#support3rdparty - Why we temporarily shut down our sites.

come on its 2017.
you can claim Terrorism when someone disagrees with you.

Exactly. What we're seeing now are a lot of people who were dead-set against the 3PD's trying to recover the damage to their egos because FD/Ed L. handled this like professionals and came to an agreement. To the anti-3pd crowd there was no way to handle this but to ignore *or* attack the 3PD's in kind. I guess we can all be thankful that FD and Ed aren't like them.

I hope nobody happy with the way this was conducted will find any objections to the next SDC operation to strongarm Frontier.

Well, if they can muster 100 mostly supportive pages of forum thread within 8(?) hours, they're welcome to try :p

Full support of your actions Frontier needs to do more to encourage 3rd party groups and support such groups for the benefit of players and the game.

I'm amazed this bothered anyone at all.

The only 3rd party site I use is Inara, but only for the fancy license in my signature. Their Engineer data is virtually worthless since it's months out of date anyway.

For all other information, I just...you know...play the game.

After speaking in private with the OP and other involved community developers, we have all agreed that it was best for the community to bring the websites back up as soon possible. This will be happening simultaneously at 19:00 UTC (where possible) for all the sites.

We have made a commitment to work more closely with the third party developer community to address concerns and support these features which the community use and value on a daily basis.

These ongoing communications will include developers from other third party websites who may be interested, not just those listed in the OP. If you are an active and established third party Elite Dangerous developer, get in touch with community@frontier.co.uk

We all hope that clears things up!

Thanks everyone,

Ed

Ed,

To you and the team at FDev, thank you VERY much for taking this so seriously. It has long been an issue that even I, a non-developer have heard plenty of just by being around the community, and as a frequent user of the tools, I look forward to seeing how much better they will be with better support.

I will, however, express some skepticism. I have a lot of faith in FDev, I've been far more of a believer than not, but I have also seen enough to know that actions mean far far more. I hope you are able to take action sooner than later - obviously all things will take time, but this really needs to not be 'on the roadmap', but a rather more urgent consideration.

That being said, I still love you guys, keep on getting better!

I like what you did but it's sad that we as a community need to resort to this kind of action to get you guys moving.

This is what I'm really getting at here.

I've seen several people write that this was too far...however, in the story we get from 3pdevs they were being ignored.

So, I ask again. How else would they have gotten Frontier's ear for something that is clearly important to many players?

So, lacking a meaningful response, you suggested I took the low road? It looks like Arrogant may been the perfect word to use.

Fly safe, Commander.

I have lots of replies, but what is the point. If your going to be abusive, i'm not interested.

I fully support this action too !
All tools that we use for a better gameplay experience are tools that should be developed by Frontier and not players !
These tools are amazing, and now I can't imagine play without these tools !!! My team think about the same things !

Frontier, Open your eyes and see all the community work ! All elite dangerous players that I know are using community tools, we love it and we need it ! Develop your own tools or be grateful and reward community tools !

You can't donate you our program. We don't accept money.

After countless hours asking them for a little bit of help, i'm afraid the guys patience was exhausted. And we have tried and tried to engage. We don't actually want very much, just some advanced notice if they are going to change things, and a way of reporting bugs back which is not lost in QA.

Can I ask why you decided shutting down sites with little to no warning as the only thing left that you could do?

Why not post here way before it got to this stage after having no luck trying to speak privately with Frontier.

I'd wager you would of gotten a better reaction from people (ie. No one accusing you of holding Frontier to ransom) and would of fully put the onus on Frontier to communicate better.

If nothing had happened after a week or two then by all means bring the sites down to draw even more attention. At least people could of been warned/expected them to be down.

I agree with others that it seems the timing was literally to cause headaches for the Frontier during this weekends event (and bank holiday weekend).

Don't get me wrong, the effort guys/girls like you put in to creating sites like these is amazing and I hope the communication between you and FD gets better but I feel you picked the wrong thing and time to do this.

I do not want FD spending time and resources catering to developers of third party apps. ED needs all the dev help that FD can muster. Third party site operators should be content with what they get and stop trying to disrupt FD dev work with calls for attention.

I have to agree, I would rather they spend more time developing in-game features.

Don't get me wrong there is some great work out there and a lot of hard work has gone into it.

All I see is a black mail attempt to get more out of FD, at the expense of its users.

If you shut down your sites, the game will continue and other sites will crop up.

I would love to know what kind of guarantee they received that this wouldn't happen again.

The OP was pretty clear in his timeline about how FD constantly picked up and dropped the ball for months at a time.

There is no reason to believe that FD will keep up with communication AFTER Drew's event this weekend.

I just noticed INARA engineer info was recently updated....looks good to me. Don't be so impatient for free stuff...really.

Today I learned that saying "I'm providing a service and hosting it on my own dime, the least you could do is not make me scramble every time you change something randomly because I'm getting burned out and will probably just quit if you keep making me waste my time" is both extortion and terrorism.

You have to appreciate that what you propose, is not at all what happened at all. A systematic scheme was undertaken to use our voices, to get them, the group included with the OP, to get the attention they wanted.

I'm betting, that if that group submitted the Post, without the extortion, they would have achieved their hands goals. But, their services being invaluable to the players, they decided to abuse our relationship, and use us to do their bidding.
