#support3rdparty - Why we temporarily shut down our sites.

Hi everyone. Just letting you know we've seen the thread. Please be patient while we bring this to the attention of the developers.

Just quickly want to mention that we always try to communicate as openly and effectively with our community as possible, and we appreciate all the hard work that goes in to the maintenance of these useful sites and tools.

I have also sent a PM to the OP, too :)

Thanks for your patience everyone!

My patience is quickly running thin, given the poor performance by FDev lately. The onus is upon FDev to fix the results of their negligence. You will resolve this and you will resolve it immediately.

Third party tools provide game mechanics which should be part of a well developed game but aren't. Please frontier support the authors of these site and programs who, quite frankly support you and enable this game to be what it is. Many CMDRs rely on these sites and the game is a lot more complicated and frustrating without them. New players and old benefit from their help and community building support. Without them there would be a lot more complaints directed your way with regards to poor or missing development of core gameplay structures. These 3rd party tools fill gaps in your development process that would otherwise need fixing by your own staff, taking them away from other areas and quite likely stalling the current flow of this game and it's story. Rather than ignored they should be celebrated..

Hi Frontier Developers,

I am loving the game that you have worked so hard to develop, but I have only really been able to grasp its complexity through the help of these third party tools, Which have also helped me connect into the Elite: Dangerous community, Therefore persuading me to purchase optional cosmetic extras to show off how awesome my ships are and to really get into the RP element of the community.

I can say with a very strong level of certainty that if it were not for the existence of many of these 3rd Party websites, applications and tools, and the community that runs them, that I would no longer be playing this amazing game, because I would have tired from the complexity and vagueness of certain elements of the game.

Please support the use of these third party applications, as they are only making the game better, and the galaxy massive (beyond words) but approachable.

Keep up the good work.

Childish and immature effort to garner symnpathy... you just lost some.

I wonder, you think ED is playable without 3rd party software? I started to play without it, still have the sheet I wrote numerous prices on...
Of course, you may argue about the way they choose to do it, but who else but they themselves can draw a line and say: FD, we need more support. For me, the choice is like this: Without 3rd party tooling, I could not play ED, so I support them, just as I support FD in making ED in the first place. It is not a choice between one of the two: it is asking them both to work together, as they can not function properly without each other

Whole heartily agree. INARA & EDDB plus Coriolis and ED shipyard make the game so much more user friendly and fun, removing a lot of tedium.

PLEASE FD LISTEN! - if these people who are so decicated to your game and work so hard to helping the community feel forced to resort to this do yourselves, and us, a favour and heed their words please.

Pretty please with knobs on :)

You have all my support !!
The game would'nt be so enjoyable without all these tools: each of them are complete missing part of the game interface itself !!
Please Frontier, open your mind and let elite lovers do the part they want to !

A fair point.

Pick a time when the dev's are busy sorting out update issues, and with a well-publicised event in the immediate future, and then make demands which they must know there is no likelihood of anybody being free to respond to in a timely manner.

Real classy. [sour]

They've already had plenty of time to respond.

The VAST majority of players (both new and experienced) leverage these types of tools. Just because a small sub-set of super nerds choose to play the game with the barely functional levels of information provided in game exclusively does not mean that the third-party tools aren't necessary. That is what's called an "exception to the rule." The tools are absolutely necessary for an enjoyable experience for most players.FD not only owes these guys support and a legit response, they also owe them an apology based on the timeline of how they've been treated. Just blatant disrespect for a linchpin of the community. Sad.

Never thought I'd have to rep a comment from one of SDCs most notorious players ;)

May I ask if these APIs are supposed to be public, or have you reverse-engineered them?
Go back and read the entirety of the OP and the answer should be clear. TL;DR - yes. Use of the Companion API was OK'd sometime around Feb 2016. The Player Journal was always meant for general use by players.

here we go again ...
new patch, same issues, years later ...

i'm all behind
improved effort toward tools makers,
more solid API with revision system (backward-forward compability)
usable bugtracker (we have none anyway, just some forum)
better communication with creative part of community (not just tools)

but we can clearly and easily place other failures into spotlight,
like the whole player-group leaders subforum becoming useless wasteland and mostly ignored by FD
next to the featureset promised but 1.5(or 2) years later still same

Until frontier implement thier own versions of these tools I fully support the STRIKE !

Burn some sheep !

I've been lurking for some time, but made a forum account now to say that I value and support these third-party tools. I hope Frontier choose to communicate as the game is poorer without them.
