I must say, I'm pretty disappointed with the name plates they shower off so far,

This really is simple to resolve... If you don't like it and it costs money... Don't buy it! I'm just happy we're getting ship naming!

This is indeed true, talk with your wallet I say.

You can take it a step further though and express your thoughts in FD's very own forums in the hopes they now and then read the feedback so they have an idea why some people will not buy something and what they would need to do to make us want to spend our hard earned cash on them.

Who knows they might listen and then make even more money regardless of the people that post just to insult others because their feelings are hurt that some of us might be more critical of what we are seeing.

Its only for the plate. Your ship name shows in in-game on menus etc. for free I believe.

That's the spirit BTM!

No, your ship name wont be send to other players without plate. The free function is the same as writing your shipname on your monitor with a pencil.

I think you can still name your ship for free and others will see it in the contacts list etc. ? It just won't be printed on the side of the ship
As of now, in the beta, the only person who can see your ship name is you. And reading the patch notes this is intended behaviour. If the beta went live as of now, no-one else would see your ship name.
They don't have nameplates available in the beta at the moment so the exact mechanisms for visibility with them is unclear.

I think that is exactly the kind of stuff a company wants to hear btw. A simple "have cash, will give if x or y.".

Must say, I think I'd have preferred a basic text-only graphic, perhaps with a choice of fonts, for a suitably "industrial" look.

Those designs, especially with the failure to mirror the graphic, just look cheesy.

And also, fair warning to FDev, if they've created any designs which incorporate a US flag and they're displayed like that, they're going to get a LOT of complaints from yanks.

I dunno. On US spacesuits and military uniforms they have reverse Old Glories along with the normal one.

Yeah, I was expecting something like the BSG nameplate, with lights and 3D lettering.

What the hell got you expecting that?

There's reasonable expectation, then there's just holding Frontier to completely unrealistic expectation seemingly driven by "But I saw it on a TV show!".

Not cool, get a grip.

So this is what they will be nickle and dimming us for? It's even less effort than the block colour skins! How cynical of FD. I mean if this was the free option then fair game but there will be no free option. So this is it. This is the calibre of craftsmanship they expect people to spend money on?

No thanks.

Its very possible that these are only a start.
Its also quite possible that the plain ones will be free when they see our reaction (IE this thread)

A good decision for me that. It adds some variety for one, there's scope for a kind of licensing back story etc., and here is MY ship name is classic 'vanity'.

Can't really make any kind of judgement until we know how much and what the full range is imo. I suspect we've seen not much more than a teaser so far.

I simply cannot take this comment seriously.

Why was the bland and boring paintjobs like the vibrant packs okay? (Something that literally takes LESS THAN 5 MINUTES - aka swapping the color palette on a texture template)

But somehow, new cosmetics that requires actual design/drawing skills to create a skull with ornaments is suddenly extortion.

Cus like one be bigger and easier to notice, and ma'pa always told me that it don't matter 'bout quality and all that other fancy-like stuff as lon' as it's big and obvious so people will be all taking notice.

Or...

You gotta judge everything by its size! Don't matter about details... it just needs to be possible to ram it down someones throat and say "THIS IS ME! AND WHILST EVERYONE IS FREE TO HAVE THEIR OWN WAY IT STILL HAS TO BE THE SAME WAYS AS MINE!".... that's how you decide if something is worth it or a unacceptable scam... by its ability to slam it down someone else's throat and make sure they know what's what.

yeah yeah.. actually NO! 1st off.. a couple of dollars vs 100.. you think that is a comparison? if you want to look at something comparative, go check out star trek online or maybe swtor.. swtor currently have a 1H lightsaber model for sale in their store its 7600 cartel points.. basically a hilt with an effect, stats not included.. so do the maths -

as i said.. it has no stats on it.. so is a cosmetic item, just pixels on a stick to wave around.. and costing $60

What you fail to point out in your comparison is that there are loads of other lightsaber hilts in the game that don't cost a penny, even if you're not a subscriber. Those paid for lightsaber hilts (and all the other paid for items in the game) have free alternatives and plenty of them.

Indeed. The designs are actually fine with me.

I can't bring myself to be disappointed by them but I do hope they come up with a way for people to change the fonts.

Comic Sans FTW.

It's an example of a feature such as decals done right in another video game. Even if we do enjoy ED not all of us wish to drop our standards and expectations ever lower just to accommodate yet another example of a lazy, lackluster and cheap approach by the dev team.

You psychic Marty?

Or just cool and jaded and cynical?

To be honest I wish it didn't require a "reaction".

It's not a free to play game, and trying to push a free to play relationship on paying customers, I think paints Frontier in a bad light.

It's a two way deal, do right by players and you will have goodwill and support, take the Michael and people will resent it.

I know it's not always so black and white, but I honestly don't think it's that hard to see what's reasonable and what's not.

So you look at all this and you look at previous patterns, skin prices up with quality down, $15 single skins, gating features off without a secondary payment, yes people have to "react" or it seems it will go one way. =/

$15 for single skins are the extreme exception, not the rule however.

Im in no way shape or form a fashionista but I cant even begin to tell you how I despise that particular make of hat.

If I could ban one single item of clothing then that would be it.

That is my opinion and others might share it just like its your opinion that the quality of paints are down.

I just have to accept that people like and wear those hats and companies sell them. You need to accept that Frontier makes paints you don't like and charges money for them.

It is FTP. These items don't add anything to the play mechanics.
