Sure but if you're going to Colonia anyway [1], courier packets won't harm your jump range, so why not pick up 20 before you go and get an extra 40 million on arrival? It's basically money for nothing at that point.

Honk-jumping to/from Colonia will make about 20 million in exploration data one way, in a relatively fast ship. More if you slow down to detail scan, less if you make heavy use of neutron boosts. So 40 million from the missions is definitely not an unreasonable payout in that scale.

(Of course, if you're arguing that exploration payouts should also receive another 10x buff, fair enough)

[1] There have been requests since Colonia existed for one-way missions for people making the trip to carry with them and make a bit of extra cash. Now they're here. Don't like them? Well, they're not the min-maxed optimal cashmaker of the month, so you don't have to do them.
Sure. For those who go there anyway. But it's not high enough to interest anyone to take on these "boom data" (time sensitive delivery) just because they want to make money. Exploration data is only good the first time you do it. But if you're like you going there every day and all the time, you'll discover a diminishing return.

The underpaid Colonia is just ridiculous. You make about 100 times more just taking missions/passengers in the close vicinity.

Payouts like this should not happen, ever. It screams to me, 'something is broken.'

Payouts for passenger missions are now insulting.

I'm just over the slip-shod, reactionary, poorly-conceived development going on here. Frontier, your process is a joke, your pace is laughable, and I seriously doubt you have the development chops necessary to make Elite Dangerous a fun and worthwhile experience. Enjoy patting yourselves on the back at Frontier Expo, where you can pretend to be rockstar developers. You built your new HQ on the backs of Elite players and then shafted them with a minimum viable product once you saw stars over at Universal.

Frontier, I'm sorry but I don't think we should be together anymore. You've become a different person and you're just not good enough for me.

Honestly, I haven't seen the payout change much or at all since yesterday. At least not for me. The passenger missions I'm doing are about the same, and the board is well filled as well.

I do know that many times when they upgrade the servers, the RNG/BGS or whatever is taking some time to come back up with missions everywhere in the galaxy. Why, I don't know. But my experience is that things settle in a day or two.

This is not a settle down/come back up issue, this has been MONTHS of laughably broken and mismanaged mission balancing. The time for making excuses for this mess is long since over.

Still, I'm opening my mission board for passengers here. I have 102 available (except that my ship is full and I don't have faction rep for all of them). That's plenty.

And the payouts on them 27 mil, 5 mil, 1 mil, 2 mil, 10 mil, 4 mil, 16 mil, and then some sudden 200 k transport. So I don't have this problem with the passenger missions at all. They're plenty for me, and well paid. It's the regular missions (boom data and such) that pay near nothing (some of them pay zero, literally 0cr, "Can you do this mission for free, please sir? I'll give you some of my bromelite rocks if you do, but I can't pay you.")

I think it was more of performance issue. The board yesterday timed out quite a bit, so perhaps they were sending just a tad too many and they only reduced it a bit. At least that's what I suspect.

But surely there must be a better solution than to drastically reduce the number of missions thereby reducing player choices again? The abundant mission boards were one of the best features of 2.4 IMHO, and now it's gone already. There must be a better design solution to this than nerfs all around for everyone....

To bring some balance and add a little pepper to the salt, I recently went back to playing Overwatch after 2.4 basically broke ED on the PS4. I haven't played Overwatch since ED released on PS4 in June (that's how much I enjoy ED). Now I'm struggling with all the changes they've made to certain characters in order to "balance" the game since I last played. Sure, D.Va has (weak) missiles now, but her armor is crap. Blizzard must have swapped out the carbon fiber kevlar to fiberglass. Now I have to learn an entirely new playing style with this character, along with another favorite, Mercy, who I haven't even dared to try yet.

Long story short, Frontier is not the only one struggling to try to find a proper balance in their game. In Overwatch, I liked things the way they were, but obviously somebody didn't, thus the changes. Same here with ED. The big difference is that Frontier seems to struggle at releasing "working" updates, and I'm personally a bit salty to just how broken the current update is on my platform.

Anywho, just some thoughts.

This latest series of nerfs typifies the faults with the current design team. These nerfs are ridiculous and kill any incentive to play the game.

And before some moderator PMs me and tells me I should not say the above, as they have in the past, let me assure them that I will continue to say what many of us appear to think, even if moderators and the FD design team don't like the truth.

After all, WE are the people who have paid good money for what WAS a brilliant game and which has now been emasculated into something that is simply not worth playing.

Sure.

I can't let go of the idea of having a self-balancing mission system. Not sure how it would be done, but right now, ED missions seems to be broken.

  • Prevented planetary scan sites from spawning in the same location
  • After reviewing overall player experiences since 2.4, we've adjusted the number of missions the servers attempt to send for each board or passenger lounge
  • Reduced the ArmourPiercing value of Anti-Xeno Dumbfire Missiles from .05 to .001

Ed/Frontier

So when you log out at a planetary scan site and then log back in and it's disappeared - I assume that's simply to stop exploiting the repeat scanning etc? I'd prefer that to just be said and be nice and transparent in meaning.

Adjusted number of missions - please don't say it's back to the numbers prior to 2.4? I felt it was so much better in 2.4. I'd assume board hopping wants to be prevented - reducing the number of missions will not achieve that. A system with a few million inhabitants - you'd expect a decent number of missions surely?

The armor piercing has been reduced by a factor of 50! Wow - that sounds a bit OTT - but I've not done any anti-xeno activities yet - so what do I know :)

Yup. Balancing is probably one of the biggest challenges in MMOs today. Most other things, technology etc, are so advanced, but balancing is constant work. One day, maybe they'll start using AI to automate it?

LOL! I just go a mission update. For a "not-inconsiderable sum of money for the, er, cargo..." And how much is it? 4,449 CR. ROFL!!!! Yeah. I made 4 mil in the last hour. A MacDonald's cost about 5,000 CR in this future-inflation-infested universe, so I don't think so. Keep your pocket change! xD

Angry Customers

The lack of communication from ANY of the developeers is disturbing to
say the least.

I see the angry comments from everyone including myself, and yet we
hear nothing from anyone at Frontier's team.

I played the original from 1984 and also Frontier as well. Both games had
their issues but nothing like this. The mission payouts are an absolute joke, slave trading
is also nowhere near as profitable as it was and mining is also to put it bluntly rubbish.

This game has so much potential yet you devs seem hellbent on bashing the game to bits,
nerfing EVERYWHERE!

It's about time YOU LISTENED TO US as we PAY YOUR WAGES by buying your game.

Instead of ignoring us communciate with us and we'll be able to tell you our frustrations,
and you can tell us YOUR frustrations and we'll agree to meet in the middle.

By not communicating with us I'm pretty sure at the expo this weekend you'll have plenty of angry
people ready to yell at you, if I was going I'd be asking you why you feel you have to nerf everything,
instead of letting us play the game our way, which after all was YOUR selling point.

Your Customer Relations and Satisfaction seem to be waning badly, so take ACTION and make sure that
at least ONE developer namely ED is here to answer us and give us reassurances that these things will be fixed
and FAST.

I understand you have a tough job, but right now, if you carry this on, trust me, you will lose players
and therefore MONEY.....act now and put things back to where they were before this happens as I don't
want to see this game not have the shelf life we all want and need it to have.:mad::mad:

Got a chance to check up things in my area - most boards are showing mission stacks between 16-24, tending to lean around 16 or so. Oddballs lower and some higher occur at random it seems.

Wonder where the 8-stacks was seen? This isn't looking half bad so far, but I am still seeing the trending of most (50%-75%) of the mission boards being dominated by one type of mission.

Blaze your own trail my . They keep forgetting who is signing their checks.
