What's with all the guys using female avatars?

Female wood elf Nightblade in ESO here.

And contrary to all pseudo-phsycological explanation attempts, i am a straight up and self assured male all the way through, always have been.

Why do i roll some female chars in games ?

Because i find it aesthetically pleasing and not at all interfering with me being a male.

That char on the screen isn't "me", as in i don't identify with it or role play it, it's my means to interact with the game world.

At best it has to be "relatable", for example, i struggle slightly more with creating relatable humanoid-animal (cats, lizards, etc) sort of avatars, regardless of gender.

So, just stop reading to much into the "why", folks.

I just explained my reasoning, and you can be sure there are many other explanations.

None of which should really matter to you.

This. I always create some version of me sneaky male dunmer, sneaky male human, sneaky male etc. Friend of mine doesnt 'connect' with his avatar that way, so he made a visually pleasing female cmdr. Neither is a sign of psychological blabla.

And?

People do what they want if the game presents them the options to do it. Is fiction, it does not mean anything unless you want to.
There is no need to look deeper into something that is pure whim.

Preferences are a wonderful thing.

A few people know real life is actually a computer game, being played by beings beyond the comprehension of most of us.

Some of those beings are female. They play men in our 'real life' as they want a change. Some of those men in our 'real life' play Elite: Dangerous, and they're more likely to play female characters.

Cheers, Phos.

Why does ANYONE play as an Argonian?

Hmm?

From the character creator's race description:

"....giving them (Argonians) bonuses to healing, healing received, restoration staves, poison resistance, potion use, swimming speed, health and magicka"

In other words, they make for excellent Templars :)

I remember in my early days going on forums for very male-orientated games, I used to think, "Wow! there are so many female players! Way more than the men! I don`t get it!"

Then later I realised they were all male... I thought it was weird how so many of them were super-sexy.

Why does ANYONE play as an Argonian?

Hmm?

because they are like micro dragons? And they aren't as maisntream as elfes. And honetsly, Also, they look funny and colorful.
In older games like Might and Magic or the Dark Eye I always mixed my group with a funny bunch of people. It ads fun and diversity. In games with only one avatar it is often leading to many replays of various kinds.

At least I assume they are guys, with cmdr names like John, James etc.

Stan Lee, of Marvel fame, has created over 300 characters, many of them female. When a comic book or manga artist draws a female character and creates a story around that character, people tend not to think twice about it. I'm a man who is happy to be a man, yet I've created female avatars in various MMOs. I'm not pretending to be that female, I'm creating a story with a female character. It really is no different than the aforementioned comic artist or script writer of a movie with a female lead or the FDevs who designed the female aspects of Elite's character creator. I'm speaking for myself, mind you.

Now I will say that when I played the original Mass Effect series, I was much more comfortable playing the male version of Shepherd. That game was different than other games I've played. In that game, I actually felt like "I" was CMDR Shepherd, and playing female Shepherd broke that immersion for me.

Speaking as a lesbian trapped in a man's body, I can never decide which gender to make my avatar.

Me to! DANG!

I even told it to my GF, and she exclaimed it was 'better this way'.... which left me even further confused...

:S

This thread again.

When I get chance to, I'm going to login on my 2nd account and change my avatar into the most ruggedly handsome guy with a luxurious beard and the chiselled features to make Adonis cry tears of envy.

So weird and creepy, right.

Because there aren't any chimp avatars in game.

Although, as it turns out I'm not an actual chimp IRL. I'm really a genetically engineered intelligent dolphin, at first it was a real pain using the HOTAS with no hands, but once they got the neural link sorted, job's a good 'un.

Mine's female, because females are hot :D

Lokvette is a female in all the games I use the name in. Had we been able to have more than one cmdr, I would have had a male one too. Just used Lokvette instead of my main gamer name, but then I could have chosen about five other female names I use in gaming...

Think I used Lok as she was my main in SWKOTR, being a female true blood Sith, and was playing it when I installed ED. Her holo me is how I imagine a character out of the Alastair Reynolds book. Pushing Ice.

Probably because they don't have to bleed for 5 days a month in real life.

Let them have their fantasy, so long as I see real people on my HUD that, perhaps, may even respond to my messages - that's my fantasy.

Z...
