the lack of ability the weak player has to call for help in any system where there are ports and security patrols. Since haulers and traders mainly are found in inhabited space, it seems to reason to me that in real life 3303, a trader has the ability to fire up his distress beacon and call for the space cops. Hell, we have this in real life on the open seas in 2017. That this element does not exist (and yet there are USS's called "Distress Call", oddly) I find that it's self defeating from a game development perspective.

I also think that in any inhabited system, the authorities would want to discourage, prevent, interdict and punish any unauthorized "taxing" or crimes against legal travelers. I get that PVP exists in this game, but it's a bit odd that victim players in inhabited space in occupied systems in 3303 have to just take it in the butt or pay without any ability to ask for police/authority intervention.

Perhaps it makes sense for the developers to add a distress beacon or transponder which can be set to various emergency conditions if they need help for piracy, road side assistance or fuel.
