Maybe I agree, maybe i do not... I started to play april 2016 on the verge of 1.6 and 2.1 and ED was really hell to play for me. And Yes, I finally got myself a conda after 10 months, but I have not flown it yet, because I only dare to fly it when it is size A and I have enough insurance money. And with that, my statement on the game is complete. What is the fun in having to wait until the ship is A-rated?
Well, I'd either keep on trading in whatever cargo ship I had before the Anaconda, or use the Anaconda itself to trade. Seems straightforward enough to me?
Elite is really to hard for me to fly it with less then A-status ships. Also, I tried to learn bounty hunting with smaller ships, but for some reason I always end up being shot dead bij the police forces or wanted in the system.
Don't shoot the cops! And make sure to scan your target before attacking.
It helps if you avoid using beam lasers, especially any gimballed or turreted ones, as the minute any NPC uses chaff, there's no telling where your lasers will hit - and the way they detect friendly fire, every 'hit' is a counted tick, and beam lasers 'hit' with every single drawn frame....
Tried passenger missions and barely survived that (one time died for carrying a criminal, one time died for visiting HARD G planet, one time died for incidently jettisoning cargo); all deaths after hours of flying. And that is just my latest carrier, everything in advance has the same story line (too hard, too slow progress). Well, at least for my taste
Pay attention to the fine print when picking up passengers or landing on a planet (use boost and use it often when near planet surfaces! You can also use it in combo with lateral thrust, so holding vertical thrust + boost and pitching up will just about save you from any hard landing!) and, well, I guess make sure it wasn't that "jettison all" keybind that nobody actually needs or uses.
Tried engineering and died lots of time by carrying engineering stuff... Interdictions are still hell, but I git-used-to-it and know how to run mostly...
Yeah, interdictions for carrying *any* commodity are a pain... 4 pips to ENG, 2 to SYS, or 4 to SYS if you're actually taking fire while the FSD charges back up, odds are you'll be alright?
Well, If it was not for the 1984 version (still in my possession...) I would have given up far earlier, but I decided I want that conda! So another 300M credits will make it A-rated (maybe I dare to fly with 8B PP and 7B Thrusters and 8B power distribution; that will severely shorten the waiting time...) and I will try to mine myself 10 painite for the next engineer (i want to do that in the conda, yes I know I can do that in my ASP also...)
Certainly easier in the Anaconda, plus you can always pick up other valuable things and make it a profitable mining run...just make sure to not sell that 10 painite
And then? Well, if I reach that within two months, I will probably keep playing and progress with other engineers
If it takes too long, I make my ten painite run and probably stop playing alltogether, convincing myself i am too old to play this game. And I know that sucks and I know i am whining, but that is truly how I feel about the game. I really love it and always loved the 1984 version, but it is just too hard for me
Well, there's the suggestions I've made thus far, plus with combat, have you customized all your control bindings til controlling everything feels comfortable and natural? PIP management - well, basically, 4 pips in SYS while you move the other 2 pips around - is key, as is manipulation of boost and lateral thrust.
To me, it's like riding a bike...once you've got a comfortable seat, fresh tires, the handlebars and pedals are all within good reach, and the brakes work fine, the rest is just getting used to it, and before you know it you don't hardly even think about it, it just happens.
Well, probably closer to flying a helicopter in complexity, to be fair, but still!
