"Beyond" free for Horizon owners - LEP musings

I wouldn't say 'abysmal', but I think there are still a lot of players who didn't buy Horizons yet. We also don't know if there will be any additional (paid) features in 2018 that aren't announced yet.

I disagree, the overall value of Horizon was absolutely abysmal.

either way it would have been nice to have had some official feedback on this by now , either on stream or on forum, its not like FD must not have known it was not going to be a hot topic (TLP owners and a year 3 with no new paid content)

A sticky issue as the proposed changes for the upcoming year could be viewed as being core upgrades as opposed to new content. Would you be happy if LEP owners got a free, unique skin (or other fashion item) with each major revision until the next (content) expansion? That's the sort of achievable compromise I think you should be looking at here.

Unique skins unless they were really spectacular and recognisable ingame I think a cosmetic store credit would be useful - it costs them nothing in reality and makes those of us with LEP's feel a little more like we are getting a bit of a better deal that people who just bought retail.

In Lotro the players whom have been around since launch get a special avatar background, founder players (me) get a Title too, in Path of Exile backers also get uniques that differentiate them from the average players - not a lot, but it's a noticable marker between players, you'd be surprised how such a small thing can make a player feel appreciated especially if it denotes something no longer attainable.

Right now saying "hey lifetime backers this next expansion is on you" needs a sugar lump.

Actually it's not a hot topic at all. This seems to be the only thread about it yet and most people say they are happy that they bought the LEP...
We also know that they still want to add atmospheric planets and space legs, which will most likely be paid additions, so what do you expect them to announce apart from "there will be more paid addons"?

There will be expansion content beyond 'Beyond'. It was quite clear from presentation and chat with developers and David after that.

You can of course pressure for official word but that's clearly their intention. If I am not mistaken, that Edwards point out that core updates will not only lift the game, but also prepare it for future updates.

Also as LEP owner (not paid that much as others but hey) I would like to point out that all these new things are still beneficial to LEP owner. Core updates especially.

If they offered the LEP again, I'd get it.

But I agree, for those that crowd funded especially, they should be getting everything at 0 cost, period. It's a helluva risk to hand over hard currency based upon the "promise" of a good product. That's a leap of faith that I wasn't willing to take--here and elsewhere. I refuse to buy any car without a test drive, just because someone "says" it's good. So, those that took the risk should be rewarded for their investment and trust.

I for one just wanted to make this game happen when i backed it and got a LEP as 'thank you' from FD. I would have bought in without it, so it was a nice gesture and i dont 'demand' to get an update every year or anything. I am also confident that they will continue to build this game and make it what they envisoned back on Kickstarter.

I'm really a bit annoyed by the people just calculating 'investment' vs 'gain', although i can understand it if this was the only reason you got the pass. However, since it is 'lifetime' i am sure you save your money in the end of the day.

Also, it is not someone who promised a good product. IMO this is David Brabens child project and you can see how enthusiastic he is when he talk about it. It wont die anytime soon.

I almost regret not getting it since I've already matched that paying full price. I definitely wouldn't expect or ask for any other free stuff though. I'm also still waiting to see what the next paid content is going to be. I sort of like that I can bow out anytime without feeling bad about it. LEP would make me feel almost obligated to play everything new whether I liked it or not since I paid for it. Yea, sort of mind tricking myself on that one but at least I don't feel like I should get anymore than I already am going to get this way.

I have an LEP and I don't see how they can charge for core improvements. It basically means we will be treading water for another year but that's ok to me. I'm hyped for the trade, mining and exploration improvements. I just hope they do this game the justice it deserves.

You and me both. I'd love to not have to go to other games for the things that I'm missing from the experience. I'm hoping for something good to happen before X4 comes out so I don't have to pick it up for a while.

Agreed. I'd like a statement from FD that goes some way to reassure me that my additional payment has not been brushed under the carpet.

Mostly my frustration (such as it is) boils down to the extended timescale. I'd like to see development show some signs that it will get back on track and that my good faith in FD will be reciprocated in some meaningful way.

Get on with it please FDev, I'm waiting for atmospheric landings & maybe getting out of my seat.

I know it is very popular that Frontier is talking about moving away from the Season pass payment upgrade thing and yes "core game" upgrades should be part of the main game -- much of the newly announced stuff will be "free" for Horizons owners... but um... yeah... Some assurance or explanation from Frontier to those people [like me] who bought that damn "Lifetime pass" for a lot more money when I got Horizons, and now everything is going to be "free" for anyone who paid less than me and just bought horizons only? That.. kinda feels like I should get a refund or at least some assurance or explanation how I paid 3 times what i needed to pay to get Horizons. I am a huge fan and love all the stuff they are adding.. but... come on guys you sold us something and then changed the rules of the deal?

So you guys really think they are going to have big teams working on space legs and atmospheric worlds/flora/fauna for YEARS and not charge for those massive expansions? Geez. Take off the indignant consumer hat for a second and put on the hypothetical entrepreneur cap. Think about the bottom line.

of COURSE they will charge. Just not in 2018.

Honest question: do you feel you didnt/wont get enough for the money, or are you upset other people get it for less?

Personally, as an LEP holder, I don't care. I see it as a way in which I helped fund a game a wanted. A bit of store credit, or some fancy one-off skins, flight suits & decals wouldn't go astray, but I'm not at all bitter about it, if it brings more players to the game, I'm all for it.

Z...

I think the point is that we don't know, and would like to be reassured. The company seems to be in rude health, I'm not concerned they will go bust or do a runner, but I am concerned that from the title 'and Beyond', it appears right now that there will be no further development that will make buying the LEP seem like a good idea.

ok that is nice.. but some actual description of that or statement would be nice. Frontier HAS NOT SAID what you just said. Instead we have just had talk of "the season pass thing going away" .. and how will players who take that at face value and then find out that Fdev has decided to charge an upgrade to those without a lifetime pass and these players will complain "you said there would be no season pass but now you are charging more and calling it something else".

All we are asking is for them to clarify this crap because it is really flakey in my opinion to run things like this were the rules of what they agreed to seem to change like the wind.

Seem like a good idea or not is kind of besides the point. People are weird emotional creatures something.

Regardless of some people seeming to use the LEP as an opportunity to give more money to Frontier, it was still a purchase in good faith as having actual value, not for example spending 3 times as much for Horizons and getting the same thing as everyone else who just bought Horizons at the time who already owned the base game.

But yes, I'm assuming there will be further pay for game content that LEP holders will get included in the higher price they already paid for it.
