Star Citizen Thread v6

What, Wing Commander: The Movie isn't good enough for you? He changed cinema forever with that one. That's why Star Wars is always put down as a "cheap Chris Roberts ripoff."

It would be interesting to see perfectionism somehow infect Star Citizen, but I would be more inclined to applaud a sudden infestation of basic competence. Tho not as flashy, it tends to be something good to have when executing an ambitious project. But what do I know, I've only worked on things that were released.

I do love good sarcasm .... as for the movie Wing Commander, it's been awhile since I saw it but I believe it too was a box office flop.

I agree with you on that, the bit about CR wanting bullet trajectories calculated from the weapon barrels certainly is laughable because it's absolutely true.
It's like the snoopy caps, and the other stuff that drove the whole art team to walk out that one time.

You know Behemion figured this out in ArmA 3 a long time ago and produced a superb game in ArmA 3. And in far less time unless I'm mistaken.

Not sure on that, Arma3 does calculate the ballistic from the gun. IIRC so do all the others too. Included Operation Flashpoint, the first.

that's what I replied to him before

IIRC the stalker games also have such ballistic calculation, as are few other games in existence... (not sure if DCS also have it)

No, no QT so no travelling beyond Daymar in the 15minute window beween resets

Yeah, I would imagine CIG are struggling to unload a planet size object container and load in a new planet size object container within a 10 second quantum jump. I guess they will fix this by making quantum travel take far longer.

Brian Chambers stated during the stream that they only disabled Quantum Jumping to keep everyone in the same area for gameplay. Otherwise, there's no issues flying between the moons/planetoids that are in 3.0.

I play and develop for DCS, yes, all weapon systems have (more or less) accurate ballistic, ordnance and payload delivery.

TL;DR: in DCS all the stuff that leaves your vehicle does so from the point you'd expect it would.

It would be on par with her marketing qualifications but seriously, I think its fake. She simply wouldnt do this now would she?

I think there is actually a concept about a plasma barrier to contain atmosphere in a room with e.g. a hanger door open to space.

Theres also magnetic shields so the concept of a "shield" is investigated and worked upon today. I find it hard to believe that there will ever be a shield protecting you against everything I rather think there will be highly specialized shield types for specific forces. As far as visible laser beams go I dont find them unrealistic to be honest. You simply dont think far enough. Regular bullets fired from regular guns these days are also "invisible" to the naked eye, you mostly see the impact and thats it. In order to help shooters in darkness or bad visibility conditions there are tracer rounds which dont change the bullet itself but make it visible due to a coating of magnesium (might be outdated, but they used this when I checked in on it). Same problem applies to lasers. The beam is invisible so without special visual gear you would never know how or when to adjust your aim. Today lasers are made visible by firing them through a medium be it liquid or gas in order to make them visible to a crowd or observer. With technology at your hands enabling you to jump light years in an instant I find the notion of visible laser beams anything but laughable. 20 years ago people couldnt believe there would be technical gadgets around today the average citizen takes for granted you know....just saying.

If you needed any more evidence they've got absolutely nothing of substance, they're interviewing the guy who built the desks.

BWAHAHAHA thats exactly what I thought as well

We're watching them seamlessly go into space and back down, literally as I'm typing this. They've done it multiple times on stream already. There's no cutscene.

Any links available? Otherwise I ll hold my horses until I see a livestream about this. Your words make it sound like a proof of concept demonstration and not part of a game loop. And thats probably what it is too.

Brian Chambers stated during the stream that they only disabled Quantum Jumping to keep everyone in the same area for gameplay. Otherwise, there's no issues flying between the moons/planetoids that are in 3.0.

Why is this important when people dont do parties in this tiny level? I heard about "max 2 people on screen" so the real reason for this decision would be because there is nothing outside the boundaries of this tiny level and they dont want people to figure out this is a completely disconnected dwarf level for SC. I ll try to free an hour or two for the livestream today even tho I m undecided if I really should waste my precious time like that only to get further insight into a distraction and deception. Chris Roberts stated that Star Citizen would be fully released 2014 and look where we are. I dont really care what Brian Chambers said especially when whatever he said can be further modified by adding more words at a later time when they realize they ve been caught (you know....what CRoberts does all the time)

All I know is that this is NOT 3.0 but at best a tiny extract of what to expect once the thing is finished whenever that might be. And in addition they offer this sorry excuse of content to strangers and outside people ignoring their backers who enabled them to get this far in the first place. Talk about respect or better...the utter lack of it. I understand and share the frustration of many on Reddit about this. But it has been like this for a while now. News usually break on outside platforms or third-party websites. The backers who were supposed to be "in the loop" and have "insight into the most transparent development ever" are usually the last to learn stuff and most of the time are left alone with information, having to figure out stuff by themselves or try to come up with possible explanation because holy CRoberts is too busy to waste his time with people who pay his salary.

It's probably more not believing a company that's lied often before.

I think you meant this. But yeah, if I deny somebody who openly lied into my face multiple times credibility and want hard evidence then suddenly **I** am the hater and am spinning conspiracies :)

Conspiracies are usually "wild" theories who lack evidence and are so unrealistic and improbable that they fall into the category of "Fantasy". Usually they are so far-fetched that points of proof are in the far future or evidence simply cannot be provided by realistic means. Oh wait.....that sounds exactly like Star Citizen doesnt it? :D

The latest Star Citizen fan account has been broken out of storage for gamescom I see. Better make some good use of this before it inevitably gets banned.

Oh yeah that's it! Of course! Nevermind that the thing can barely hold together for 5 minutes before crashing, therefore preventing anyone from getting too far away, or that this is blatantly just a cryengine map, it's definitely for the purposes of this absolute joke of a stream featuring glitching animation and flying cars. I mean imagine if they'd actually done what they had claimed and built a full scale planet with seamless surface-orbit transition. How silly they would look if one of the streamers traveled too far from the other. How embarrassing!

They've been working on this junkpile since 2011, apparently spending at least the last year on this one patch alone, and it appears to be missing most of the features they'd promised. It doesn't even seem to have AI or missions.

to be positive - visually it does looks great and makes me want space legs in Elite even more. And yes, from what I can tell they do fly seamlessly from space to surface. Shame flight model is still no existent.

lol Brian Chambers confirmed they're aiming for December. Only one year after Chris Roberts said it would be out. 12 month delay for a patch of a pre-alpha. [up]

It prob won't be december either. Maybe for gamescom 2018 they'll have some more of 3.0 to show. Perhaps another ship sale too.

They did say December of 2017?
