A Guide to Minor Factions and the Background Sim

2nd Edit: Interestingly, the stuff by walt on the front page contradicts itself... in one comment it says it's missions and combat actions that affect influence in a war state... but in a picture in the same post...

And this is the summation of the BGS in a nutshell! LOL!

Looking at this...the above picture does state it is from possibly outdated data....

Above all, though, with the BGS, after any update, large or small...everything needs to be reverified to see what changes the devs might have snuck in.

Has anyone ever witnessed the following scenario?

1) Faction X controls at least one asset in some system Y, but is not the controlling faction of that system
2) Faction X gets pushed down to 1.0% influence in system Y and starts a Retreat state
3) ????

I assumed a faction can never retreat from a system if they owned assets in it. I mean...who will control the assets owned by that faction after they leave? But today, I witnessed that the Retreat state can happen, but I wonder whether it can actually succeed (as in, faction X leaving system Y) and if so, what would happen to the assets owned by X?

They are given to the system owner. Been done to us at least twice when other groups decided to nuke us. Funnily enough we bounced right back ;-)

facion can retreat from a system they have assets in; assets go to the controlling faction in that case (we have gained several stations in that way, a good way if you don't want to match influence.). if the controlling faction retreats, assets and control go to the second strongest faction (reported by CI/ Jane Turner).

Tick 'late' again today? I put that in quotes, because it was late on Saturday, but perhaps the whole tick clock has shifted back a few hours from its recent 17:00 to 18:00 GMT/UTC slot, and now will be around 21:00 to 22:00 GMT/UTC (if Sat's is anything to go by).

I only noted a change yesterday around 22:30 BST (so 21:30 GMT/UTC) which is another hour away for me.

Tick hasn't happened for my systems either... although states have changed. I was in expansion active yesterday... today it's finished (and my faction has appeared in the intended new system, complete with influence and all)

I have been checking so sporadically lately I can't tell anymore on the tic to be honest.

Almost makes me wonder if I am off a day on my sheets. lol

EDIT; Apparently no.

The cycle tic is early, 9-9:30 Server time now, so check the sheets if you are off thinking its late.

Looks like the Tick has shifted to 10.30 PM UK time.

Will keep an eye on it. Early evening tick was perfect as it allowed us to set up ops for the Euro and US evening time players. Now its less than optimal, particularly if emergency action is required!

Likewise. What I think my faction's BGS players would most like is consistency. If we know the tick is at 10pm UK time we can live with that, but it keeps moving back and forward by up to a few hours each day, it really throws us off.

Is that 22:30 GMT, or 22:30 BST?

Last night I arrived back at our Home System at 22:15:46 (Journal Timestamp), or 23:15 UK time (I know, on a work night!!) and when I docked the System Status (via Starport Services) displayed updated Influences, whilst the System Status on the Right Menu and the Factions on the System Map showed the old figures, meaning that none of my journey was correctly tracked in the EDDN.

Is there a new delay in the middle of the Click? Actually, yes, there is. But is it meant to be there or a bug?

The tick is implemented in three phases. Description here: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showt...ing-the-Tick?p=5737544&viewfull=1#post5737544
