speaking of hypothetical things that dont make any sense.

I wonder if/when Fdev will introduce the AI civilization that has been hinted at existing in exile in some of the official books that were made when the game was released.

By now they must have evolved to not even consider humans or thargoids even relevant, exceeding both in technology so much that they would hardly even notice them if they decided to take over the entire quadrant.

Pfft, the PROPER Star Trek universe has trans-warp now, which is faster than anything in Elite's universe. Even Witchspace.
And starships in Star Trek can be modified to do anything you want. Including time travel. Because that's just how Starfleet rolls.
And the Borg are just a minor inconvenience these days. (assuming the level of tech advancement is on par with the future Starfleet as seen in Voyager.)

And, in Star Trek... the Federation would already have dispatched thousands of science vessels and scientists to the wreck sites. Using scanners we could only dream of. [yesnod]

ED's universe is a bit naff really [haha]

Agree with this a lot [big grin] As long was we are never ever going to mention the abomination that is the alt trek we currently have. Of course we also must not play the "Kirk Card" - which he would have either punched or seduced all the Major Powers into line within about 40 minutes. Or the "Picard Card" - where he would have expertly negotiated with everyone, and now they are all sitting around enjoying some nice Earl Gray. Hot. If we are lucky we won't have to think about playing the "Archer Card". If we do, however, then we can also play the "Q Card" afterwards. You never know what will happen but you're guaranteed an interesting ride!

Voyager can take multiple anti-matter ground launched missile hits. Can't see any ship currently in the ED universe competing with that, never mind Photo or even Quantum Torpedoes. Heck, even the Delta Flyer would wipe the floor with us. Lets not even think about what the Defiant's firepower would do. Away from the combat side of things, they have sensor networks that can give visual images of things light years away. They have transporter, replicator, non-organic sentient life (Data, and various photonic entities), access to multiple dimensions, they have custom planetary bookmarks, they have multiple types of ground vehicles, they have tractor beams. They also have Star Trek Continues, in my humble thoughts, a fantastic 'fan' made TOS series, with a few excellent cameos. I seem to have gone off topic a little now.

Where the ED universe seems to have the edge is our Frame Shift Drives. in STU (depending on which chart you use) it takes years to travel across our galaxy. In ED it takes a couple of days (maybe less if you don't like sleep). So we can either run away very well, or rush to our doom in the confident knowledge that we were beaten fairly and squarely by the Alliance I mean Federation..

eta: With the exception of hyperspace conduits.

The thing is you're talking about United Federation of Planets wusses who agonise for an eternity and always back out from the morally hard choice so ultimate destruction of a foe is never an option for them. Can you imagine Hudson or Duval pausing even a millisecond to end an existential threat forever with no obvious risk of blowback? Also the obvious point is that assuming the Borg personal shields are the same tech as their ship shields they are absolutely defenceless against projectile weapons, if that's the case the Borg would be toast with WW2 tech let alone anything more advanced.

Thargoids vs Cenobites vs Borg.


Cenobites win. Thargoid vs Borg war uncovers ancient ruins, which exposes a relic that had been buried and protected. Borg sensors detect the relic and they try to assimilate it by correctly solving the puzzle, with the unintentional help of the Cannon group.

Portal to the Cenobites is then opened and glorious suffering falls on the entire galaxy. Awesome.

If we strip away the plot armour generated by Kirk et al and look at any conflict involving ships that don't carry a major character things don't look so good. One thing to remember is that Star trek ships are like battleships or cruisers and are built to fight similar ships. They may have more firepower but could they actually bring it bear on anything in ED? Most ED ships seem like they would seriously out fly anything in Star Trek and could get into blind spots like between the nacelles of the Enterprise. It's debatable whether transporters could lock on small fast moving targets. Sure a single Star Trek ship should beat any ED ship in single combat but how well do they cope with multiple small targets? I seem to recall that at the Maquis managed to hold their own against Starfleet and the Cardassians using small raiders. I suspect a typical Starfleet Constellation class might struggle against a wing of SLF armed Keelbacks. Speed traversing the galaxy could make a huge difference. EDs ships seem well suited for guerrilla hit and run tactics and once we get hull repair drones and drone synthesis they would be much better at 'living off the land' In contrast Starfleet seems to rely on a lot of static infrastructure to keep it's ships supplied and the relatively small numbers of ships they possess would largely be tied up trying to protect the infrastructure. If you cut off their supplies of Dilithium they are crippled, whereas to do the same to EDs ships you'd have to destroy most of the stars in the galaxy

But our iconic weapon is LASERs. They wouldn't even get through a Star Trek ship's navigation shields.
