Lifetime pass payback time

Is there any indication from FD that the lifetime passes are not going to be honoured? This is more speculation that has somehow morphed into fact.

No hard indications either way, it is the apparent uncertainty that some are concerned about.

A simple public statement by FD would clear up the matter, but perhaps they feel it is unnecessary since they plan to honour the spirit of the LEPs even if the precise nature of the original LEP wording leaves doubt in some people's minds given fairly recent events.

I got a Lifetime expansion pass for £120.00 on September 2015. I believe that is would pay for itself several times over. However I find it interesting that paintjobs, decals, skip kits etc are not covered by the pass so these are not an expansion to the game? It would have been a great way to thank those people that made that commitment to the game in the early stages.

I'm not personally concerned about paintjobs etc, but you make a good point about the LEP being considered the value choice. I bought it for the same reason.

Time will tell but right now it does not feel like I made the wise choice, and this is frustrating.

While I get what you are saying, it was not included in the concept of the lifetime expansion pass, and would suddenly insanely lopside the value insanely so, it is already an insanely nice deal, getting all expansions, be it season or otherwise for free, cosmetics would frankly just put it on a level of absurd, especially against those that for one reason or another might not have been able to get it. That and it would plainly be a bad business decision.

So yeah, you can't begin supporting one side more all of a sudden, you got what you paid for at a great deal. You can't suddenly years later "Hey we supported you very early, give us more." you already got what you paid for :)

And I can feel it was still the right choice, but neither of us are basing that on hard information.

I do not think that the commercial form of the game has an influence on the Lifetime pass. As long as the game progresses, the Lifetime pass receives

I hope so.
We better get what we paid for,ppl saying i had my moneys worth don't cut it with me.
Just because people say they have already got their money's worth (I am one of these people), doesn't mean we believe that the Lifetime Pass has "expired". A Lifetime Pass is exactly that - a pass for upgrades for the lifetime of Elite: Dangerous. This is the case until FD state otherwise, and I very much doubt they'd even think about doing that (they also know what a lifetime pass is).

None at all. It is simply paranoia.

FD, in my view, would only need to make a public statement if they were going to dishonour lifetime passes. Unless such a statement exists, the only valid conclusion is that there really is no issue at all...

Been playing since Beta 1, log in most days I'm around. So I think I I've easily got my £100 worth. I'd throw more money at them if it helped.

I agree - but it still does not change the fact that at least some feel uncomfortable with the uncertainty given no details of the new deployment model have been made public - No news is good news would seem to apply but there is always the possibility of being unpleasantly surprised. Assumptions being the mother of all screw ups.

Personally, I am unconcerned at the moment but I am prepared to be unpleasantly surprised and will not react well *IF* it ever happens which I am 99% sure it wont.

Like many here, I've got a lifetime pass. Some people via kickstarter, some paid into. When I jumped in with a lifetime pass, Horizons was for the future but it was known that season 2 would be in the £30-40 range. I thought that with a 10 year plan, maybe 5 seasons (or at least major updates such as Horizons), then it would, in the end, be worth it. I was kind of hoping for something as revolutionary as horizons for S3, 4 etc, but it seems like FD are running out of steam for major gameplay changes.

With a season 3 looking less likely and FD moving to a more random DLC method of delivery, do any of you other paid lifetime pass holders think that you'll get your monies worth from it in the end, or do you feel a little conned by the way things appear to be moving? I've not decided where on the side of the fence I lie at the moment.... (I guess it depends on S3 / 4 or whatever replaces the season idea)

I'm not really playing anymore... In fact started losing the will over a year ago... Still got my money's worth...

I think this worry is unfounded, people seem to think that Fdev are doing nothing at the moment, whereas they are working on Alien content, networking issues, developing current content, and also thinking how the next development of Elite happens.

The development isn't as fast as we or they hoped for but its still happening. There is this undercurrent of nothing is happening in the game whereas there is a lot happening right now! But its easier to be negative I suppose.

I am also worried about the LTP situation, at this stage of the games development it has not been worthwhile, would have been cheaper to just the the Horizons season pass as outside of that there has been nothing in addition for LTP holders.

Fdev should give us some dlc for free for the amount of money we have contributed tothe devolopment of this game

Not sure if you understand the LEP, but "getting some DLC for free" is exactly what is going to happen and the reason most people bought it...

You are basically telling them to continue what they are doing...

Yup - pretty much this. FD said they will change from a "seasons" model to something else. They did not say they will stop development. They did not say lifetime pass holders will have to pay for future updates.

I don't see why people are getting up over stuff they are making up in their heads.

I'm a premium beta backer, do I feel I have had my monies worth? Yes and some! I play about 4-5 hours per week due to real life commitments but it's been worth every penny. However the game moves forward I expect to outlay no more money for new or updated content, so yes it is still worth it.
If I add in the cost of a 2 new computers, Hotas Joystick, Voicepacks and an Oculus Rift all to play Elite than the £100 initial cost is dirt cheap in comparison and that does not account for store purchase etc.
Now to delete this post before the wife starts adding it up. [yesnod]

I think that Frontier's decision to move away from the "Seasons" terminology simply reflects the fact that is has become obvious that major releases are not going to be released at regular annual intervals. The original plan, I think, was to release a new major version around Christmas time each year.

Look at the release dates:

Elite Dangerous 1.0 - December 16, 2014
Elite Dangerous 2.0 "Horizons" - December 15, 2015

For various reasons version 2.1 "Engineers" was delayed for several months. That delay pushed the rest of the development cycle out so that releasing version 3.0 in December of 2016 was simply an impossibility.

"Lifetime Pass" remains precisely that. We get all future updates regardless of if they are called "Seasons" or "DLCs" or whatever other terminology Frontier decides to label future content.

Sorry, to clarify i meant items such as decals/ suits and paintjobs.

I was not referring to DLC in terms of expansions.
