Been awhile since last posting/reading here.

Couple of friends and myself wanted to check out how the game had progressed if at all, since 2015 (last time we bothered trying it, didn't even let us group up without crashing back then).
So we installed the game to see if we could get some of that PU action going...

...Is what I would say if this installation even fking worked. How do people even play this mess?!
It's bad enough that the download limiters don't actually work (they reset to "max" the moment you start patching) causing it to basically hijack your entire internet connectivity while it's active (no matter how fast it's actually downloading, usually at about half of what my connection is capable of) but the blasted thing just stops at 7.5mb to go and refuses to update from there. Looked at the forum and reddit, dozens of threads with people reporting the same issue.

I downloaded the initial 31GB in an hour and a half... and it's been chipping away at the last 7.5MB for the past 8 hours.

CIGs official response on this pathetic excuse for a launcher?

If you find that your launcher has stalled with only a small quanitity of data remaining left to download, we recommend that you use a VPN to complete the download.

Should you need a free VPN Service that we have confirmed to work as a solution for this problem we recommend checking out Tunnelbear found here. https://www.tunnelbear.com/

Should you need more assistance with this issue please feel free to contact us via our support page here. https://robertsspaceindustries.com/help"

Fkn wat.

Forum suggestions include but are not limited to:
- Verifying all your files and praying to whatever your preferred deity is.
- Forcing p2p off in your config files and praying some more.
- Play/pausing the download 30 times in the hopes that the initial "jumpstart" soaks up enough data to finish the last few megs
- Disabling/re-enabling your internet controller to "reset" the patcher.
- Disconnecting your lan cable mid-patch, pausing the download, putting it back in and starting again.

I mean what the actual hell. You have to really want to experience this game if these are the kinds of hoops you want to jump through.

Anyway, I'm glad to report that while I couldn't try this game out to see what the current PU status is, I at least have 31GB of free drive space again.

Yeah, nothing's changed. Come back in Q4 later this year, and you'll be in time for the collapse shenanigans.

Hahaaa that's great

I wonder if captain will go down with the boat?

Nope, but this may have been practice for fleeing on one.

When the glitch/bug is far more entertaining than the actual game it's trying to get in the way of.....

It's like that video (which I can't find because there are too many "Star Citizen bug" videos on YT to trawl through), where the commando is in the station watching the giant ring come off its axis and slowly crash towards the window, which would actually be pretty cool if it was an epic, CoD-style "space station collision" set piece rather than just another inadvertent balls-up.

Best part? The “Little bear” free plan on tunnelbear: 500MB/month data limit. [wacky]

Ignoring the bug for a second, the flight/combat is bad enough when you're actually playing it, but watching someone else follow an arrow round the screen with a mouse cursor just hammers home exactly how tedious and lacking in piloting skills the whole thing is.

Wow - it still really is just follow the pointer.

No sense of ship manouvreing - if anyone wanted to see what "turreting" is that looks like a good candidate.

Its what made me bail on the project very early on before all the scammy stuff started to surface. Its just terrible and completely balance breaking, worst control balance of any space-sim ever. It is a flight game with no flight at all zero, nada, zip. CR sold this game as a game for 'HOTAS' and HOTAS will be the best way to play......my big hairy backside! They are still lying and obfusticatiing about controls to this day pretending they don't understand the difference between first order and zero order taking their backers for fools.

Frontier never promised anything in particular about controls yet they delivered in spades, first order control with mouse and stick and automated gimbals, how hard was that? Also for anybody saying they prefer SC's 'flight model' , this has nothing to do with the flight model, no flight model can be balanced properly between first and zero order controls without doing stupid things that CIG try like OP missiles and fixed weapons as a sticky plaster to terrible stupid game design(game balance the CR way).

The entire gimbal/mouse targeting is so damn borked.

A better way to do it would have been:

- Make it like gimbals in Elite with a computer tracking program limited by sensor system

OR

-Insert a small delay in gimbal movement so that a mouse user actually have to FLY the darn ship and GUIDE the gimbals to the target, not just point and shoot with INSTANT gimbal movement.

Update: Finally got this trainwreck to move out of the station after restarting the entire download and spending an hour harrassing my network devices in various ways.

Like the new menus, which is about everything I could get a good view on...
I know I'm playing this on a laptop (GTX 860M 2GB, i7-4710MQ, 8GB DDR3-1600) but the performance on the lowest graphical settings even after an extensive user.cfg tweak is just downright awful.
Checked my GPU and CPU frequencies and they're running just fine (GPU at 100%, cpu at between 60-80% per thread) so that's not the problem either.

Singleplayer arena commander freeflight I'm getting between 22 and 28 fps, Port Olisar with 6 people in the instance was hovering between 15 and 19.
PU seemed otherwise relatively stable... in the 10-15 minutes that I could bear the framerates I didn't notice anything going wrong.
Didn't really check out if there was any new content, sorry.

At least the game doesn't crash as much anymore so maybe they're getting somewhere.
Physics in free flight were wonky as hell though, my Aurora would literaly catapult away, spin uncontrollably or straight up exploding when I bumped into anything at any kind of speed over 10 m/s.

Fun fact... uninstall doesn't actually work properly.
It just deletes the launcher and reg keys and leaves 31GB of game data behind.

Will try again next year, hopefully on a desktop by then.
